Thanks, and the V?
Pretty sure that was silent too. I have looked up some videos they did online, and unfortunately every time they were introduced it was by a non-native speaker so I could not be sure of their pronounciation, and they never said their name themselves. so I might be wrong and it is ten years since I have been in a meeting with them.

I'll just call him Craig.

Cracking league one keeper. Fantastic reflexes. In some games you won't have a clue how he saved some of those shots...Although don't expect him to be like Amos and come and collect high hanging crosses. He pretty much sticks to his line. Not sure it it was lack of faith in the defense, but sometimes he'll come rushing out of the area to clear when defenders are there. Check out highlights from Northampton away. Also again, not 100% sure it its a combination of our pathetic midfield from last season, but he gets beat alot from long range shots. At least 10-15 goals have been from long range or headers in the 6 yard box. Look at Wigan and Burton at home. Both Burton goals show his lack of commanding area and poor long range shot stopping. However watch the Salford Final to see how good a shot stopper he is.

Well that's a worry, one of the pleasing things about seeing the back of Amos was his inability to save anything from long range.

Happy enough, I'd say overall a slight improvement on Amos but most definitely not worse.

I second Nelson's comments above re MacGillivray. Had some great performances for us, but did make the occasional gaffe. Could keeper at this level if you're not too fussed about distribution.

I reckon the Cowleys were more interested in distribution so decided to let him go.

Looks like Ben Amos to Wigan and Craig MacGillivray to us.

Happy with that, looks like we've upgraded in that department.
One of the best keepers in League 1 you’ve just signed! Didn’t play many games for us due to having Dean Henderson at the time, but when he did you could see he was quality. His reflexes and shot stopping are above League 1 standard. Only thing that let him down for us was his distribution and coming for crosses. But he makes up for that in other departments.

I'm personally not too fussed on distribution, I know others might be

In my time, my two favourite Charlton keepers have been Dean Kiely and Dillon Phillips who were both fantastic shot stoppers, both dreadful at kicking though

Yeah I noticed the conceding long shots when he played for us. He conceded so many direct free kicks too. I didn’t particularly rate him at the time we had him but we’d had Jussi Jaaskelainen, Al Habsi etc fairly recently back then so I may have been overly critical and we were on our downward spiral so everyone seemed crap compared to what we had been used to.

I didn't mind Amos, as has been said he commands his box well and he was always pretty good in one on one situations but the issue with long range efforts did become quite tiring.

Starting to get a bit worried now. Seen better players going to other L2 sides than what we have signed

As expected Paul Mullin has rejected our contract offer. He will go down as a legend who propelled us to league one and will get a standing ovation from me if he stays in league one and comes back to the abbey.

Rotherham and Middlebrough are clubs being mentioned but wherver he ends up they have to build the team around him.

Mullin benefited from Joe Ironside and Wes Hoolahan so whoever comes in as his replacement will get a lot of chances playing with those two.

Elliott Bonds set to sign a permanent deal at Cheltenham from Hull.

We had him on loan at the start of last season and he looked great before getting a bad tendon injury cut his season short in October. If he's over it, this could be a great signing.

I don’t think he will personally. We have signed that lad from Coventry as a target man and I reckon we will use the loan market for a 3rd choice. Unless he’s planning on going back to the 3/5 at the back. At which point why would we sign Dapo, this Amaechi, and keep Isgrove etc.

I saw Middlesbrough and Blackburn had expressed interest. Championship is a big jump but if the offer is there no way he is coming to us. Wouldn’t mind him on a free tbf so would be happy at 5pm Friday if you are right.

Middlesbrough and Rotherham I’ve read. Good luck to him, it’s a short career and you have to think of number one. Will always be a lockdown legend.

Disappointed that mullin has chosen not stay here but have nothing but admiration for him, not just for his goals but his work rate was excellent.

I’m personally more disappointed in knoyle leaving and think we’ll miss him more, still think he’ll get better which makes it even more surprising he’s signed for Doncaster, thought he’d be in the championship.

some big holes to fill for bonner and I’m currently worried where our goals are gonna come from.

I've admittedly had limited viewing of Mullin but whenever he's come up against us, he's worked hard and that's about it. Was it just a purple season for him or is there genuinely a L1 players in there?

L2 strikers generally don't step up too well I don't think. I'm siting Akinde, Norwood and Jackson in the last couple of years as examples but I'm sure they'll be more (and the odd one who's done well, maybe Collins of Luton).

Think lge 1 will be to much for him, he had some tidy finishes last season but the whole team was set up for him, whether he’ll get anywhere else we’ll have to wait and see.

I don’t care where he goes as long as he doesn’t end up at the scum. I think somewhere like Rotherham would be good for him - well run club, good young forwarding thinking manager, step up to League 1 (not Championship), aiming for promotion, not a “huge” club so realistic expectations etc. I think a Blackburn type club would be disastrous for him.

Anyway, I’ve loved his spell with us (obviously) and he’s been a key part in our best season in 20+ years. Some of the goals he scored last season were ridiculous too - Walsall (h), Grimsby (a) and Carlisle (a) spring to mind but there were so many good ones. Such a humble, hard working player who has more than earns his pay day after last season.

For us, it’s a shame to not get anything for him but I think back to this time a year ago with covid taking over and no hint as to what income we could generate. We took a chance on a 1 in 5 striker on a one year deal deliberately so we weren’t committed financially. The club did exactly the right thing at the time. Just one of those things.

Hopefully Bonner and Strang can unearth another gem. Whoever will be joining us will be like a pig in muck with Ironside, Hoolahan, Tracey and Lankester feeding him.

Thing with Collins is that he has scored goals throughout his career. He had an at least decent scoring record and often a lot better than that everywhere he has been. The others mentioned have had decent records at one or 2 clubs or even just one season but Collins has always been a consistent scorer everywhere. Hence he has made the step whereas the others haven’t (or haven’t as quickly as he did yet).

I am clearly biased here but for me he’s a level above those you’ve mentioned and should have been playing higher a lot sooner than he eventually did.

Mullins all round game isn’t great. He works hard and boy could he finish last season but I’d imagine his stats on a scout report aren’t great if you take away his goals.

I’m suspecting that’s why he hasn’t got the move he wanted. We wish him well as long as he doesn’t join that lot up the A1 and hope he goes on to score plenty of goals and goes higher.

Judging by our recruitment I think we will ploy a 4-5-1 and hit on the break with pace next season but definitely need a few more options up top.
