Is this the way to (Amarillo) relegation?

I bet Leicester fans and hell even West Ham fans are glad their clubs aren't content with being lower league teams. If Leicester can do what they're doing why not others? It wasn't that long ago Leicester were in the League One.

Correct

Preston kept together the majority f their League one squad I believe what we didn't, that squad last season would have kept us up imo.

Bolton will want to bounce back but they would see themselves traditionally as a bigger club (prem/champ club) as it's the only place I've ever seen them play.

We are a league one club, of course we would have ambitions as a club to bounce back but doesn't mean id be over the moon to get promoted.

Contradiction much?

You want to be in League One to win games but don't want to be promoted? These two things usually go hand in hand in football.

Apart from some good away days I am fucking devastated to be in League One next year and knowing we won't be back for some time and what it means for the club.

I truly and honestly do not get your thought process, perhaps because you are younger it's easier to have that mindset but not for me, I've seen my side compete with the best this country has to offer, I've seen us beat Manchester United on numerous occasions, turn Arsenal over time and again, win at Anfield, beat Spurs, humiliate Chelsea and I want to get back to that, as dreamworld as it sounds.

I've endured 16 god awful years outside the top flight with my club and seen the likes of Stoke, West Brom, Reading and even fucking Wigan establish themselves in there, with all due respect to those clubs they're nowhere near the size of us, or Leeds etc I want to stick two fingers up to all the bastards to fans of clubs ranging Rushden and Diamonds to Port Vale who told us "you're not famous anymore" I want to say fuck you to 9 midweek fixtures a season and I want to enjoy my prawn sarnie.

If you don't want to compete you may as well pack up and let a rugby team migrate to Stadium MK
That's the difference between us Walkley. You've seen your team compete at the top against the best, you've gut the taste for it and desperately want it back.

I've only ever known league 2 and 1, so it doesn't affect me playing the top teams in the top leagues as we've never done it anyway. I've had a little taste and I don't like it.

It's not a contradiction, I want to win games but I think we'll finish 8th. We'll still win quite a few times to finish there.

So if you're in and around the play-offs towards the end of the season you would want to see your team lose so you miss out?

Or if you were in the play-off final, you would be supporting the opposition?

Sorry, don't buy it.

promotion seasons are quality, like last season but mean fuck all of you have a season like the one we've had. As I've said a million times in this thread already we aren't ready to be a championship club yet and need to sort out all the off field shit first.

There are literally no benefits of going back to League One, if you want the club to grow off the field then you're better off doing it with the extra £4-5m you get in the Championship.

It may be better from a financial standpoint but not an enjoyment one.

We have the money for the training ground it just needs to be allowed and built.

And what's the whole point of football? Entertainment. I don't get that in this league, I know I certainly do in league 1.

What a load of bollocks that's been spouted on here by MK Dons fans.

Talking about money and training facilities etc...

We train at a golf course and on the pitches of an amateur side, the players get changed in porter cabins.

Talking about money and recruitment? Our record transfer fee is 400k that we spent on Jordan Bowery in this division last season. Our team is made up of players we had in league two, misfits, frees, loans and older players without clubs desperate to play.

We go to show Training facilities and lack of money spent on players aren't valid reasons to explain relegation.

As for wanting to be in league one or two, for all that I highlighted earlier, it makes the run we're on feel even sweeter, a team written off with unfashionable players going 8 unbeaten in one of the biggest and most exciting leagues in the world (after PL, La liga and Bundesliga).

Give me a scrappy 1-0 won over Middlesbrough or Wednesday or even a 3-3 draw with Derby over a 2-0 win on a Tuesday night against Colchester or Oldham.

The standard is getting worse and worse year upon year as well. In my lifetime we've only really had a couple of years where we've genuinely challenged in this division - I can't bare another season down there watching the likes of Fleetwood (no disrespect) bring less than 100 fans to ours on a Saturday. It's painful, I don't think the PL is the be all and end all but I'd kill to get there; even if it's just for the benefits the club would reap from it.

FWIW, I do kind of see where BCS is coming from. They're a club in transition off the pitch and aren't quite ready to compete at this level, so it's hard to see where he's coming from in comparison with the clubs you all support.

As he said, once they're stable off the pitch and have everything sorted they'll be in a position to be competitive in this league, there isn't really much objective to them just surviving in this league and spending over the odds for it - it could possibly turn away fans as well in contrast to being in L1 every week winning every other game. Munkiki said that if Norwich stay in the PL he may not renew, but if they come down he will. That's the same thing - the enjoyment of being better in a lower position.

Personally, I wouldn't want that for our club as we're well suited to this level now - on and off the pitch, but I can sort of see what BCS means.

I understand his point too just don't agree with it. Seemingly, that appears to be the consensus with all respect to BCS.

I don't get either of their points especially the Norwich fans. He's basically saying he'll renew season ticket to watch Norwich against Burton or Gillingham but not to watch the worlds best. Fucking mind blowing.

I hope Mkat fans enjoy their brand spanking new training ground whilst enjoying the delights of Accrington away. We'll ask em if it feels worth it then.

Btw Tony Stewart has been harping on about getting a new training ground for us since building NYS. He's now decided it's more sensible to try and establish ourselves in this division before looking at that. Take note Winkleman.

We're after a new training ground, ours doesn't seem fit for purpose.

Perhaps the creepy child catcher should have thought about the training ground long ago.

Like he's said though - it's nothing they're not used too. MK have part of the infrastructure, they're not going to compete at this level currently. I've no doubt MK will be back in years to come.

Meanwhile - from a personal point of view for BCS, there's probably an objective of MK being in L1, they can play attractive football and teams they'll beat most weeks, and even with the squad they have now they'd be near the top of that shit-shack of a division.

Yeah but that's a load of bollocks in reality int it? Not one person would say we've got the 'infasticture' and we're competing (would have all season without Redfearn).

It actually comes down to fact that MK Dons fans have spent their history with ££ and being the big fish in a small pond (finance wise). They'll never ever be that in the championship. The type of fans who support them supported Man United before they were formed, they'd sooner watch their team score goals and win than try to compete as high as possible.

Yeah, and you were competitive because you appointed the most successful manager ever in this division. Very wise appointment. In reality though, are you ever going to be able to do anything more than just survive in this division with your current financial situation?

I go to watch Norwich not the opposition. The Prem is shit. I can see why the money men at clubs (and players) want to be there but as a fan, the appeal is limited. From my perspective anyway. Yours is going to be different. You've never seen Rotherham in the top flight, of course it appeals to you. You'd be seeing your team regularly playing the country's best in league games for the first time. The novelty wears off. Watching us play Burton, a team we've never played, would be more appealing than watching us play "the worlds best" for the 100th time. It's one of the reasons I enjoyed our foray into the third tier (I'd imagine if we had stayed down, my opinion would've changed rather quickly - the fickle nature of football fans...)

Plus the atmosphere is shit at most grounds. It also brings out the worst in fans (they act like relegation is the end of the world, want you to sack the manager every week you don't win, seem to think they've a divine right to be in the top flight, etc) Although, I guess that's been seeping into football at every level for years so we're probably starting to get to the point where that's no different. Maybe it's just football fans I don't like rather than the level we're playing at.

But to be honest, when saying stuff like not renewing, I'm obviously talking out of my arse. Of course I'm going to renew my season ticket whatever happens (it auto-renews every year anyway, so I'd have to go out of my way to cancel). I'd go to watch Norwich whether we're beating United 2-1 at Old Trafford or losing 7-1 at Carrow Road to Colchester. The only things that would actually cause me to cancel my season ticket are financial problems (unlikely), starting a family (unlikely) or mind-numbingly boring football (ie had Hughton stayed).

I understand where BCS is coming from, regarding the entertainment aspect. I paid £512 to watch us win 3/19 home games vs Wigan, Fulham and Sunderland in the PL a few years ago.

In contrast, I paid £320 to watch us win about 18/23 home games in League 1. From an entertainment perspective the League 1 season was much more fun to watch than the Prem season (cheaper too).

However I wouldn't like to go back down there. The aspiration of every club is surely to be the best you can be, just look at Leicester showing us that it is possible for any team really.

Another one on the 'can understand where he's coming from but don't agree with it' brigade

One thing I'll add: eventually finishing 8th every season becomes just as tedious as being in a constant relegation battle. Yeah you're winning more games but winning starts to lose any sense of value. You're better than these teams, you know you're better than these teams because you're beating them year in year out and yet you're continually unable to progress beyond them, and will keep on playing them year in year out.

Looking at MK, they've had relative success since they were formed and I'm wondering if this year of struggle is a reality check for what is a fairly new club?
Without opening the MK / Wimbledon debate, I am wondering if the fact that supporting a club means good years and painful years has been over looked a bit?
For me, as a youngster, my team were top flight, wonderful, yet 7 years later we were bottom of division 4! Still my club when times get hard just as it is when things are good.

Quite possibly yeah.

I don't buy into those have the most money and spent the most prosper.

Look at Fulham, we'll finish above them and they've probably spent more this season than we have in our history.

It's not like L1 though mate - there's only a handful of teams in that league that spent and we were one of them - there's less chance of teams in that division getting it right. Like you said, Fulham have spent and so have Sheffield United in L1. In this league, the odds say that with the amount of teams that have money to spunk at least a few of them will get it right.

MK will get relegated, we will clinch the playoffs, their attendances will drop ours will increase, we will relegate them next season, and they will disappear into financial oblivion. It is written in the stars.

For us though, our sole aim is to establish ourselves in this diviion eventually being a regular mid table side, we don't need to spend millions doing that, there's enough teams in this divison year on year who spunk millions and just survive.

We will establish ourselves in this league, at the moment though that won't happen until we can attract the right players to the club without having to bankrupt us in the process, and with Robbo secure in his job for life basically we can't get a manager that attracts the best players like Mowbary is doing at Cov for example, all we will get is the young cast offs from the premier league or top championship clubs if we stay in this league, we will never finish anywhere higher than 22nd like this.

The whole point I was trying to make at least is its a lot better being in the championship when there's a hope in hell of staying up and competing, when you know you're going to go down it's nice to go to all the new grounds, but the whole season is just depressing us especially when it's clear that the players we have can't play the type of football they need to, and are making too many mistakes which is sending us down. I think as a club we need a season or 2 back down there while we rebuild knowing what we need to do to survive, and hopefully soon we can finally break ground on the training complex, that way I genuinely believe we will get back here and stay here but to help entice some of the better players we want we need progress on that.

Oh and SERNWA you only stayed up because of Warnock, he'll inevitably leave in some way or another midway through next season and you'll be relegated anyway.

Our players have been there all along, Warnock AND Blackwell have brought the best out of em.

Warnock may stay on, he hinted at it the other week and was in the frame when Redfearn got appointed but decided against it due to his wifes health (that came out other day in car on way to Bristol). If he doesn't Blackwell will get the job and we'll carry on as we have been doing, we won't go down next year, I'm confident in saying that (as I was this year) due to the calibre of teams coming up.
