1 in 16 since signing for them.

I'm not even saying Hanson is bad signing for Sheff Utd btw, he certainly offers them something different. I just never understand this argument 'well someone at that club must like him and I'm sure they know more than the thousands of people who've watched him on a weekly basis for years'.

This has proved to be bollocks an awful lot, teams often make signings that ultimately flop. Sir Alex Ferguson, one of the greatest managers there has been, who knows his stuff more than most once signed Ashley Young!

Swindon fans said on here what type of player Nicky Ajose is when we signed him and where he is most effective, Russell Slade, another who is supposed to be highly regarded in this division signed him and never played him that way. Surely he should know more than a few Swindon fans on an Internet forum? Apparently not, that's why he's likely to leave already in this window.

Leon likes to be the main striker, he misses a hell of a lot of easy chances but he worked his arse off for us tbf. If we didn't have Vaughan I'd love to have him back personally.

Agree Bobbin and Joe that fans tend to be pretty knowledgeable but every team gets players that split opinions. Hanson is one of those. He is not a pretty footballer and like all strikers(certainly at this level) will miss his share of sitters. However, dislike shouldn't turn into bigotry and hatred. He will do a good job for the Blades, just as he has for us.

It's always struck me as odd that football fans are willing to always play the 'they must know better than the fans' card. Yeah sure, they've got a job in football, but why does that automatically make them more knowledgeable? Managers tend to have a style and a type of player that they like to have in their side, and often find it difficult to recruit outside of that mould. The ones that can are generally the ones that end up being successful. For fans, who see an array of managers with different styles, and thousands of different players over the years, I would argue that in the end we actually get exposed to a far greater array of styles and tactics than the managers actually using them. Of course, there are a certain percentage of fans (and managers) whose opinions I can't take seriously, but more often than not it's the fans that talk the sense.

I wouldn't trust the opinion of a single football supporter, no matter how knowledgable, over 95% of the people actually involved in the game. It's very easy to play armchair manager, getting more wrong than you get right (but conveniently forgetting all those instances of the former) when there are no stakes at hand, but the people in the coaching side of things have made a career out of getting those calls right most of the time and their decisions actually carry real weight and responsibility.

Besides, it's never as simple as 'xyz is shit'. I think almost every manager knows the limitations of the players he has at his disposal. There is always far more to consider than the ability of an individual footballer: can the club afford better alternatives, is the player effective in the system, does the manager see untapped potential there, is he putting the hard work in where other more talented players aren't, is he a good influence in the dressing room, etc, etc. These are all questions we can't answer unless we're privy to what is going on behind the scenes.

As for the professionals involved in the game: they of course have seen far more of other styles than any one football supporter has. Most have played in a variety of styles, and all have played against every which combination in a playing career spanning decades.

Can we just clarify something here, I don't hate the guy. I'm not a bigot, either.

You've already summed up the fact that he doesn't do a very good job at scoring goals, of which for the best part of 8 years, he was the focal point of our 'attack'. 'A main striker'.

Averaging 12 goals a season isn't good enough, and as I've said countless times before, he's useful as a plan B, last throw of the dice. He shouldn't be a guaranteed starter like he was here (barring this season). So, Sheff Utd are chucking money round like there's no tomorrow, and there are probably not many better target men in this division than Hanson. I've never disputed this. Sheff Utd are covering all corners, and going for it.

They've paid well over the top IMO for a player who could walk for free in a matter of months.

You don't have to be the oracle of all things football to know understand that this was the best move for all parties.

Oh, and put your tampon back in ya wet c***!

Anyway, back on topic.

SKY sources and our local rag tweeting we've tabled a £250,000 bid for Charlie Wyke.

In this case Jockney, CW no doubt took advice. Not from our fans but from his own defenders.

Unable to comment, I've never seen him play. But 38 goals from 88 app for Carlisle ain't a bad return.

Most of our fans are pissed off we're only getting 250k, silly release clause. He'll be a good signing for Bradford, he's capable of missing sitters but largely reliable in front of goal.

Been worse flops costing more money signed by Sir Alex Ferguson at Man U than Ashley Young!

He's in a similar mould to what Danny Graham was like when we had him - not much of a footballer, but he's always in the right place at the right time... alot better in the air though. His finishing ain't as clinical mind, for every goal he scores he'll have missed two sitters beforehand.

Edit: Charlie Wyke, that is...

Yes I know, it wasn't a dig at you I was just curious as to where there's been an bigoted comments towards Hanson or any footballer in here...

I just really dislike Ashley Young as a player, he can't even run properly.

What? Why is that even relevant?

In fairness, Loz brought up bigotry and hatred, I was scratching my head when reading it too.

Edit: Just realised this has already been addressed.

We've signed Scott Tanser from Rochdale. Is he a left back does anyone know?

Left Back apparently... relieves us of Knopps there although I like the look of Kiko so far!

Agreed, I'm surprised Kiko hasn't had more game time. Knopps did well at the start of the season and considering he's out of position

Kiko looks class when played but guess Browny sees him more than me!

Good player. Started off the season well but picked up an injury and now can't get back into due to the form of Morris and Holmes. I've always liked Williams, he does struggle with consistency but pretty much all wingers do at this level. If you can get him match fit, I think he will be a very good signing.

He has played as a left back for us, but not recently. Played last week against Oxford when clearly unfit/unwell, and his legs went . Only a kid, so a good few weeks of training, and he'll be fine.
Hilly has clearly lost faith in him though, and he's usually a good judge.

Jak Alnwick could be off to Rangers we've confirmed an approach and reports suggest they've met his £250,000 release clause, gutting to lose him at that as he is currently the best at this level... been top class this season and made wonder save after save to keep us afloat under Bruno.

Seems to be rumours tonight though that we are turning them down despite meeting the clause as they want to pay it on an instalment plan!

Don't go into a deal with Rangers, they will probably go bust when instalment 2 is due! Plus why would Alnwick want to sit on the bench and watch Wes week in and week out?

It's been mentioned they've offered 70k up front and 60k in each other the next three summers! Without that clause we could get far more for him on current form and potential so if Smurf even thought of accepting it in instalments he'd be mad!

Would be money I guess if Alnwick does go and maybe Foderingham is going?

Might have to get our new GK coach Kirkland to come out of retirement for the rest of the season as we've only got two youth keepers now and Boot looked a bag of nerves Friday night!
