2518 (96 away) at Home Park last night. Drew 1-1 with Bristol Rovers and then beat them on pens. Played ok apparently and no injuries. We made a good number of changes and a 16 year old came on. I was down the local having a few pints instead.

8 for Grimsby, 10 for Orient. That's to name but a few. Just a shame the crowds continue to hover around the high three digit mark. Had hoped for a greater loss of interest across the board.

10 changes for us too. But yeah I think the crowds are starting to climb again which is a disappointment, not the same effect 3 years on, people are starting to think the format won't change despite a boycott so may as well go. Plus the fixing of draws to make it local derbies is working for the EFL.

That's the problem in this country, too much apathy. People moan about fans getting more of a voice but ultimately not enough people are arsed enough to see anything through, so the EFL etc continue taking the piss.

The annoying thing about this is that if they would just get rid of the U21/23s but keep this current format of fixing the groups to have local games it would then be a pretty decent competition with quite a bit of interest in it.

Yeah the concept is ok, don't even mind pens if you draw that's quite entertaining. Just get rid of the u21/23's bollocks.

The only reason this idea even happened was because the big clubs stockpile all the talent for no reason. I would ban all Prem clubs from having academies, they don't need them. Let smaller clubs develop young players and get decent fees for them when they're ready to step up to the Prem and actually be involved in first team football there. The FA could then quadruple the funding for lower league academies to make sure the young English lads are getting quality coaching.

I've always quite liked the competition up until the u21 teams entered. I like the current format of local games in groups. If we could say swap the u21s for some national League sides, that would get a big thumbs up from me. I'm pretty sure they used to allow a few non league teams on. We beat Doncaster 8-0 one year, and I'm sure they were non league at the time.

I would like the National League sides to replace them or maybe Italian clubs or something.

Another vote for putting National sides instead of the Under 21/23 sides. Perhaps keep the regional aspect of the group games, have 2 league sides and 2 non-league sides in each group.

National league sides were allowed in it for a brief period a while back. We qualified for it once in 02/03 when it was the LDV Vans Trophy and were drawn away at Brighton who were top of league 1, so we didn't last long. Enjoyed being involved though, gave teams something to play for cos it was only the top 10 that qualified.

No, you can count Prem/category 1 academy loanees regardless of if they started the last game and I think players that have played 40 games in total?

Shit competition anyway, quite pleased a load of our kids and stiffs got game time though.

Yeah, I remember Crawley losing to away at Gillingham. You had to finish in the top half of the Conference (as was) to qualify.

Lost 0-1 at Pompey last night. Last time we played a league game there we took 250ish it was 92 last night. 3400 total fans.

New signing Sendles-White played the whole game and our other two centre halfs played forty five each. Young had his first game since the opening day and Nadesan had a run out recovering from injury.

Are we out yet?

At least a win gives you £20k I think.

We also gave 2 17 year old academy lads their debuts, so that was a positive. Seems a lot of clubs use this to give their youngsters a chance although pretty stupid that you get fined if you play too many, despite being up against an u21 team.

Hope to see an all u21 final this year. That would really make the competition look tinpot.

I can recall only one year when we took part in the FL trophy as a NL side. It was back in 2005/06 and we beat Chester and Darlo before Macc beat us in the QF. The first two games were at home, and the gates were 1224 and 1435 respectively, which do seem decent crowds compared to say the 400 odd fans that were present at The Abbey for the u/23 Southampton match.

2005/06 was our first season in the NL, so I'm not exactly sure why we were asked to take part in the LDV that season. We couldn't finish in the top half of the Conference seeing that it was our first year down there?

Because you finished the previous season in the bottom 2 of league 2, which obviously counts as higher then top half in the Conference.

You'll all be delighted to know we made 11 changes from weekend, beat Toon kids 2-1 and there were a mighty 525 in attendance.

When do we get the trophy?

The Sky Sports site has them, BBC doesn't seem to though.

I don't think the National League will be interested any more. They would rather have a competition involving TNS and Alloa Athletic or whoever.
I don't see a problem with 16 groups of 3, winners go through.

Or even stick to 2 go through, keeping the knock out as it is and still have 1 less game as only 2 group ties.

Managed to make five changes tonight from our injury hit squad, good news is Jordan Archer is on the bench and Manny Oyeleke also on the bench after six weeks out.

Two debutants in Scott Burgess and Shaun Brisley.

Hopefully no injuries! More important than the result tonight!

I arnt bothered if we lose in this competition. The side we have put out in one just to make sure we dont lose more key players to injuries for more important league games. Expect a routine macclesfield win here.

It’s not that bad, to be honest we can lose this anyway and would fancy ourselves if needed to get the job done against Newcastle kids.

The midfield is dreadful

Never seen Burgess play so can’t really say on him, not sure what formation it is. Bennett our wide?

Assume Manny will get thirty with Saturday in mind? Not sure if Macc have changed many

Didn't know they had made 10 changes. Not seen much of Burgess apart from in friendlies but we have lots of injuries in midfield yet this is his first appearance. We need bennett upfront with Cullen as Cullen isn't strong enough to play upfront on his own.

Story of a defensive calamity by Kennedy gifting Macc the lead and a cracker from Burgess for us.

Kennedy having a mare as is Ryan Lloyd. Brisley has impressed as has Taylor.

Playing some good stuff at times but if we want the win we need to get Kennedy off!
