I love Morsy so I want to sign him but we don't really even need him.

I also don't see why he'd really want to sign for us if he has other options available.

Let's analyse this logically.

Morsy has always been in the lower leagues and gets a move to his biggest club to date (Wigan) on by far his biggest salary of his career.

He's now achieved his life time ambition by playing in a bigger league (championship) at bigger grounds.

He was asked the other week about interest from Sheff Utd and MK Dons and he said something to the effect that he he doesn't want to drop down to league 1 and would rather fight for his place at Wigan.

It's been reported that Scunthorpe have offered £400K and it's been accepted but Morsy has a contract and isn't obliged to leave.

If he's to drop into league 1 then the salary is going to be higher than what clubs in league 1 can afford and more importantly he'll want the right club with ambitions and a realistic chance of promotion to the Champiinship and even the Premier League.

Wigan is only a small club but you wouldn't want to leave there to play at Scunthorpe (even if the wages were slightly increased).

Where as at Bramall Lane he's already played for Chesterfield there in front of over 26,000 the last 2 seasons. You would have thought he'd remember that atmosphere and jump at the chance to play at a big club, assuming Wigan have told him he is not in their plans.

Nothing ever surprises me regards the wheeling and dealing of transfers. For me it's a case of you win some you lose some, plenty more fish in the sea etc. If he goes to Scunny then it's a great signing based on his form at Chesterfield whose fans really rave about him.

Question for Scunthorpe fans. Do you have a new owner? How can you afford to bid £400K and offer big wages?

Smurfs fury after last night was this time kept in check before deciding we now need four new players a striker (one at Vale today) another on loan, a left back and a winger and warned the management of the clubs requirements this season.

Better than after Exeter when he slashed the budget and wanted to fire Page and sell up.

Does that mean the players you have signed so far are bobbins? ;)

Havent seen most of them yet, in fairness the Dutch defenders have seemingly done well especially Knopps but he has stuck with the English players. They don't seem fit most of them yet but we are short of full backs due to injury (Yates and Kiko) and have signed 2500 midfielders but no adequate winger apart from Thomas who isn't fully fit yet.

Need a winger, left back and striker (plus the Benfica goalie is all but officially signed)

Two players in the building for medicals today.

My guess is that one of them is Josh Magennis from Kilmarnock, no idea of the other one. Hopefully a midfielder that is younger than 30.

Slade: "It will take time. We're on the verge of something quite exciting at the minute with additions." #cafc

Oh Russell, you've set yourself up here. Quite exciting?

We have a owner who's willing to pay in order to get us to the Championship, 400k isn't really that much in that regard. In the past 10 years, we've made a lot of money from transfers and not really spent it.

Also, it's weird Sheff United fans think it would be outrageous that Morsy would go to us over them despite the fact we've been at the same or similar level for years and we finished above Sheff United last season.

The last big fee you received was like five or six years ago, for Gary Hooper. Are you suggesting you have money to spend through sales or just highlighting that selling without investment hasn't got you very far?

We recieved a fee larger than we're willing to pay for Morsy a couple of years ago for Winnall and we also recieved over a million when Hooper left Celtic for Norwich as we had a sell on fee. We spent a little bit on Van Veen last year and on Madden the year before, I don't understand why people don't think we have money to spend.

Hooper left Celtic for Norwich years ago and Winnall left for what, £500k? That money has long been swallowed up by the coffers. A fraction of that would have gone back into the transfer budget.

But we still have the money to spend regardless, I don't see why we wouldn't.

Sounds like Josh Magennis and Jordan Botaka from Leeds are the two undergoing medicals today.

Because running a football club is really, really expensive and even signing footballers on free transfers costs money. Five years of that shit. That money is long gone.

Chance we'll have two new faces in before the Chesterfield game Saturday.

Very early days, I know, but reports of our demise have been greatly exaggerated.

We have the beginnings of a very decent squad

Botaka's a great signing.

Not really seen much of him but what I know of him and from what I saw at Bury last week he is what we need, we lacked any urgency in midfield and were so lethargic. We need someone to run with the ball and bring some energy. Hopefully he's not being looked at as a replacement for Lookman, although Slade has said he doesn't envisage anymore outgoings.

Lookman and Botaka either side of Ajose would be ridiculous in L1, and if Slade doesn't manage to get a tune out of them he wants culling. Botaka's been described as the best and most skilful winger at Leeds since Gradel, and their fans are pretty baffled as to why he's not in the first team.

I think he'll do really well for you, he's incredibly talented.

Tom Hitchcocks contract mutually terminated. Came with high hopes, never got a chance.

This guy loves playing us. 4 of his last 8 career goals have come against us. Sign him up Scally!

Josh Magennis and Jordan Botaka both confirmed.

Magennis on a two year deal and Botaka on a season long loan.

Botaka in particular I'm happy about, will hopefully bring that spark that we lack in
midfield. Seen mixed reviews on Magennis so will give him a chance, a battering ram type centre forward can come in very useful.

We have signed 18 year old goalkeeper Chandler Hallwood on non contract terms.

Never heard of him. Released by Bradford and we've snapped him up as a goalie to develop and also sit on the bench when Etheridge is on international duty.

Buzzing with Agard signing, the first time since Jermaine Easter we've spent money on a striker and he's certainly kicked the excitement and expectation over in MK1 up a notch. Definitely a couple of wingers and maybe another centre back is all we need now for a solid promotion chasing campaign

That was all of our immediate reaction. You were happy to sell, he only had a year left on his deal etc. I personally thought £400K about right.

One of our fans asked a local journo who's usually pretty accurate whether it was £400K or the £1.2M City fans were suggesting? Interesting response... "The city fans are closer" !

So, at least £800K according to him then. That's a stunning amount of money for us.

I think Easter was £300K

'kin hell, that's fantastic business from our POV. I thought it'd be around £200k, given he had less than 1 year on his deal.

Yeah, doesn't stack up does it? More than recouping your £750K outlay for a player with one yr left. You may have had an option on him of a further year, but even then it usually has to be mutually agreed. Maybe it suits us at this particular moment to let everyone think (fans and opposition alike) that we've spent that kind of money. But then, why make it undisclosed?

No idea, it all seems very strange, but he'll be worth it if he scores a fair amount and you go up. Wish him all the best.
