When was that proved? When Jose beat him to La Liga, breaking Barca's utter dominance of that division? Around then by any chance?
6 La Liga's in 8 years suggests Barca are still dominant; also that year the players let their foot off the pedal and Benzema was sensational for Madrid, that covered up the cracks that were to split wide open the following year.

Sadly that video got me a little excited. "Bad times don't last, but bad guys do"

Part of me doesn't want this to happen now just to witness the fallout.

If United appoint Mourinho, then all that's left to say is congratulations on winning the premier league.

oh and goodbye Mata.

The thing is, we all know that Mourinho won't be their manager in 4 years time. The guy simply doesn't do long term. So what they have done here is accept they're going to be in a similar position to what they were when Rudolph left but put themselves in a good position in the mean time to get back up there and maybe even put in some title challenges. They've basically given up on this long term plan thing they spouted when they appointed Moyes.

I think this is a misunderstood aspect of Mourinho. He left Porto to go to Chelsea to establish himself as an elite manager. He was undermined at Chelsea by Abramovich and promptly left to join Inter. He managed to squeeze a miracle treble out of an ageing team and left because there was no money to replace all the players that needed replacing. He then joins the joke that is Real Madrid. He gets them a league title, competing against one of the greatest teams there has ever been, in Barcelona. Though alas he's undermined by some of their Galacticos and parts company with them. Back to Chelsea (a familiar story) and now onto Manchester United.

Manchester United demand Champion's League Football. Mourinho will do that. In fact he'll do better and bring them the title. He'll have control over purchases and have vast amounts to spend. A culture of a player going to an owner, about the manager, doesn't exist at Old Trafford. The owners won't undermine him and the success he brings.

In short Mourinho will feel at home in Manchester. There's a reason why he's been campaigning for the job for so long and I believe this is it.

You've basically found convenient excuses for all his previous movements. But the bottom line is that he's had four managerial posts since he left Porto in 2004 and not stayed more than 3 years in any of them. And I don't see that trend being broken at United, or at least not by more than a year or two. Perhaps the stated 4 years was going a little too far, but I'd be willing to bet money he won't be United in 5 years time.

But why should anyone expect any more than that? Comparisons with the likes of Ferguson and Wenger are ridiculous, they're very much the exception to the rule. The truth is that a handful of years is a good length of time for any manager at any club these days, with occasionally a little extra like with Klopp at Dortmund.

Stockport County.
Ancelotti was also sacked from Chelsea and Real Madrid. Two clubs very quick to pull the trigger. Both similar circumstances for Mourinho and Ancelotti, reported on much differently.

It's a strange situation we all find ourselves in here as apparently Pep going to Man City all but assured them of the league next season. Now Mourinho is all but assured of firing Man Utd to the title. If Simeone were to get a job here as well I think the universe would implode!

Are you sure this appointment isn't playing on your minds, boys? You seem to have an awful lot to say about it.

Mourinho's career span:
Season 1 - Buy the bus
Season 2 - Park the bus
Season 3 - Throw the players under the bus

No doubt he will win a trophy or two though :D

Will be an interesting season.

I'd be curious to compare United fans and their opinions at the time at the prospect of Mourinho taking over from Ferguson and him getting the job now. One suspects there is a big difference with a large amount of them. And you can't blame them for the u-turn after three seasons of shit football.

Well yeah, a lot of Utd fans were taking the piss out of him because he wanted the job and they wouldn't lower dem standards. They're not like other clubs.

I was certain that Mourinho was taking over from Fergie at the time and said something to the effect of "taking over from a manager of Fergie's calibre will appeal directly to Jose's massive ego" on tff. I really wanted it to happen too. But, you know...
