Sarcevic really bulked up, top heavy, so was no loner mobile enough to play as a winger so Graham Alexander converted him to a central midfielder where he stayed. Few goals he got dried up and he finished up as a bog standard DCM, covering ground and moving the ball on quickly. Been with us a while though so change of scene may do him good and knowing Mellon he will probably give him more freedom to get forward, see if he can turn the clock back to his Chester, early Fleetwood days.

So after we'd already done that you put him back on the wing?

Wagstaff might be an option for Parky to look at. Gills will need some decent recruitment to get over this years implosion, Charlton are a mess, Swindon don't look too promising again. Perhaps City are his best chance at a team looking for promotion.

Bit early to be basing an opinion on which team will be challenging for promotion NEXT season Spike isn't it?

Perhaps, but I'm basing that on what your fans are saying about only signing player that will make a profit etc. I've not seen anything yet to suggest you will be 'going for it'. Unless I've missed it? I know Parky has already said we are aiming for top 2. So, that's what I know so far.

Until the squads are put together it's impossible to judge. Most clubs have done very little business so far.

I'm expecting a couple of rabbits out of hats signings and expect to do a lot better than last season.

He's not confirmed anything. He did mention our interest though. Sorry Ciderup :bg1:
No need to apologise, he's a good player. Obviously, with my City hat on, I don't want him to go to your lot as he will improve you and it will tarnish my feelings towards the bloke. He has to do what's best for himself and his family, with all respect, I hope that isn't rovers.

To be fair we'll be keeping the vast majority of the side that went close this year, with only Dack and Egan leaving of the vital players. We will have a decent transfer fund pot from those two to rebuild our squad more evenly, so we should at least be competitive next year. Wagstaff would be a good start.

Was never a winger for us either. He played CAM!
Same for us mostly and that's where his improvement came from. We played him on the wing for a bit when he first joined and he looked useful but when Neil Young put him in the middle that's when all the goals came and he really started to impress.

Apart from Louis Dodds I'm really unimpressed with Mellon's signings so far this summer.

Still very early days of course but there is little or nothing at this stage that gives me any grounds to think that next season will be much different to last season.

Matt Kilgallon linked with a return, thought we were moving away from this type of signing. Really wouldn't know what to think of this.

Are we just linked with every random German player at Stuttgart now?

To be fair Dodds isn't a great signing just an average one... Took eight years to find a position for him and is and has always been the one good game in every 3 or 4 games man and invisible the others. You'll have to play the system to suit him (just behind the lone striker) otherwise you'll not get the best out of him. Get you five-ten goals mind.

We had Dodds on a season long loan about 10 years ago, and we had no idea where his best position was either.

Seemed wasted out wide because his finishing was decent, but his other attributes weren't good enough to play up front. I think we ended up playing him on the left of a 3 and he chipped in with a few goals.

We have an unfortunate habit of taking players from under your noses.

I hope we aren't interested.
