Posh rumoured to have signed Clarke-Harris from Bristol Rovers for £1.25m.

Must mean Toney's sold as well.

Odd club, happy to spend that amount amongst others but can't give proper refunds to fans on ST's.

JCH confirmed. Honestly not too bothered if I’m honest. As good as JCH is, he’s very one dimensional and can only play long ball - as soon as you’re not playing long ball he’s not with it at all. Plus he’s injury prone and only manages to play 20-30 games a season, so all in all £1.25m + add ons for him with a year left is a good deal, especially as he was signed for free. Hopefully we reinvest that into at least one other striker though as we will miss his goals, someone will be needed who can play the ball on the floor.

Does make you wonder Peterborough’s wage budget though, we were offering him about £5k+ a week (which was already at our absolute max) and Peterborough offered him “considerably more” on a 4 year deal. Must be talking £7k a week?!

That's a great deal for you guys. Just had a browse of your forum and some feel it's a bad deal - I would be reasonably happy if those figures are accurate. A nice piece of business with less than 12 months remaining on the deal.

We’ve offered Stephen Ireland a contract but his agent has said he wants more money. Doubt very much that we’ll break the bank for him so suspect he won’t be playing in red this season.

If he is serious about playing again, then surely there aren't going to be THAT many clubs willing to offer him a deal? A heavily incentivised one would surely be the route most clubs would go down.

Signed Ed Williams on a 2 year deal, left mid, was at Kidderminster last season.

Better strikers than him have left the gas for a lot less.

A 4 year deal on a contract much higher than our top earner is risky.

Posh could have had Jonson and Broom for next to nothing not so long ago too...

Blimey who’d have thought 18 months ago they’d be worth £1.5m together?!

Gotta be honest I'm surprised he has stepped up so far. He was really good 2 years ago but his form tailed off and he's never hit the heights since. He's clearly talented but for some reason it wasn't working here with us recently. Personally would class him as a number 10 who can play wide but his best role is down the middle.

Thing with Peterborough is that they buy for big money, sell for bigger money then go absolutely nowhere. They flatter to deceive most seasons. Hand out a few real spankings now and again but, ultimately, they’re bottlers.

Always though Clarke-Harris was worth a punt for us but not from what Bristol Rovers fans are saying on here.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s a cracking player. Holds the ball up well, strong, earns free kicks, will create something from nothing, quality finisher - but he needs to be the star man. When we didn’t play long ball (Graham Coughlans football) he was pretty much invisible.

If we had a decent manager, maybe he’d be able to get more out of him? A year go I thought he was one of, if not the best strikers in L1 who’s go into the championship and beyond - a year later, whilst he scored a hatful, he’s still one of the best in the league, but not as good as I thought he was. Still a good signing for Peterborough though

Tbf, it’s a typical fans reaction after losing a good player. We convinced ourselves that because we create so many chances even Oleg McNoleg could replace Doyle’s exploits.

It’s not the leaving that’s the problem, it’s the replacing.

Yeah, seems a bit one dimensional for the type of striker we need this window.

The creating something from nothing probably wouldn't happen very often in the league above.

I mentioned his shortcomings when you signed him.
You have had their pants down if the fee is true.
He's worth £250,000 tops.
Now watch him get 25 goals

We play one up front with 3 behind who interchange so I expect him to be in the 3, thanks for the post. We wanted him in January but he injured his hamstring, it might be knowing our interest made his performance drop off. He’s been good pre season

It’s the sound of silence over here so not heard anything, what position does he play? Is it view to a loan or permanent?

Winger, right footer who plays on the left from the little i've seen.

Apart from a few cameos i've only ever seen him play left back in the cup when we were really short. Seemed pacey but little else.

Dunno if its a loan or transfer, depends on wages I suppose but can't see us wanting a fee.

Bristol Rovers & Walsall fans will have seen more of him.

Cheers SF seems a strange one we are overloaded with wingers we need a defensive midfielder, striker and centre back but I trust DM.

Signed Donervon Daniels. Some clubs fans seem to like him, others (Doncaster) despise him.

Heard he’s prone to giving away a penalty. Hopefully he turns out to be more of a Nottingham than a Lancashire.

Yeah I agree. He is presumably friends/knows Noel Hunt who is our assistant manager which maybe where the link is. He is 34 so I reckon we’ll not be breaking the bank as his signing would be hugely risky.

Ellis Chapman signing has raised its head again. Spotted locally with fellow ex-Imp Jack Payne. Being 19 he’d be a decent squad padder as he wouldn’t count against the squad cap.

Nice to see certain teams taking this salary cap business seriously...

On Donvervon Daniels, I'm not really sure what G Jones was thinking last year signing him, but popped up with a goal v Derby and appears like he could do a job at L1 level. No higher

Just what are Posh paying JCH if they’ve paid over £1m for him? Must be 3 x the player average. How are they fiddling the cap?

I was wondering this earlier.. if we were making him our highest paid player, which would be £5k+ and their offer was considerably higher, then they must be really forking out 6/7/8k?

Who scrutinises whether or not clubs adhere to the cap?

If clubs are going to wriggle out of it, just bin the fucking thing.
