It seems our caretaker manager who has only managed step 8 rugby town before getting sacked - is staying for the time been. No statement from club ( again ) , but he has told the press he is in charge of dealing with the January window. So is he the new manager ? Are we looking for one ?
This happened with Dino - who announced to the press he was the manager. Nothing from the chairman.
It seems to me that our owners plan is that if the current manager goes then somebody already at the club takes over or we give it to a former manager. The only brand new one was when Rowett left and JFH stepped in which had to happen as Rowett took all his coaching team to Brum so there was nobody left. Pesh sacked, Rowett in. Rowett leave JFH steps in. JFH leaves, Nigel comes back. Nigel leaves, Bucko takes over(was still a player from memory). Bucko leaves, JFH returns. JFH leaves, Dino steps in. Dino leaves, Mills steps in. See the pattern? By my calculations that seven managerial changes since we've been a football league club and on six occasions the role has been taken up by somebody already at the club or somebody returning.
I’m getting pissed off with our owner - and I’m not alone.

Certainly sounds like Burton are appointing him by stealth. Same happened with us and Crosby. Can see one potential option in the Cowleys is now off the table as they’ve gone to Colchester.

It’s the cheap option. I should have sent my cv in might have got the gig.
Cowleys seem to be sliding backwards - once touted as the next great thing, it’s not real working for them. No disrespect to Colchester.

I have no idea whether this is true or not, as we all know how easily internet rumours are started.

But apparently Danny Cowley has been seen at several recent Wycombe games.

Even if it’s true, the prospect of him taking over at Wycombe doesn’t really enthuse me much, however we can but wait and see.

apparently they'd come to 3 of our recent games, no idea why they would have done that (obviously wasn't for the champagne football on offer) if they were going to Col U, oh well.

The Cowleys like to have a lot of control over recruitment so I reckon the number of clubs employing an old school type of management role is probably diminishing. I'm assuming they wouldn't have had full control at Wycombe?

yeah, they would. But oh well, it's not like I feel like we've missed out, they obviously did well at Lincoln, but I don't feel like they've been world beaters since.

I think location is massive for them as well at this point. Their kids are all heading into secondary school or GCSE's and Danny's daughter plays for Chelsea and England so they don't want to move around at the minute, which is understandable.

We have a new manager.
Didn’t see that one coming
Nobody could have, hope for your sake he shapes up better for you as a manager than he did for us as a player. If he doesn`t you will be looking for a replacement in March

A lot of rumours circulating on social media and our forum that there’s big news to come out from the club tomorrow. Apparently it’s Taylor and Bignot out and back comes Paul Hurst and Chris Doig.

If this is true I would be over the moon!! Hursty is by far the best manager we’ve had in my lifetime, he would get us up the table with the current group of players at his disposal.

Might all be a load of nonsense of course, we’ll soon see…

Assuming it's not happened?
No. Considering we had a supporters parliament meeting last night with the CEO and Director of Football there and no mention of it, it wasn't ever likely to happen today. Although Mickey Moore the DOF did say that performances haven't been up to scratch. Suppose failing to score in 16 of 27 league games doesn't help!

There have been rumours that Hurst has been at recent games and is patching things up with the chairman for the way he allegedly left in 2018 (supposedly clearing his desk before the play off final if the former CEO is to be believed), and the chaor.an would have had him back when Rocketts was appointed, but the CEO at the time wouldn't have it.

FWIW if Hurst did return, I can't see it being the success that some of the fan base think it would be in just picking up where he left off in 2018. We haven't got the same calibre of loanees (Dean Henderson, Ben Godfrey and Carlton Morris), and he hasn't managed at this level for a number of years.

Received a couple of messages this morning with suggestions that we may be soon looking for another manager.

Whether that means he’s gone already or been put in the last chance saloon, I’m not too sure.

Taylor sacked at Shrewsbury as well as assistant Marcus Bignot, the DOF's mate. The "search" for a new manager starts now according to the statement.

Hurst and Doig the Chairman's choice, we'll see how it turns out if it happens. I'm not totally convinced

It’s 100% Paul Hurst coming back, no doubt about it. Him and Doig will be in the dugout for the Northampton game I’m sure. This’ll be the boost the club needs!

According to an ITK on our forum our chairman has two options.

1) Keep Moore as DOF and appoint Duff.

2) Sack Moore and appoint Hurst and Doig.

Fuck this Cheltenham experiment off, it’s truly horrendous and doesn’t work. The majority want Hursty, the chairman does too so can’t see anything but a return for Hurst & Doig. Hopefully the good times are coming back, we shall see.

There are two chances of Michael Duff becoming Shrewsbury manager this season.

None and zilch.

I hope you’re right! Really want Moore out of the club and a Paul Hurst return. This group of players are massively under performing and Hurst & Doig would certainly get us up the table. We must go with what we know as relegation would be terrible for us at this moment in time.

I have it on good authority that he has no interest in working before the summer - though obviously if the right job came up I'm sure he wouldn't turn it down.

That being said, Shrewsbury wouldn't be the right sort of job.

Seems the cat is out the bag and he’s gone. Rumours gathering pace in the last hour or so.

Our fans are falling over themselves to demand the appointment of Duff.

Just like that, it now sounds as if the club are saying rumours are untrue.

Sunday ruined.

Not sure how many more games of Appleton ball I have left in me.

Hopefully just a case of them sticking to the company line until an official announcement is made.

No real surprise about Shrewsbury. Odd appointment. In spite of what Floreat says, from the outside many people picked Shrewsbury to struggle, so I never thought they were going to be bursting into the top 6, but ultimately the run of results they have been on is enough for any manager.

Ironically, one of their few wins was against us but even then it was as poor a Shrewsbury team as I can recall playing for a good few years. They're often very strong at home.

Somebody on our forum has suggested Shrewsbury would do well in recent seasons. He has also suggested MK Dons would go great and they got relegated. He has also said similar about Charlton this January so be very scared Charlton fans. :bg:
