Only thing that blotted his season for me was tailing off a bit and tending to dive rather than beat his man in the latter half of the season, and crossing got a bit wayward though of course he was more of a target for oppo attention by then.
To be honest I don't mind a bit of gamesmanship...it's something we don't do enough of...buy cheap free kicks.

If we got Cadden then I’d say we come out of the Gibbons situation very well, he’s one of the few in L2 better than him at full back.

Be surprised but you never know I guess.

Losing Cadden to Vale would be a huge loss, not sure everyone appreciates how hard it is to find top quality left wing backs at this level. That’s before you take out the amount of goal involvements he’s had in the past couple of seasons. His form dipped slightly like most of our team in the run in but overall he’s a superb player quite rightly in league 2 team of the year. 6 goals and 13 assists in 44 league 2 games last season is some going. In total 10 goals and 22 assists over the two seasons he’s been here, and that’s despite being injured for a number of games in 20/21.

Vale fans… did I make up that Dom Telford was on his way to you guys? He’s supposedly on our shortlist once we sell Twine.

He was rumoured but as mentioned he’s been hawked around most of L1 so naturally he has ended up at ahem Crawley…!

His downfall was he could only play in a number 10 role. He was totally incapable of playing anywhere else (Southend supporters mentioned this when he first signed).

I’ve no doubt he was a good player. We were absolutely hopeless under Clotet at the time and he is not the sort of player you want when struggling. Heck, he was playing behind Avon Mehmeti or Wes Thomas; it hardly screams goals!

He became anonymous when we stopped pressing and opposition realised how dreadful we were so Clotet stuck him out on the left wing for a bit. He was then omitted from the squad, things went eerily quiet and his loan got cut short in favour of a move to Blackburn. From what I gather he isn’t all that fond of OUFC!

Don't forget the mighty talents of GINO and the defensive agility and speed of Tiendalli.

Must have thrown mega money at him tbh. Would never pick them over Vale.

I'm kind of glad we've avoided that one now. Clearly one with zero ambition and just after a quick payday. Genuinely the only reason you would choose Crawley is the money. We want people who want to fight and progress with our club, not mercenaries. I don't blame him for following the money but it's not really a career move.

Bitcoin is tanking at the moment, so I can only see that ending in disaster on their crowds.

To be fair there’s no evidence he even was in talks or we approached bar rumours (same site links Mansfield with Theo Robinson).

As I said before the main concern is if he was a one season wonder (or half as he had a relatively poor second half)

Even if you or no other League One club was in for him, it would surely have been more ambitious to have just signed a new contract at Newport.

Was upset when we let him go.
Did very little wrong for Dale. Obviously talented, but also worked hard, and deserves his move up. Glad he's gone to MK, too - they have a reputation for selling players on for big bucks, so both Dale and Wednesday could get a cut if he blossoms there. Unless Wednesday get promoted (maybe more than once) and buy him back, which could end up complicated... :)

Yeah don’t get me wrong it’s an odd move but guess the NFT thing has offered him big money. Doesn’t really bode as the most stable set up but time will tell.

This brings back memories of Crawley signing the likes of Matt Tubbs back in the day.

I think we are two off being done if Wilks signs, given you can only name 25 man squads another CB and a winger.

A few rumours flying about saying we’re going to sign GK Nathan Bishop on loan from Man Utd. I’d be very pleased with that and I believe he impressed on loan at Mansfield last season.
I’ve seen we may be in for him too, no idea whether there’s any truth in it though.

Sheff Wed look strong. Attacking options of Gregory, Smith, Wilks, and Windass, plus a midfield of Bannan, Vaulks, and Byers.

That squad would be a bag of balls in the Championship, like, but plenty of players who know how to get out of this division.

Your post reminded of his short time with FGR. His glory days were in his distant past.
I'm not sure whether he ever started a league match but on his last game for club he scored, took off his shirt to celebrate by waving it around his head and suffered the indignity of a yellow card.

Good old Jon Parkin. Psyched out of a penalty by a kid in goal.

Dillon Phillips, on loan from Charlton, really thrust the ball into his chest. You could see how pissed off it got Parkin from where we were sat. He puts the ball on the spot, steps back a few steps then runs up and hits it as hard as he could, right over the bar. If the stand behind the goal wasn't in the way it would still be travelling now.

I suspect they'll piss the division next year if I'm honest. Playing in front of 25-30k at Hillsborough every week is an additional 15-20 points.

I loved Phillips. Genuinely couldn't recall a single mistake he made in his season with us. Probably up there as the best keeper I've ever seen in a Cheltenham shirt.

Class act was Parkin, had the ability to play in the Prem in his prime if he could be bothered with the conditioning side of the game.

Jon is still lauded at TNL. He once scored from the half way line but claimed he had scored better goals.
I listened to his blogs and he was more than extremely proud that when with PNE he scored a hat-trick against Leeds United [at Elland Road I believe]
He signed for FGR in the Conference when the club was known as moneybags. He said they offered him more money than others in the Football League.

Sadly cannot disagree.
The goalkeeper did good and completely psyched Jon out.
