As I posted over the road:

Class defender is Mattie - will head absolutely everything. Not got the most pace, and worked better in a 3 than as part of a 4. It's saying something though when I wouldn't want him back because we already have better.
That fits for us if McGuinness going back is confirmed.

Todd Kane and Tayo Edun too apparently.
Maybe a bit late to do anything meaningful this season now unless you go on a mad run. Need to hit the ground running next season. Holden is a great coach … needs to prove himself as a manager though.

Some rumours Luke McGee could be off. I wonder if a return to Portsmouth could be on the cards, or will they aim higher?
Zero chance of this. He was a disaster first time round here and has no links with our current regime. A League Two keeper at best, in my opinion.

Matty Pollock allegedly at our training ground yesterday…would be very pleased if we could get him in.

Seems like we are vying with Wednesday and possibly Blackpool over Pollock. I'm not sure what the defensive situation is at either of those, but I'll wager that they probably have more cover than we do, so he is more likely to play with us?

Bakayoko off to Forest Green.

Well liked at Bolton but unfortunately just not quite good enough.

Wish him well for the future, he should bag plenty in L2 next season.

Bakayoko looks a like for like replacement for Jamille Matt. Hopefully be better then him, he’s certainly younger so should be able to run about.

We seem to be signing a few players not good enough for other League 1 clubs, certainly according to fans of the clubs we’re getting them from in any case. Suppose if we go down some of these lads will do well in League 2 if nothing else.

Richard Hughes?
Err... oh yes. Apart from that one...

Still highly unlikely I reckon. He was a big hope for us when we signed him from Spurs on our return to League One in 2017. After a gaffe-laden series of performances we sent him packing. Has he improved much?

It would be a massively unpopular move if he walked back into Fratton.

That’s one thing he does do… he will run for you. He’s not actually a bad finisher either but for someone his size he just isn’t as physically good as he looks like he should be. He was always better as an impact player for us. Hope he does well. Given us some great memories with injury time equalisers and winners last season.

Thanks, tbf that sounds promising. What would suit our style is someone that can run the channels with enough physicality to handle themselves enough to not get bullied and get on the end of crosses but doesn’t necessarily need to be so physical they can play as a target man with their back to goal all the time, as we don’t really do that. It’s more through balls or balls over the top to chase. Sounds like he could fit into that.

In fact we have accepted a bid from St Pauli and 2 from the championship for Dapo. So looks like he has the choice of 3 clubs.

We’ve got 2 fit centre backs, both recently back after lay offs. Heneghan and Ihiekwe out long term and McGuinness has gone back to Cardiff.

We only need to be better than four other clubs...who may of course be seeking to improve their own squads...I'm not sure if the signings we have made so far will help achieve that but you have to admit the club are giving it a go!

Well we don't look as if we are. The only good news for us is the recall date for Cumming and Lawrence from Chelsea has passed.

Our goal difference, and number of goals conceded, speak for themselves. Not fair to lay all the blame for that on the keeper, of course (and McGee has been keeper in I think every league game this season, possibly one exception), as our defence has been unusually injury-struck, but he has undoubtedly made mistakes and missed shots he should have saved, far more than is acceptable. Silly mistakes have added up.

In League Two last season he seemed decent enough, and probably a cut above our other previous regular keeper, Lewis Thomas (who is capable but still seems to lack a certain confidence), but this season has shown up McGee's limitations.

Seen a rumour linking us to Jordan Williams at Barnsley. It'd be nice to get a permanent deal wrapped up among these loans. Don't know anything about him but we need competition at right wingback and he's a good age, with Championship experience.

Lowe had him on loan at Bury too, out of contract in the summer?

How’s Lawrence done for you this season? I think his contract at Chelsea is up in the summer so could be an option for us at RWB

Have you heard anything your end about Matt coming to us? a lot of rumours last night but nothing today apart from Tranmere have lost out.

Us signing Bakayoko is a pretty clear sign the Matt move is close to being done, we wanted a replacement through the door before he left. I expect he’ll be signing for you very shortly.

Pretty sure he’ll choose yourselves over Tranmere both geographically and obviously the Flynn connection.

TBH the reason I am pleased with the recall deadline passing is that Jamie Cumming will still be here as we would be fucked without him in goal. I don't think Lawrence is good enough for you going after promotion but then he's playing in a team that's utter shite at the moment. He's a bit marmite with our fans as well, some like him, some don't. He had a horrendous start to his time here but has improved since.

I would be stunned if he was off to a club above middle league 1/2 when his contract at Chelsea expires. He certainly won't be kept on by Chelsea.

Warne confirmed that we should have one in very soon, all but confirmed, but unsure whether it will be permanent or on loan. Another one is also progressing.

Another we were close, but he had a run out for his club in the FA Cup and did really well so we’ve been told he’s now not available.

Strange thing is that we have no idea who any of them are, literally no links to any players that haven’t been outright dismissed.

Sounds like it’s been a grind considering the restrictions, no surprise, but we have confirmed that we won’t be recalling Bielik but he will be returning in the summer. Assume it’s due to our wage cap and how it stops us from doing anything else, but who knows. Good news is that no one will be leaving so we won’t disrupt any continuity in that regard.

Looking jealously at all these signings happening. We've had 2 outs :

Daryl Horgan (winger) gone to Stevenage on loan, he's out of contract in the summer so I suspect that's the last we'll see of him. Not a bad player but doesn't really fit into our setup and is likely on Championship wages, so not worth keeping

Ali Al-Hamadi (CF) to AFC Wimbledon on a permanent - right move, never looked like he was going to cut it.

Ainsworth has said that it matters more to keep the players we have (and especially Anis Mehmeti our leading scorer) than to make new acquisitions, but that funding is available and we may look to have "1 or 2" coming in. But I wouldn't bank on it.
