A few itks and the bookies seem to be suggesting Nathan Jones is close. I would be hugely impressed if true but knowing our luck it would be Stoke Nathan Jones.

Given I imagine he will be on decent wages, makes me wonder why we ever settled for Appleton in the first place if they could afford Jones.

Point of order but I fully approved of the Stoke Nathan Jones

Be a potentially excellent appointment, does need something you’d think would get the fans onside.

Our fans really appreciate that Charlton connection which Jones has so would be on board.

That being said we've just had a manager meltdown and clash with the fans which is exactly what Jones did at Southampton despite not actually doing that bad. Think our fans would be more patient with him though as they seemed to decide at the outset they didn't want him.

There's also the concern he left Luton twice when a better offer came in and a good brief spell at us and you can imagine a champ club could come knocking.

But all in all would be a good statement of intent, time to see if it comes true

Hurst is a good manager, he won't win titles but he puts together solid sides. Anyone who attributes our relegation to Hurst is completely wrong.

He got this season badly wrong and in the end rightly deserved to go, but he's been our most and only :ffs: successful manager twice in the last 20 years and wish him all the best.

If that corner flag photo isn’t being dusted off by first thing in the morning it’s a derogation of duty. Frankly Flitcroft can fuck off too. There are not many other clubs where this would have been tolerated for so long.

We know what will happen he will cling on, we will beat Orient Tuesday 1-0 and he will survive and the whole thing goes around again.

Frankly he should go yes, if you don’t have any goal scorers then at least set up to be hard to beat, but he has been totally screwed over by above, he is having to play kids to try and turn matches around who aren’t ready, has a load of crocks and “nice guys” and we are getting everything we deserve for 12 months of pure sleepwalking.

We’ve essentially turned into Crewe Alexandra, loads of investment in the kids etc but with a system that goes through cycles of awfulness and then promotions and on and on but with how it is now but unlike down the A500 our fans won’t accept that.

Fair play that’s a brilliant appointment by Charlton. With those players at his disposal should turn it around in good order. At least with the January window and this appointment Charlton are trying to get back on track.

Now if only our owner wasn’t content to just sit on her hands and make a fucking change… Obviously am pissing into the wind hoping for that to happen

I’m very surprised he’s taking the job on given if things don’t start well he could have a league one relegation on his CV but I don’t think we could possibly have got a better manager in. Looking forward to with a huge heap of concern

Really not sure how he will go at Charlton to be honest. Really hope he does well but I think the key thing that we had here that he didnt/hasn’t had anywhere else he has been was a stable base for him to build off.

When he first came in we had everything pulling in the right direction behind the scenes as John Still had done a lot of the hard yards there in terms of giving the club a positive ethos off the field. The football could have done with improvement but everyone loved Still and there was no animosity going on off field. It just needed a younger manager to come in and look to modernise some of our approach, especially when it came to things like recruitment, bringing sport science to the fore and giving us something more modern tactically. Jones did that brilliantly and those combined foundations layed by Still and Jones have carried us through really well.

Charlton from what I can see are a bit of a mess behind the scenes and everyone knows Nathan can be when under pressure very erratic, very emotional sort of person. He could very easily add fuel to the fire if things spiral off the field.

Really hope he does well, we owe him a great debt of gratitude and I think he was a bit unfairly ridiculed at Southampton. Dont believe anything about his “style” of football, he managed to evolve the team tactically in a number of ways, in Leafue 2 and 1 we were superb passing team who controlled teams, when he came back he shored us up defensively and stabilised us at that level and then he implemented a heavy pressing direct style to get us up into the playoffs. He doesn’t have a style but will try and fit to his resources

Vale fans on the piss tonight?

Wait and see what they do to replace him. I swear to god if they just promote from within in again I’ll probably end up doing what that dude who chased the ref last week did and happily take the ban.

Shame for Crosby but he’s had well over half a season and think it was 2 wins in 20. Nice bloke, good coach not a manager.

Had to happen, top top bloke but wildly out his depth.

Firstly though we should thank him for his leadership and management of us during the promotion season, he almost had us up automatically and the wild run we went on with 7 wins and a draw in 8 was imperative in very difficult circumstances following the tragedy that DC suffered.

He genuinely seemed to care and is a great bloke but he is a fantastic coach just not a manager.

I’m furious that when it was obvious he should go after the Cheltenham debacle we stuck with him, then through the window, to hold on so long has likely killed us.

What we can’t afford now however is to take weeks over an appointment like usual. Have a target and get them in quickly whilst we have the games to turn it around.

We don’t have the players to play his style. Would be a disaster.

I think we know where the majority of fans will want us to go with this…

We don’t have the players to play the one they want to play either.

The cynic in me is curious why they’ve waited until a couple of days after the window closing but they need to get this right.

Someone on Radio Stoke has just suggested Troy Deeney. This fan base FML :hb:

Sorts us a striker that we need!

Wouldn’t shock me if they go back to DC, fans will be calling for it largely and they know they are losing the fan base so can see them trying to appease with that appointment.

Tough job for anyone I reckon, we just don`t have enough of our players available. I think Crosby has been unlucky and the mad schedule leading up to Xmas and New Year has cost us too many injuries. Last week`s failures to address our shortages in the transfer window has exascerbated the problem but is that his fault or Billy Bullshit`s?
Didn`t mind the style of football too much, it is how the game is going but he was never popular with many fans.

Some of our fans wanted him before we appointed Sadler he did actually get down to the final 3 in the interviews he's said that himself you cant do what he does with modern players unfortunately can't see anyone taking him on now

Think that spell at FGR has ruled him out of any role for a while. Unfortunately the game has moved on from that style, even DC is probably pushing the boundaries nowadays. That said speaking as a fan there've often been times this season where I've wished we had that Orient manager John Sitton from that documentary in the 90's where he offerred half the team out at half time, Saturday being one such occasion.

A proportion of our fans want Steve Evans! Never thought I’d hear that.

Peter Wild seems to be the one most are calling for though.

Expect it will be an out of work manager but we did pay for DC and they have to get this right so you never know.

Just gutted for Crosby, really wanted it to work, he’s had a lot go against him but hopefully we can remember that magical 2022 season and his huge part in that. Unless we go back for DC the AC/DC era is over. It’s been a ride from that mess we made of the 2020/21 which saw them come in to save us dropping out the EFL that season to now!

They won't have Clarke back. He didn't just leave for football reasons. Wilde is a good shout....even though Barrow are doing well, surely we're a club with more potential?

Our February fixtures were looking ok, and now look tricky.

Burton - new manager
Fleetwood - relatively new manager
Charlton - new manager
Exeter - please don't sack your manager
Port Vale - new manager by then
Shrewsbury - new manager

He didn't but he should of been told to take time maybe from Feb onwards and had Crosby as interim until he had taken that real break.
