I don’t care where he goes as long as he doesn’t end up at the scum. I think somewhere like Rotherham would be good for him - well run club, good young forwarding thinking manager, step up to League 1 (not Championship), aiming for promotion, not a “huge” club so realistic expectations etc. I think a Blackburn type club would be disastrous for him.

Anyway, I’ve loved his spell with us (obviously) and he’s been a key part in our best season in 20+ years. Some of the goals he scored last season were ridiculous too - Walsall (h), Grimsby (a) and Carlisle (a) spring to mind but there were so many good ones. Such a humble, hard working player who has more than earns his pay day after last season.

For us, it’s a shame to not get anything for him but I think back to this time a year ago with covid taking over and no hint as to what income we could generate. We took a chance on a 1 in 5 striker on a one year deal deliberately so we weren’t committed financially. The club did exactly the right thing at the time. Just one of those things.

Hopefully Bonner and Strang can unearth another gem. Whoever will be joining us will be like a pig in muck with Ironside, Hoolahan, Tracey and Lankester feeding him.
Who’s the scum for Cambridge?

I think it’s worth a punt for a lot of clubs especially in league 1 because it’s a low risk free transfer. If he doesn’t produce then there will still be plenty of clubs at league 2 level prepared to take him on loan etc because of that one season. I don’t think any clubs are going to really lose out by signing him.

I would like us to take that chance on him if it’s an option. Doyle is 34 this season. His legs were fine last season but you could see in certain games he was a bit burnt out as we had no options to rotate him. We are putting together a squad with some pretty decent depth now. And we can still add multiple loans. If we do land Mullin we only really need another left back and maybe an attacking midfielder once we’ve moved Crawford on and we are set for the season.

Tommie Hoban set to sign for us from Aberdeen. Recovered from serious injuries to become an almost ever-present for a solid Aberdeen defence last season. Should be confirmed this afternoon!

I didn't expect to see Jon Obika back in L1 tbh. Enjoy the step overs as you will see them often whenever he plays.

Will have the occasional good game or be outstanding for 20 minutes or so and then get injured. Will inexplicably fall over when clean through occasionally as well. Always gave a 100% though and as said would have a good game every now and then but could be anonymous a lot as well.

Very good player when fit .

Be an excellent purchase if he stays injury free.

Jorge Grant signs for Posh. They love a midfielder from us.

Shame to see him go but a deserved move into the Championship. A sell-on as well so we'll probably get a bit more money further down the line.

Important for us no doubt about it but it was when Bridcutt and Walsh were missing we seemed to struggle more.
Seemed to have taken the 'easy' move to a championship club local and less expectation and challenge if had he gone to an established championship as opposed to a newbie.

First to go there from us since Lee Frecklington?

Alex Woodyard.

Suspect Posh worked from a location point of view given that he's got a newborn and won't need to uproot from Notts.

Forgotten about him as kinda stalled there didn't it?
I get totally why he's gone there family first etc but I just feel he's not challenging himself.
At least we've got some money for him and he hasn't gone for nowt but I'm sure they'll say it'll be a pittance.

Bloody Posh!

Particularly last season, Jorge came on leaps and bounds and was fantastic. From a bit of a luxury in his first season he came back and muscled his way into becoming a key player. By signing a contract extension he also got us a little bit of cash when he didn't need to. I hope he goes on and does well although I'm not really sure if Fergie is the best manager for him.

Always find it odd he's never linked with jobs higher up the chain considering how many promotions he has but our manager does?
Working with Barry Fry would put me off

as we stand today i dont see a better squad in lge 1 than Bolton............We have basically recruited early
We did the same last season but our recruitment was dire.
Do i expect us to have the best squad in lge 1 come kick off.................Nope, but we have set the marker

I cannot see why we cannot finish top 10 at a minimum or Automatic at best.

Maybe other clubs see the bigger picture and don’t want to be linked or employ a convicted wife beater as a manager?

Sounds like we're signing George Dobson.

Genuinely can't remember even playing against him last season. Don't know if that's a good thing or not.

A fair few reports saying we are close to signing Aberdeen Centre back Tommie Hoban. From what I've read he sounds very highly rated by Aberdeen and Watford fans. At 27 he's a really good age, the only concern is his injury record. If he's over his injuries, we've potentially got a player who should be playing a level above.

Ipswich have signed Hladky, Harper etc. They’ll be better than us this season IMO. You’re right that we won’t have strongest squad on opening day (and I’m not convinced we do now either) but I’m happy with what we’ve done. Top half after promotion would be a really good season. Anything more is a bonus. Especially after where we were 6 months ago…20th in league 2. Just hope we don’t start the season like we did last year.
