It seems Posh are happy to have excess players over the allotted squad size rule which for this season goes outside of the cap.

Doesn’t seem to be within the spirit of the rules at all.

We have taken a 40% budget cut compared to last season to try and keep the club going and stay within the financial salary cap. Any clubs deemed to be flouting the rules or not adhering to these conditions should have the book thrown at them. Very unlikely to happen though I fear.

Is there even provision in the rules for a range of punishments? Or is it just a financial “tax”?
Have said rules even been published by the EFL?!

I think there are a sliding scale of rules dependent on how much over the cap you go, mainly a financial punishment but I can’t remember for sure. Whether there are stricter rules that would actually deter clubs from cheating and gaining unfair advantages over others is another matter.

Yeah it’s a sliding scale financial penalty, but can’t remember the exact rules either.

There needs to be a rule about clubs stockpiling players with no intention of playing them. Maybe fine the club the players seasons wage if they’re not used?

FFS we have lost Rhys Healey who's gone to Toulouse for and undisclosed fee. I thought we were doing OK to start with but we are slowly haemorrhaging our best players.

I remember reading somewhere that money from transfers received sits outside the cap, so you can reinvest the Toney money and still abide by the rules, but havent actually analysed the code so I dunno if its true.

Winger, right footer who plays on the left from the little i've seen.

Apart from a few cameos i've only ever seen him play left back in the cup when we were really short. Seemed pacey but little else.

Dunno if its a loan or transfer, depends on wages I suppose but can't see us wanting a fee.

Bristol Rovers & Walsall fans will have seen more of him.
It’s the sound of silence over here so not heard anything, what position does he play? Is it view to a loan or permanent?
Has Ginnelly even played that much, SF_? His move to you was a weird one.

We found him a tricky winger and an edge of your seat type player but he was very hit and miss with his final ball (as wingers usually are). Too many twists and turns and missed a chance to cross. A good character and well liked in these parts, though.

Did well at L1 level, which gave him his PNE opportunity but a year or two before that we cut his loan spell short because he didn't look L2 standard and went back into the NL with Tranmere.

Ellis Chapman signing has raised its head again. Spotted locally with fellow ex-Imp Jack Payne. Being 19 he’d be a decent squad padder as he wouldn’t count against the squad cap.
Looking more and more like he's going to end up being a squad filler, like he would've been here anyway, or in a Championship U23 team (rumoured to have had a trial for Brentford B). Don't really understand his thinking behind not responding to his contract offer here, tbh.

Just what are Posh paying JCH if they’ve paid over £1m for him? Must be 3 x the player average. How are they fiddling the cap?
They'll probably have already sold Toney and just not made it public yet. For this season only, they can sit players out side of the salary cap as long as they're not included within the official squad list as well so that'll help.

Fines for breaching the squad cap by up to five per cent have been set by the EFL.

In League One, clubs face a set fine for overrunning their wage bill by up to £125,000.

The fines are set as follows
- Between zero and two per cent overspend - 50p for every £1 over spent.
Example: A club breaches the League One cap by £25,000. They will be fined £12,500.

- Between two and four per cent overspend - £1 for every £1 over spent.
Example: A club breaches the League One cap by £75,000. They will be fined £75,000.

- Between four and five per cent overspend - £3 for every £1 over spent.
Example: A club breaches the League One cap by £125,000. They will be fined £375,000.

Any club overspending by more than five per cent will be immediately referred to an independent disciplinary commission, who will determine the punishment.

The EFL have termed the fines as a ‘luxury tax.’ The total amount of the fine will be redistributed to clubs who comply with the restrictions.

Correct. You can re-invest transfers fees received and they're not part of the cap.

From the outside, it all seems a bit weird at MK this summer.

Are you saying that although Posh have signed JCH, they won’t actually be able to play him?

Of course they'll play him. He's going to be there main striker. He was on 3.5k with us and his new deal would have gone up to 5k which is the max we are paying anyone at present. We also bid 600k for Healy but got priced out by wage demands.

No, I'm not.

What I'm saying is that Posh can leave players out of their squad list this season and said players won't count towards the salary cap, so what they're paying him this season isn't *as* important as it will be next season where everyone, regardless of whether they're in the squad list, are counted.

You have to be in the squad list to be able to play.

We are making another signing today, strong rumour it’s Cameron John from Wolves who we had on loan last season. Fantastic if true. Signed on a 2 year deal brilliant. Just need a defensive midfielder, cover at right back and a striker.

Signing Jonny Smith from Bristol City. I know Oldham fans rated him highly last season.

Just need a striker or 2 plus a back up keeper and we’re done, I reckon.

After Dave Nugent from Preston. Reckon he’ll get a champ move but Curle is a good salesman so who knows.

This now means we have 4 players - all certain starters - called Smith.

Well, the keeper is Kovar but, spookily, Kovar means Smith in Czech!

Nope, we signed him for about £50k as a bit of a project to mould into a Callum Robinson type player.

Didn't seem to do much at Bristol Rovers and obviously hasn't shown much in training, so we're chalking him off, just like the shite we signed from Ireland.

We have to take on a few of these cheap, hopeful punts because we can't compete for transfers with 90% of Championship clubs. Swansea have beaten us to 4 targets in the past 12 months alone.

Doubt it, he's well and truly finished at Championship level and I can't believe we re-signed him.

I don't think he'd do much at this level either.

He won’t need to run much as we‘ll just be smashing the ball at his head for 90 minutes

Same from this side. One minute actually paying a fee for a player and the next selling our best two players.

All I can think of is either it was offers we couldn't refuse or the players were adamant about wanting to leave and Martin/Winkleman folded. Especially with Healey who still had 2 years of a 3 year contract to go.
