I have to feel for FGR fans this season. You’ve been handicapped from the summer.

Seems to have been our number one target for the role since the summer. He initially accepted then rejected our offer (presumably offered better terms at FGR). There was talk of interest in Cambridge's DoF but that was quashed and we then abandoned our search to take a step back and review things.

Why do you think he has changed his mind now?

Agree with the post above in that after all the efforts to achieve league 1 status, you've effectively seen the club stripped apart piece by piece. Ultimately though, Dale is the key man there i guess.

The two respective starts to the season has to play a massive part!

But it's not like we couldn't see it coming. Inevitably, when a relatively small club like FGR does well the bigger clubs swoop for what they see as our biggest assets. The challenge is to make the whole club resilient enough to withstand these losses. That's not easy, but there are other clubs out there who show it is possible.

Does anyone know how far the anti "tapping up" rules stretch? Obviously it covers Manager/Head Coach and players, but does it also cover Sporting Directors etc? Are you allowed to secretly approach the kit man or tea lady and offer them a job?

We may get a fine I suppose but football is a dirty business and most clubs occasionally make moves like this, sadly.

It's a shame for Forest Green who have lost many of the components that brought them promotion last season. Hopefully they will ride it out.

I don't know how far the rules stretch, but I don't think Vince has ever wished someone the best in their new ventures without at least some form of dig at their new club.

DV famously does things "another way". Heaven forbid that anyone else should do so though

Supposedly we've been watching Sam Smith at Cambridge. Seems like proper bargain basement stuff.

Yeah one of many supposedly, he’s free in the summer which I’m sure they’ll be plenty of clubs after him, can’t see him signing a new contract with us.

I'm amazed at how well he's stepped up. When we had him on loan at the back end of our League 2 winning season he was clearly decent, but I wasn't disappointed when he picked Cambridge over us that summer.

Full credit to him though, he's been great since stepping up a level.

For me that’s why bonner is so good, he’s takes what I call average players and plays to their strengths and turns them into good players, smith for me was bang average before he signed, he’s never dropped nowadays( you watch him not start on Tuesday)

That doesn't fill me with hope if we do make a move. Sounds like he's currently playing above himself.

I'm surprised we didn't accept MK Don's offer in the summer but I can see us selling him in January if we are on our way to the magic 50 points.

I don’t really think you can be fussy pal, you’ve scored 3 goals in 11 games.

Yeah, wouldn't mind signing someone who could actually improve on that.

The guy scored 26 goals for Morecambe last season ffs. What more do you want?

Scoring goals at this level means absolutely nothing, look at that Bodvarsson bloke at Bolton. 5 in 69 for Millwall, and he's pretty much 1 in 3 down here.

I've watched Stockton on numerous occasions, not a chance he copes in the Championship. Even Jayden Stockley has more mobility.

No goals in 5 starts, supposedly thrown his toys out of the pram after Morecambe set an asking price that he thought was too high.

If he doesn't start scoring no one will come in for him whatever price they set. He needs to play as well. He should be starting every game and busting a gut. It's short memories in footy.
