Dunno who you had last.season.
Nat Knight-Percival who is decent and I hope he stays
An unfit Anthony Gerrard for a short spell (he got fit whilst playing for us and them did well at Oldham
An old unfit and slow Zak Whitbread although did ok at times
Injury prone Jermaine Grandison
Rookie defender Dom Smith who is one for the future but still raw

Fleetwood have signed a good solid L1 defender in Ashley Eastham. I wish he had stayed with us,.

Shrewsbury....what are you thinking? Ollie Lancashire is a below average L2 defender who had a mare in 2 out of 3 games last season. Cracking bloke by all accounts, and strangely made Club Captain for a short spell. But not upto L1 level I'm afraid.

However, this leaves us rather short at the back as we let Reece Bennett go as well, and Jim McNulty is ok but prone to the odd mistake.

Your manager offered him a contract though so obviously rates him?

Lancashire was at best 'erratic' during his spell at Walsall, no pace and positionally weak. May have improved by then, but the Dale fans make me think not. With Shrewsbury supposedly having a decent budget again this year, I'm surprised they are after this calibre of player. Unless he's a squad player.

What is that based on?

Lancashire looks like a player signed in preparation for our 2017/18 League 2 campaign, not impressed.

Trying to get Callum Elder permanently and Martin Samuelsen back on loan. Would be delighted with both.

Someone posted a link around the site somewhere talking about Mellon being backed with a reasonable budget (for Shrewsbury, not the league)..

He was well backed this year and wasted most of it didn't he? Shrewsbury have always had an 'okay' budget at this level. A good one for League 2.

Least you're not signing Vassell despite us releasing him.

He really is League Two trash.

Fleetwood seem to be stocking up on centre backs.

On a lower wage, one would presume.
Hill had a soft spot for him. He's actually pretty good on the ball but is found wanting when it comes to defending. I wish him all the best though. A good pro by all accounts.

Eastham to Fleetwood is quite disappointing. It shows how tough it is for us when we get gazzumped by Fleetwood and Shrewsbury, who aren't 'big' clubs as such.

Been linked with another Barnsley player - Alfie Mawson. Local rag reporting we're set to bid £500k. Left footed centre half I see, would be happy with that.

Looks like there's going to be a few clubs splashing the cash around this season.

Le Fondre expected to sign within the next week.

Le Fondre? Haha, I'll believe that when I see it, is this link based purely on Mason's video?

If true that would be a belting signing at this level.

At 29, I reckon he could probably still do a job in the Championship so I would expect him to start next season at that level.

The Woluffs reported interested in our out of contract keeper Jayson Leutwiler.

Le Fondre to Bradford would be a fantastic signing, he's had a poor 2 years now but he's more than good enough to bang in 20 goals in League One. Alfie Mawson would be a cracking signing for Bristol City as well, admired him when he was at Wycombe last season and wouldn't mind us taking a look if we fail to go up, scores goals as well.

Le Fondre would still be a goal machine at this level, given the correct service. Hanson/Le Fondre would be like the old Crouch/Defoe partnership of league 1.

Hansons off to Sheff Utd

You'd best believe the hype.

Are Barnsley just copying Crewe's doomed L2/Conference signings of a couple of years ago. All seems a bit weird.

Interested to see how Jackson does, won our Samsung 'be a pro' competition before release after 1 season. Funny to think he could be a Championship player in a weeks time.

Is it not also bizarre that Barnsley have signed 3 players before knowing what division they'll be in next season? Fair play for getting business done early but surely targets change depending on what division you end up in.
