He won’t need to run much as we‘ll just be smashing the ball at his head for 90 minutes

Might be ok then, the touch and link-up is there just nothing else.

Can shift over ten yards but then that's him done for the game.

Don't expect him to have any shots.

Are there any Fleetwood fans on here? Trying to find out more about our new signing, Harrison Biggins - all Wikipedia has on him is that him and his mum and dad have had coronavirus...

Hanlan is a very possible move to pompey but ogilvie you have no chance, unless u have a couple of million spare plus if he leaves it will be for the championship

Signing Jonny Smith from Bristol City. I know Oldham fans rated him highly last season.
Wonder if he'll play tomorrow for either side or sit it out completely.

Hes keeping fit here played every pre season game, we need to give a deadline to sign or tell him to do one

We need to keep the offer on the table to receive any sort of compensation from a tribunal if he were to leave

Seems Downes won't be going to Palace. Offered £2m, we already know we won't accept less than £8m. Contracted till 2022 with option for further season.

Expect the Hammers and perhaps a few other Prem League sides to get closer to our valuation,.

£8m for Flynn Downes? The game has gone.

Nobody will pay it at this stage (though I expect we'll see bids around £5m in the coming days) of his career and we won't sell for less. I suppose that's my point. He's unlikely to move in this window.

He's head and shoulders above any other midfielder in this league. Shame about the rest of the outfield players!

Behave, Ben Whiteman is by far the best midfielder in this league

I was impressed with him when we had him on loan and I guess he must’ve improved since. Certainly has Championship potential, but for £5m... behave!

It’s a bit of a bold statement to say the best midfielder is a defensive midfielder who doesn’t score?

"defensive midfielder who doesn’t score?" Do you see the oxymoron?

Hey, all entitled to our own opinions. The only thing we know is ME has stated he won't entertain anything outside the ballpark of £8m. As for £5m, forget it. I imagine we'll have to rebuff that level of bid before the 13th of September though. I imagine it's more likely he will end up being bought at the end of the season.

He's got 11 England caps at U19/U20 ("Championship potential" lol wake up I know it's early morning) and I don't really know how to compare that to a Whiteman of 3 more years who's found himself at Doncaster Rovers at the age of 24 having never been near nor talked about in the England youth setup. All I know is which one is valued higher.

TBF - I wasn't looking for a debate on his ability when I stated he's the best in the league. Each to their own, but somebody will meet our valuation if not this season then next. I'd rather they didn't, as due to Salary Cap we would struggle to use the funds for transfers anyway with such a bloated squad.

edit; here this demonstrates Flynn last season and how he's developed. Enjoy.

We need a few more like him tho!

Unlike someone who has played at England level and ended up in League 1? Bit of a poor comparison, Whiteman has got better every year and we’ve turned down at least 5 multi million pound offers since January.

What’s the transfer record fee received for a player at this level?

I know Ipswich are a bit of an anomaly, but there’s quite a few clubs here who aren’t worth £8m in their entireity.

Hull City have had two bids turned down for Oliver Rathbone from Dale. According to their local chip-wrapping they are scrabbling down the back of the sofa looking for the wherewithal for a third and final bid.

See there we go then. Palace already been rebuffed twice most recently at £2m+clauses for a 21yr old Downes. With West Ham cited as ready to pay £5m which Lambert has stated will not even begin negotiations. Arsenal have also been scouting him.

Meanwhile, Whiteman 24 is being chased by Barnsley and BlackBurn Rovers. Go figure. I think the so far the only public bid I can find a source for is from Hull for £1m.

They're both too good for this league, irrespective of our difference of opinion.

He's here only because we were relegated... he's our academy product from age 7. It's not like he's had to drop down a league to find a club... unfortunately by the time he broke into our squad we were no longer a shit Championship side and we find ourselves down here.:err: If Flynn is still at a L1 side at the age of 24 something has gone terribly wrong (a la Whiteman!).

Anyway, back to transfers, I can't help but feel so many clubs have been hamstrung at short notice by this Salary Cap. I know some people in here will bork at £5-£8m bids, but the irony is it doesn't really make any sense to sell because until we shift 4 or 5 more bodies out on loans or transfers we have no wages to play with! For as long as that remains the case ME won't entertain anything under the £8m valuation, one of the positives behind having an £800m owner... whilst he doesn't make much available for transfers these days he does year on year plug a £5m shortfall.

Don't get me wrong, I certainly know he's a good player that will only get better - I just balk at any team outside the Championship who is quoting £8m for ANY player. It certainly makes me again reassess the value of our own players as really I don't think we have any that would go for that amount (not even close).

The idea is that Championship clubs should be able to look to League 1 and 2 to improve their squad - yet, very average players are going for obscene amounts. It makes a club like ours very difficult to operate.

Perhaps I'm still living in 2015 when prices were slightly more reasonable.

In terms of funding a £5m shortfall and fans bemoaning the lack of transfer activity. Don't you see that's the problem? What is wrong with teams paying what they bring in like any other business?

Northampton have a Mr A Trialist in their side today v Luton - they are not putting any numbers on shirts either. I just think this business is a bit tinpot, especially when the game is streamed on the internet.

It's Jordy Hiwula from Coventry.

Imagine how much he would have been worth if he hadn’t had to put up with Paul Lambert for the past year or so.

Rob Dickie isn't in the squad today as we play QPR.

Looks like a significant bid has been made for him so he will be gone soon enough.

Anyone suggesting figures are purely speculating and in my opinion dreaming.

Such a figure would be a record for a defender from League 1 and I would rather hefty sell on percentage when he moves up to the Premier League in his next move.
