You on the beer tonight, PP? I've had a couple of the new Fuller's Golden Ales. Not bad. Moving on to Thornbridge Jaipur IPA next to numb the pain.

I am indeed. M & S seem to have a new range which I'm currently sampling! Definitely going to need some more to make it through the night...

Can you imagine if the Tories held Edinburgh South and Labour were wiped out in Scotland?

Strong showing for UKIP in Great Grimsby but not strong enough to suggest they can win anything other than Clacton or Thanet South at a push.

Would be hilarious if Al Murray gets more votes than Farage.

Great to see the Labour liquidation in Scotland.

For a long time their policy in Scotland was limited to reminding the electorate that they were not the Tories.

Well losing 40 odd seats in Scotland is hardly 'little', but I bow to your superior knowledge of Scottish party politics anyroad, Ellis.

To be fair, little is perhaps the wrong word. I think most scots were complacent in not predicting the shy tory effect which we are seeing in the English seats right now. People got duped by the polls to think they could elect the SNP and get a Lab/SNP coalition. But as things stand, even if all these seats were retained by labour they have still lost this election.

It's Labour's spectacular failure to win back even the easy marginal seats which has got us an even stronger Conservative dominated government for the next 5 years.

Anyone else noticing that Labour only seem to be performing as well as expected in ethnically diverse constituencies?

The perils of focusing on identity politics, I suppose. It works where it works. But you're likely to alienate people in a substantial tranche of other areas.

With the sudden influx of a large number of new SNP MPs is there a distinct possibility that we see a lot of inexperienced and incompetent people being thrown into Westminster?

Naomi Long gone from East Belfast. Feel sorry for her. She seemed a decent sort. DUP back.

Simon Hughes as well. Deary, deary me. What an appalling night for the LDs.

Would be funny if the only London seats the Lib Dems hold are the two Sutton ones, which are both among the most marginal. Looks like Carshalton & Wallington is a hold. Wouldn't be surprised if Sutton & Cheam is likewise.

That Clacton vote was a little close for comfort for Carswell. Got the win though.
