Will be an interesting season.

I'd be curious to compare United fans and their opinions at the time at the prospect of Mourinho taking over from Ferguson and him getting the job now. One suspects there is a big difference with a large amount of them. And you can't blame them for the u-turn after three seasons of shit football.

I've maintained my fondness of him throughout since this place began. Look it up:hypo:

Not to knock the defensiveness of certain United fans, but I was referring to the fanbase as a whole rather than just those on TFF/1FF. ;)

Different ballgame when they join your club. I imagine the bulk of Liverpool fans thought Suarez was a turd before he joined, and look at the extent of support he got.

I doubt anyone thought Suarez was "turd", Liverpool fans or not. Whether they thought it was a sensible buy given that he had already had enamel based issues even that early is another matter.

Everyone thought he was a steaming turd. A despicable cheat at the heart of one of the most infamous incidents in World Cup history. Nothing like scouse revisionism when caught in hypocrisy.

I wonder if Jose will change his outlook on signings etc. now he has finally got the Utd job, whether he will actually look to promote youth more & play more expansive attacking football or if it's all a bit of Mendes PR.

For those first two years though I doubt Utd fans will care too much, Mourinho can instill some dire negative football but it surely can't be as insipid as the stale dross that Van Gaal has been serving up?

I do also wonder if my housemate will still receive flyers & letters begging him to buy tickets for United games after he had to sign up to their site for socceraid tickets...

The overreaction about the World Cup incident was hilarious, I'd hope any England player would do that (and said as much on tff).

I thought he'd never be a goal scorer and should have been deployed out wide. Allouso and MBR agreed...

But playing by Pagnell's rules, plenty of Liverpool fans would have called him every despicable name going after that. I'm sure the evidence would back me up, hence his timid response.

Football fans are generally tribalist fickle hypocrites, let's be honest, and often don't like getting called out on it (and I fully include myself in that). It is amusing to look back on though.

Kinda serious point there though about United sending stuff out to try to attract fans in, that hadn't happened much/at all even under Moyes apart from cup games iirc, so I assumed the dourness of LVG had driven some away and I think that was as much a signal that he was off as anything. I'm sure they'll return, no matter the well-known nature of his football, a name like Mourinho will always excite a fanbase and fans will always watch winners.

A league with Mourinho, Klopp, Guardiola & Conte in at teams who didn't even finish in the top 3, seems like it can only be a wide-open exciting season on paper. Going to be great when it massively disappoints us all.

If you think back to how rattled Mourinho got people when he was Chelsea manager, just think how much the guy is going to wind up people as Manchester United manager. He'll go after Liverpool as always he senses their insecurity.

As for the City fans it isn't inconceivable that they all could just blow up and pop like the balloons they are. It could get nasty this you know.

Agreed, which is why I contested the stupidity of it. Pags tried to deny parity.

I've been bombarded with offers from United over the past few months. I get a text or a letter every few days. It's clear they were worried about losing money and bringing Mourinho in was a surefire way to remedy that.

Can't wait!

Did you see the (insert number of) City fans reacting this front page...

...on Twitter? A few of them called it a "rag paper" and demanded to know why Pep didn't receive the same treatment when the news broke of him joining City...

Growing up in Stockport and still living in Cheshire, I interact with them on a day-to-day basis. At best, they're mentally unstable, this week I'm actually worried for them. Their faces are getting redder and more angry. They are now blaming their red faces as being "rags" due to the colour. Like they time they complained to Asda near the Etihad because they had their Santa Claus collecting money dressed in red...

The divs, the bitters, The Gormless Goons, you name it..

José Mourinho has blamed the delay in announcing his appointment on the referee, an FA conspiracy, the club doctor and senior players.

City or United fans, it doesn't matter. The MEN is going to be absolutely unbearable for the foreseeable future.

That response says it all.

Indeed it does which was my point. But I admire your honesty.

On a serious note your point is ridiculous. No one thought Suarez was shit so the comparison is moot. There are numerous other examples you could have used instead that would have made far more sense.

Also, please sign Willian.

I've got a direct line to the bug guy, he's relayed my message to Ed.

Mourinho signed Willian for Chelsea in August 2013 for a fee of around £30m, and if he is to prise the 27-year-old from Stamford Bridge would cost at least £50m, the player having two years left on his contract.

The Brazilian is open to the transfer and Mourinho discussed his signing with Woodward earlier in the week in London, ahead of finalising his own terms as United manager. Willian could expect to command a base rate of at least £120,000-a-week at Old Trafford. He was one of the few success at Chelsea last term in the west London club’s dire title defence.

This could be wonderful.

P.S. Suarez did the right thing against Ghana, I'm having none of that. Best moment of that torrid World Cup.

My point is ridiculous but you conclude that there are numerous examples that back up my claim. Well thought out that, mate. Unlike you to create a srawman in an attempt to save face.

Actually, there are important differences between the two front pages which clearly indicate a dig at City:
- Whereas Mourinho's face covers the whole front page exhibiting an expression of a man who is calm and in full control, Pep is shoved off to the side. He even looks like he's having a bit of a pray, as if he's going to need the assistance of the Almighty to have any success.
- The Mourinho story is right at the front of the paper on pages two and three. The Pep story is shoved all the way back in pages four and five.
- On the Pep front page they have stuck a picture of cold-blooded killer and all-round gobshite David Platt from Corrie, inviting the reader to subconsciously make connections between the moral character of the two.
- The date on the Mourinho front page is 27 May 2016, whereas on the Pep front page it is 2 February 2016, suggesting the latter is old news that no one gives a stuff about now.

So clearly a rag paper. Which is no surprise given I hear the MEN editor and Fred the Red are good mates and attend the same zumba class.
