You have to ask yourself what the fuck was Wellens thinking when he loaned him out.

He's had a strange career. He looked a class above when with us. Granted we were absolutely terrible at this point so that offers little value in gauging his ability!

He wouldn't play ahead of Windass or Bannan

I just don't think he fitted into Wellens' system. Luckily for us he was superb at Newport and showed exactly how to utilise him, which we sort of did in League 1 when Twine 'shone' in what was a season of mainly merde. By the end of the season the damage was done and the rest is history.

Excellent! We'll keep him then!

Was this the same with Luongo out of interest? I wonder with Charlie Austin going to play in Australia if Mass might do the same.
No I think we wanted to keep Mass but his wages and injury record meant that his deal was on reduced terms, he'll either go down south or return home to Oz

Potential Twine replacement in the door.

Conor Grant joins from Rochdale. Seems to have rapidly improved since leaving Wednesday and is the perfect profile for our 'project'.

Then you'd have to ask yourself why he didn't build a team around him.

Forking out £6m on Twine & Ballard so can't be in too much of a bad place. Sold Pope for £10m, expecting to sell Collins for £30m, McNeil must be worth £15-£20m too.

They won't even need to touch the parachute money.

I was hoping they'd be in the shit but i can't see Kompany going there without being promised a nice budget.

Parachute money will be going towards the loan repayment triggered by relegation, won't it?

Hardly surprising. Did very well for us, technically very good with ball at feet, good shot stopper. Not amazing commanding his box due to his size but a handy enough keeper. Will be going to the world cup with Ghana.

That'll do with taking our players now pig.
How many has he signed now? Seems odd to sign a bunch of players to get promoted from L1 who couldn’t get promoted from L2..

Are you still in the running for the Ipswich striker now Garner has gone?

He was good at the start but became more and more anonymous on the pitch as the season went on to the point he hardly got off the bench at the end of his spell iirc. He was too lightweight in L1 with us but his technical ability was never in doubt. If he has sorted that out then he'd be a decent signing for somebody.

Supposedly, nice bail out money. Player sales will mean they have much more buying power than most of the league. They should call them spring board payments as they're only there to make sure teams bounce right back.

Looking at £8m-£9m just for Twine, Ballard, and the guy from your place.

We need about 8 players and we'll be lucky to spend £2m in transfer fees on the lot.

Just the 2 so far. Keeper Wollacott and RB Manny Egbo, both of whom we had offered contracts. (before Garner had left - or at least before it had been announced Garner was leaving) One of our coaches Scott Marshall has also gone to be his right hand man.

I'd love for us to sign Tyrese Simpson. Before the Scott Twine money was coming in I'd say not a hope we could pay 300k for him but potentially now we could. But there are some clubs higher up the food chain interested in him so can't see it happening. A journalist today said we are in talks with 2 players from premier league club(s), one for a loan striker and one a permanent striker so we'll see if that goes anywhere. I'm resigned for Tyrese to be playing league 1 ball next season if I'm brutally honest.

Yeah it’s not as bad as it sounds, possibly one more outfield player and Swindon fans themselves have said Egbo and Reed are better than L2.

Not exactly trying to get promoted with a L2 squad.

Their move for McNally seems on hold at the moment but obviously that could change. They'll have to pay around £2m+ add on/sell ons for McNally I reckon. McNally doesn't seem to be pushing either and is in Spain at our training camp.

I thought Jack Payne was one of the most disappointing signings we've made in recent seasons.

He came with a lot of promise, and was someone who'd always done well against us for Southend, in League Two. But he was a bit of a luxury player, and just didn't have any end product at all for us. It was becoming more and more difficult to fit him into our eleven and eventually he was a regular on the bench. He then went to Blackburn for half a season and played a bit, but I think, ended up at Bradford before Swindon.

I think League Two is his level.

I agree with the Oxford lot on Payne, we had him here in L1 and he's just not quite a good L1 standard IMO. Not saying he couldn't play in L1 but he'd be average.

Seems/seemed to have a habit of starting very well at Clubs and then dropping off and he did the same here. A very busy player, excellent work rate, but the amount of times he lost the ball and an attack broke down because of him was ridiculous. Not enough output from him for a player in his position.

Pompey close to signing Josh Griffiths on loan from WBA. Seems a decent GK from what I saw of him at Cheltenham and Lincoln.

I can't tell you how he did at Lincoln, but he was vastly overrated when at Cheltenham.

His mistakes are some of the worst I've ever seen from a keeper, but he was only 18 so you could understand them. He also really struggled to command his area, often being rooted to his line when he should come and collect a simple cross. People will tell you that he kept so many clean sheets, and other bs, but he had arguably our best ever defence in front of him.

All that being said, he did make some cracking saves, and you could definitely tell he had something about him. I'll be glad if Pompey do sign him because it'll stop our fans pining for him like some lovesick simpletons.
As above, really. He had a shaky first 5 or 6 games here but was fine after that and ended up being a good loan signing and an excellent shot stopper. Question marks here over the command of his area as well, which is a little surprising given his height (6'6"?), he's a big unit for his age. But we didn't have any particularly aerially dominant CB's so it was probably highlighted more.

This was probably one of his better games off the top of my head:

His downfall was he could only play in a number 10 role. He was totally incapable of playing anywhere else (Southend supporters mentioned this when he first signed).

I’ve no doubt he was a good player. We were absolutely hopeless under Clotet at the time and he is not the sort of player you want when struggling. Heck, he was playing behind Avon Mehmeti or Wes Thomas; it hardly screams goals!

He became anonymous when we stopped pressing and opposition realised how dreadful we were so Clotet stuck him out on the left wing for a bit. He was then omitted from the squad, things went eerily quiet and his loan got cut short in favour of a move to Blackburn. From what I gather he isn’t all that fond of OUFC!

I thought he looked the part in terms of his posture and body movement but with very little substance otherwise. Pretty anonymous against vale.

Rumour going around that we might be in for Nicky Cadden of FGR. Have always thought he was their best player when I've seen him play, so would be very pleased with that if we were to pull it off. I'd be amazed if we did like.

Doesn't seem to be at our preseason so we reckon he's off. Suspect he might be hoping for an upwards move so you may have to wait. Very good player but not as much as a loss as Wilson I think.

Very much doubt he’d be coming to us but such is the lack of anything at all being heard regards Vale people will be all over it. Brilliant player mind but suspect he’ll end up at say a Reading or someone like that.

Only thing that blotted his season for me was tailing off a bit and tending to dive rather than beat his man in the latter half of the season, and crossing got a bit wayward though of course he was more of a target for oppo attention by then.

This was my thought unless we've sold him the dream. We've got rid of Amoo who was one of our highest earners, plus Gibbons, so we should have a spare bit of coin. He might want to be top dog at a club rather than sitting on the bench in the championship. I'd guess he'll have some good offers though.
