Would love Walker back here, he'd have thrived under Appleton and the way we set-up, presuming we don't have the ££££ for him. Not sure about Marquis but is a bit of a replacement for Hopper, nice that the Cowley's will continue to pay a portion of his wages.
Agreed. Much prefer Walker however never fully seen Marquis in action. Pompey continuing to pay some of his wages is certainly the only way we would be able to afford him.

He did before, Marquis isn't a bad consolation prize.

Seems like Marquis will be a permanent 6 month deal which sounds about right and gives Hopper a bit of time to get fit. Pompey fans seem delighted to get rid, be interesting to see what MA can do with him. Shame about Walker but he'd would have been an expensive buy/loan. Marquis gets us until the end of the season where we can reassess, Cowley's cover partial wages and gives us a much needed number 9.

Unless we were selling Scully and Monstma couldn't see how we could afford Walker.

Marquis just never seemed to fit in Jackett's or Cowley's system. Couldn't fault his effort but it just never clicked for him up front. Our general lack of goals over the two and a half seasons has been testament to that.

Tyler Walker sounds good and obviously great news that the Cowleys have worked with him before. We desperately need some quality up front.

Can only echo Bar Carousel's feelings about managing to get rid of the three high salary misfits in this window. Good work overall but need at least one more striker in before the close I reckon.

Walker was only here for a short spell but his best football came under Appleton rather than Cowley. I've got nothing to back this up, but my hunch is that we've been interested in Walker, probably couldn't afford the wages and opted for Marquis on a short term deal instead.

You'd never turn down Walker but I actually think we're in need of someone like Marquis more than Walker. If it happens, then it'll be the closest we've got to a Hopper alternative since he's been here and we've been crying out for the last two years. It means we get a short term option of an experienced L1 player who can lead the line better than what we have at the minute and has a good goal scoring record at this level, too. We don't need to rush Hopper back either and it's a bit more experience at the top end of the pitch as well.

A firing on all cylinders Marquis doesn't end up here but it might be something that works well for both parties in the short term, and off the back of that, possibly beyond.

Makes sense to get it as a 6-month permanent to keep a loan space free for a defender that we're hoping to have in tomorrow.

Luton in for Walton now too. What happened to Hladky? He was brilliant last season for Salford.
Hladky has been a huge flop really. Looks one of the poorest keepers we’ve had in years. Maybe it’s a confidence thing. Who knows. Walton is a solid keeper, hope we get him

Rumoured to also have the fantastically named Brooke Norton-Cuffy coming in on loan from Arsenal.

Predominately a RB by the looks of it but can play anywhere across the back four if needed but only just turned 18, albeit been playing with Arsenal's U23's since he was 16/17.

Big ask for someone of that age to come in IMO. Must mean we're happy with Eyoma and Poole at CB and/or Walsh/Jackson are going to be back early next month.

With 3 loanees going today, it looks like we can finally finalise Connor Coventry coming in.
We are being decimated by recalls, Robson, Kioso and Martin gone and although Martin didn't play that much he was still avasilable on the bench. We need bodies in.

Marquis is a very streaky player. His goal to game ratio is about 1 in 3.5 ish. However he'll score 5 in 5 then not score for 10 games. For us he was caught offside more than he had shots on target this season. Dropped for George Hirst who up to his first goal was getting laughed at for being so awful. Marquis' touch is dreadful for a player that cost us £1m plus. One of those we were all really excited about, but just never got going. 3 years in we were still praying for a manager to get the best out of him. I have no doubt, the same as Harrison at Fleetwood that a move away from the pressures of playing for PFC will reignite what we saw for Doncaster.

If he scored 5 in the rest of the season I'll be pleased!
That's the difference.

Our fanbase would audibly groan with each missed chance. When he did score it often felt as if it had taken him to fluff three easier chances to put that one away. The weight of expectation was obvious given his record at Doncaster and the transfer fee and wages he was on. He worked his socks off but the final output was more often than not poor. For us he slowly morphed from a reputable goal scorer to a hard working forward with little end product. This season in particular was painful watching him huff and puff and struggle for long periods. A million miles away from the player we had signed off the back of his Doncaster form. I recently watched a youtube highlights clip showing all his goals for them. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Confident, skilful and lethal. It was like watching a completely different player from what we were used to.

I've no doubt that with the right set up and a fresh challenge that he will return to somewhere near his Doncaster form. He's got it in him. Always seemed a decent guy and wish him all the best at your place and beyond.

Conor Coventry in on loan. He didn't seem to pull up too many trees at Peterborough but I know little about him so........

Sounds like Danny Batth has chose Sunderland over Wednesday. Can’t say I blame him at the moment.

Jordan Storey then?

Storey would probably be fine, possibly even good at this level, hasn't featured under Lowe and we're signing another CB in Bambo Diaby as well.

Liability in the Championship and only looks competent in a back three with cover either side of him, so error prone in a back four. Just hasn't progressed from a 20yr old.

Decent recovery pace and good in the air but that's where my praise would stop.

Shame, he looked very promising early on and we forked out £750k on him.

Yeah he would be playing in a 3, were that desperate at the minute I’d take just about anyone that is naturally a centre half. Is he left footed? Moore is big on having a left footed centre back playing on the left hence why Marvin Johnson’s been playing there who’s never a defender as long as I’ve got a hole in my arse.

He's right footed but he has played on the left on occasion, not loads of times though.

Ipswich & Sunderland are supposedly interested in taking him on loan too.

That's 7 I think:

Charlie Colkett
Kion Etete
Reece Hutchinson
Ben Williams
Charlie Brown
Aaron Ramsey
Dan Nlundulu

We've lost 5. Dan Crowley, Kyle Joseph, Kyle Vassell, Christian Norton and Chris Hussey.

Now announced. Reasonably happy with that, most of your fans comments on Twitter echo what you’ve said about him.

It sounds like we're going to be spending the rest of January tidying up bits and pieces with no real priority to anything.

Sam Long, currently our young second 'keeper, will leave on loan to get some first team football if we can find someone to sit on the bench for the rest of the season.

Sean Roughan, another young'un who's part of the first team set up, will head out on loan as well to get a run of games after lots of niggly injuries over the last year or so.

We're looking to sign another attacker on a permanent but a one for the future type and we also haven't ruled out a 6th loan if it's a high quality option.

We've left Archibald at Orient on loan, I'm guessing we'll let York keep Longdon if they want him, a couple of youngster have gone on loan to Lincoln United and Melbourne is in limbo because he's played for us and Stevenage this season and isn't getting his contract renewed so can't really go anywhere because of the two club rule.

Can't imagine we'd want to sell Scully/McGrandles in January but if we do, that'll change things slightly.
