Pretty much all I think of with that kit is that it looks like a tiger came off worst in a battle with a highlighter pen (although I suppose you could say the same about their first choice kit too).

Yeah it does tbf. It’s certainly hi vis if nothing else. Back in the day we used to wear a darker green away kit, which sort of blended in with the grass and made spotting your team mate for a pass a bit of a challenge. No excuse with these kits.

Anyway Vince has said we’re accelerating the appointment process, will be interviewing applicants tomorrow, would prefer someone experienced to try and help dig us out.

Also said that if any applicants can’t make it down tomorrow, ‘they aren’t interested enough’ and that a certain section of our more negative fans ‘maybe shouldn’t come to a game because they’re not helping us’ which imo isn’t the best thing to say at this point. We need all the fans we can get.

Stroud reminds me of someone who used to follow our team but got permanently banned from our forum for racism, after earlier being given a time out and fortunately seems to have disappeared from our ranks. They could't understand why using racial stereotypes might be considered offensive...they tried to pick a fight with the moderators, who finally kicked them off...or should I say neutered them!

Big Dunc isn’t the first name that springs to mind when looking for an ‘experienced’ manager. Maybe we changed our mind as soon as he applied due to him being a big name/high profile appointment which will get more column inches, something Vince always wants.

My experience of ex-Prem players being parachuted into their first managerial roles has undoubtedly been poisoned for all time by Tony Adams - which may not be fair, since judging by subsequent roles, Adams just isn’t cut out to be a manager full stop.

And Ferguson has at least done some coaching qualifications.

But lower league football is not the same as the level he’s used to, the training facilities won’t be what he’s used to, working with more technically limited players won’t be what he’s used to.

Well he has been at Everton.....

Some might say they have been limited in their ability for a while!

But yes would be a different culture unless they have played in the lower leagues.

Also the manager would probably have a bigger ego than some of the players and greater demands/expectations as you suggest.

Didn’t expect that when Dale Vince said that he wanted somebody with experience. Ferguson has zero League 1 experience so I can’t work that out.

Terrible appointment imo but we’ll soon see. Wonder if he’ll be in the dugouts at the Meadow in 48 hours time…

I imagine Vince changed his mind once he thought he could get a 'name' in. Be funny seeing Big Dunc v Joey Barton on the touchline when we play the Gas.

Not sure this is a good appointment but he can't be worse then Burchnall.

Been a while since we've had a well known former top division player as manager.

Nigel Spink had limited success back when we had a number of ex Villa players in and around the club in the early noughties although we did get to the Trophy final (at Villa Park) whilst he was in joint charge with former team mate Dave Norton, before he took sole charge. Only lasted just over a year before he was sacked and replaced by Colin Addison.

Think our facilities and the ability of our squad will come as a shock to someone who's only worked in the Premier League.

Bit of a leftfield one but I don't think anyone of much L1 experience would be interested in the position. Then you're looking at L2 managers and will (m)any of them want to jump ship when there's a chance of being back in L2 next season?

In that respect it does leave a Ferguson kind of appointment.

Dunno what to make of this. Worried, along with some of this year's heavily bodged recruitment that we have jettisoned all practice of long-term sustainability that DV likes to talk about. Memories too of other clubs (Scunthorpe and Southend among them) that desperately overspent in the past at this level in attempts to hold on or gain glory.

On the other hand, Sol Campbell, against all the odds, and with off-pitch chaos at an extreme (we lack a CEO at the moment but I think our owner is committed and has deep pockets) , kept Macclesfield up in League Two, so maybe just maybe we'll see a repeat of that. Probably less chance of an amiable chat with Big Dunc at Stroud railway station after a game, mind.

I'm going to disagree with you . I think its a massive statement from FGR letting the rest of the clubs near the bottom that they want to stay in the 3rd Div and they're going to do everything possible to achieve their goal. At least Big Dunc must have some very good contacts.

Burchnall in one of his last interviews in the job, said things were a lot more difficult behind the scenes then he expected/was promised and Vince himself said he didn’t give him the tools for the job.

The good thing about Ferguson is I very much doubt he’ll be putting up with any shit like that, he’s definitely a strong enough character to get things the way he wants them.

One thing that struck me about Vince’s interview yesterday was that he said he had already decided to sack Burchnall when he woke up on Wednesday, before he ‘heard the result’ of the Bolton game. Seems a bit odd he wouldn’t at least have been following or be informed of the result on the night, even though he wasn’t there?

Seriously though I wish Vince would stop coming out with stuff like this, comes across as utterly deluded. Just not finishing bottom will be a tough ask, let alone survival. As for getting to the Championship, pie in the sky until we’re actually playing in the new stadium (if it ever happens).
