Still only 24, feels like he's been around forever. Compared to Donaldson who is 31...

It sounds like you got the best out of him this season... but that was certainly the case when he played for us. Flashes of brilliance, when he decided to put a shift in - just didn't happen anywhere near often enough.

Perhaps he's got his head screwed on a little tighter now.

Didn't you play him on the right wing though? As I said, he needs to be given the licence to roam to see the best of him.

In terms of having his head screwed on tighter. While that may be the case, he appeared notably leaner this season, which will no doubt have helped him get about a bit more

Remember him from his youth team days, thought he would play for the first team when he was younger, but he always seemed to lack discipline and relied on the work rate of other players to score goals. He could play anywhere though, saw him play at CB at Boreham Wood and he was unreal.

While he wasn't offered a contract we don't know what has happened in negotiations, Lansdown had said there would be no sentimentality with players, for all we know JET COULD have wanted a big wage increase for sticking around.

You can never guarantee he'll turn up, and hes not going to be one to defend from the front..but on ability alone an absolute genius.

Most enjoyable player we've had at AG (maybe with the exception of Scott Murray) in my lifetime.

I'm not gutted because I think we'd do better with him, I don't. I'm gutted because we all fundamentally go to watch our teams to be entertained. JET does things others don't attempt, he's an entertainer. I could drill down to the stats and the numbers which may tell me were better off without him. But I don't care. I've almost laughed as much as cheered at some of the goals he's scored and the tricks he tries. That's why I'll miss him.

Obviously Bristol City fans will know more than me, well, not obviously, but probably; but it's clear that JET has ability and is potentially a very good player, it would worry me that the manager doesn't know what to do to get the best out of him, unless it's simply down to wages.

He does know how to get the best out of him. He just prefers Agard who, although a workhorse, doesn't have half the ability of JET. It is strange, JET performed brilliantly whilst Agard was out injured, but as soon as Agard was fit he found himself straight back in the starting XI

And yet we strangely kept winning, what is it 14 or 15 for Agard? With a spell out on the sidelines, hardly poor and fits our team style of play better.

I'd trust that our manager knew what he was doing, especially if he just won us the league and JPT.

Na we should sack the dingle c*** ;)

To be fair I have complete faith in Cotterill to bring in good players this summer. I just have a feeling JET will come back to haunt us.

Gutted. I'll have to change my avatar now :( Actually, on second thoughts, I'm keeping it as a tribute.

JET was easily the most talented and skillful footballer I've ever seen in a City shirt. He could do things with the ball that defied belief, and beat a man with such consummate ease it's ridiculous. Incredible striker of the ball as well, just look at his 2nd against Walsall, and that goal against the gas will live with me until the day I die.

I can understand why the decision's been made though, and it must have been a very difficult one. Rightly or wrongly Cotterill clearly doesn't feel he suits the way he wants us to play, and if he hasn't been starting in L1 he's not going to in the championship. I think some of the reactions on here are over the top, we've had one of our most successful ever seasons with him as a bit-part player - we'll cope without him. And I'd imagine this means we'll be looking to sign another 2 forwards in the summer.

But it's still a sad day to see such a fantastic entertainer above all else leave the club. I wish him all the best, he's been a model professional throughout his time here. Though for selfish reasons I hope he doesn't go to another Championship club. He's one player above all others I'd be terrified to see line up against us, because if he's on it he would tear us apart and there's nothing we could do about it.

Cotterill has got this one wrong. I don't care what he's achieved, he has got praise for that already, doesn't need to get brought up whenever someone disagrees with him.

JET wasn't utilised enough and I have no idea who can replace him and do a better job, either on a free or we're needlessly wasting money.

Gutted, tbh. It's not the end of the world because we have a great squad but I just loved watching JET play. Best of luck to him wherever he ends up going.

So 99 points, the league title, the jpt a HUGE goal difference aren't enough with the amount JET played?

You just did what I said was annoying, in the first part of my post. He isn't immune from criticism. You reckon we wouldn't have done better without JET in over Agard? We certainly wouldn't have done worse. This isn't knee-jerk, I've been saying it all season. Cotterill gets it wrong here.

I don't know, but I'm willing to give Cotterill the summer to see who he brings in before bitching about JET leaving like many City fans appear to be doing. Dawe has given an interview saying money will be made available for a new #1 striker, probably JET's wages are going into that.

He couldn't do this against Championship defenders. Found his level.

He was about 21 when you let him go. Same age as Joe Bryan who has only just found his feet this season and is now admired by many clubs.

I've read this thread in it's entirety with interest and I guess I'm in the minority as I'm not devastated that JET has left. Yes it is sad but for everyone eulogizing his performances for every Walsall there is a Colchester away where he was a waste of a shirt.

Lets look at the facts City had the best defence in League 1 and this was down to the pressing of the opposition defenders by Agard and Wilbraham. They harried and forced mistakes which allow us to gain the ball high up the field. When JET plays this doesn't happen.

For all of his skill he needs to settle into a team role. This was the same reason Dariusz Dzienkanowski initially failed with us.

You can't possibly say that. Yes JET's superior in many departments but that doesn't mean we'd function better as a team. Him and Agard are two completely different types of player.

And Cotterill's not immune to criticism, but you can't argue our performance this season doesn't vindicate his decision, whether you agree with it or not

And my guess is our target will be Matt Smith who wouldn't have done anywhere near as well if he wasn't partnered with JET. I genuinely think we've just released our best striker. As others have said, certainly put a dampener on things. I'm not saying it's ruined the season or anything over the top like that, but it's certainly damaged it.

As Ciderhead said, you can't know Smith wouldn't have done as well if partnered with someone else, think Wilbs could have had a good partnership with him.

Was the team made worse when JET played? No. I'd argue that we even played far better and he should have been used much more.
