Frank Moussa is re-joining on trial for pre-season. Makes sense, he never really had a chance to break into the team from January onwards, but he obviously has pedigree and is certainly worth a no-risk look.

Cov fans apparently Chris Stokes is signing for us. Any thoughts?

https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/s...ws/coventry-city-transfer-league-two-14860987

A steady left-back at League Two level. Was excellent for us under Mowbray in League One a few years back but suffered quite a bad injury and never really looked the same. Took him a while to get going last season and was a bit of a weak link at times but get a full pre-season under his belt and you'll have a decent League Two player there.

Our pretty quiet summer continues and doesnt look like it will get much more interesting on the incoming front.

Jones has done an interview saying we are looking at bringing in 1 more player in. Interestingly he says its an "attacking" player, so id assume yet another Number 10 type player or a forward.

Surprised at that as we look pretty weak in the midfield positions if you ask me and looking to rely on McCormack to play regularly as the DM. Not keen on that i must say.

We really need to sign some players. 2 players brought in and 10 left.

Has to be said, Scunthorpe look quite fucked.

Has Duane Holmes left the club? Seems Hull are keen on bringing back Townsend too.

What you need is a sexy foursome of Marnick Vermijl, Andy Boyle, Ben Pringle and Eoin Doyle.

We're in a very bad position. Holmes hasn't left yet but he probably will do, same with Townsend. I will take all four of those players as I'll take anyone right now.

Happy so far, not one of them I was arsed about leaving other than Doyle, and when O'Donnell came in that feeling went away.

If Hope Akpan is a replacement for Dieng then that's a decent upgrade imo. What do the Burton fans on here think of Akpan?

Even Alan Nixon has been complimentary of our business, and he's hated us for a year.

Stop trying too offload your deadwood on us poor souls down here....

Actually I'd take Doyle, if he's free.

£250k according to reports in Ireland.

Sunderland, Scunthorpe United and Fleetwood Town are keen to get him on board, with North End looking for £250,000.

Boyle is shite, Pringle used to be decent down here but seems he's not now and Vermijl is an ok wingback when he's not pretending to be injured.

What do the Burton fans on here think of Akpan?

I can tell you what we think of him. When at Crawley he ended the professional career of a young lad we'd got in from non-league who looked promising with a vicious tackle that broke his leg. Very much looking forward to renewing our acquaintance.

We need a bit more C**t in the team, I'd never vindicate deliberately injuring a player but after the soft pricks last season a villain or two is most welcome.

In the extended interview he said definitely 1, maybe 2 depending on some unspecified things. Potts leaving perhaps? Marriott sale freeing up some cash for a bigger transfer fee? Or waiting on another transfer to grease the wheels in the market? Who knows.

Agreed we look light in midfield though. Got a feeling we'll be seeing Shinnie used in place of Olly Lee this season (i.e. deeper than he played last year) which would perhaps explain why Jones doesn't view us as light in the middle despite 3 midfielders leaving.

Been linked with Jorge Grant and he would be a great signing I think (although I'd only be interested in a permanent rather than a loan). But I worry that until Berry is fit (and who knows when that will be) the only physically dynamic midfielder we have is Pelly who's consistency issues are well documented. Gambin, Shinnie, Grant if he came in - all lightweight and not going to go box to box. You can carry one like that (we did with Olly Lee after all) but not two in the same XI.

It does seem odd that we've seemingly abandoned the plan to sign a proper DM considering we were ready to spend big there in January. That saga suggested that Jones did not see McCormack/Rea as enough long term so what's changed? The only thing I can think of is that we plan to play 3-5-2 more often next season as that means one less midfielder (where we lack numbers) and one more centre back where we are very well stocked (and seemingly somewhat imbalanced as I still can't picture Sheehan and Bradley playing together in a 2 man pairing).

I suspect Jones sees Rea challenging and backing up that role.

Yes I thought so too, just think his passing might be slightly under what’s required to play that role at a higher level. More concerned about the box to box positions in the midfield.

Assuming Berry isn’t fit there’s Pelly , ended the season brilliantly but inconsistent in the main, and not much else really.

If I’d seen this I would t have written my vastly inferior response to Belize as I basically meant this!

Not keen on seeing Shinnie play deeper, he’s so weak I really don’t think it would suit him at all. Hope we aren’t going back to the days shoe horning wingers or otherwise wholly unsuitable players into midfield. In that sense going 352 makes some sense.

How about you take Wyke of our hands and give us Doyle, just give us a clean £1mil and we won't say owt else about it.

Pringle looked awful against us for Oldham.

It should be known by now Shirley that anything Jonesy says in press conferences should be taken with a pinch of salt; if not a complete downright lie.

So any news on Jorge Grant? I see that Oxford are now probably the favourites to sign him?

Signed Bradden Inman on a 1 year deal. Improved from non-entity to fairly useful during the course of last season's loan, so fairly happy with this.
