We sort of messed up his development last year with the Burton loan. Loaned to them just before they sacked Hasselbaink, new manager didn’t fancy him and because he made a sub app in our first game of the season before the Burton loan he couldn’t go out again to another club. Frustrating season for him after what looked quite a promising pre season period.

He’s not really played for us but when he has it’s actually been as a RWB, and not in central midfield which is what he was billed as. He looks tidy enough and at right wing back demonstrated he’s got a decent delivery on him. Can’t tell you too much more though as he’s rarely played.
Appreciate that comment, gives a good insight thank you!

Pleased to have Tyler Walker back at SB. We know him and he knows us. He was great for us when on loan. Since he left us, he hasn't really settled anywhere so returning to a familiar place will do him wonders.
It will be interesting to see how he does. Nothing short of a disaster for us during his half-season stay back in 2022. Paid him big wages only to see him hiding on the pitch and barely touch the ball.

There's a chance that the problem wasn't him but the Cowleys' style of play? He'll probably bag a brace against us when we play you.

Harry Boyes arrives at LB on loan from Sheffield United. Recently on loan at FGR (gulp) and Lincoln City.

Additionally, our local rag says we're still sniffing around Sam Smith.

A bit 'meh' IMO. His best performance was away at Wednesday, which probably isn't too surprising given where he was on loan from. Probably file under relatively solid if unspectacular - didn't stand out here but didn't let us down either when he played.

Not sure where this poster on Gasroom has been looking, but it's not how I would describe Boyes and no-one's even mentioned it on the main Lincoln forum yet!

"A hive of info on the Lincoln forums about Boyes. Apparently a superb defender and engine, loves to get forward but needs to work on his crossing. The vast majority of the Lincoln fans wanted to sign him."

In the league he scored 4 in 6 under Cowley and 8 in 20 under Appleton but it was definitely with the latter he played his best football for us so in that respect, it'll be interesting to see how Kennedy gets a tune out of him because although I think Kennedy initially wanted to play more like Appleton, I think he's settled at being less attacking and more defensively solid.

Walker is a player who needs chances in and around the box, not someone who'll score out of nothing so we need to significantly improve our chance creation next season for him to score the amount of goals we know he's capable of.

Jordan Cousins in on a one year deal. We are certainly going down the experienced route this season after last year being down the bottom. Another leader to add to the squad already in place.

What's he like Wigan/Charlton fans?

Yes, their embargo got lifted today.
And already announced a signing too. Harvey Knibbs on a 3 year deal.

Very good worker, and a player that all the managers and coaches he's been under seem to love. Statistically not the greatest, and was hoping for more from him last season to be honest. However he's played a big role in the Bonner era and had a lot of interest from Championship clubs, so Reading have done well to get him. I imagine the security of a 3 year deal has helped.

Feel like this next stage in his career is a pretty major one, so good luck to him.

Got mates who are wigan supporters and the report isn’t glowing I’m afraid as was always injured!

What with Thomas and fejiri hardly having a good track record I’m slightly worried about the coming season.

To get these type of players in (Thomas and Cousins) we have to take risks. Ultimately they're playing for us in this league because of their injury record.

If we can get them both back fit and playing we have two very good players who can play higher.

The problem I have after last season's issues is if we are continuing taking risks on players with history of injuries or struggle with consistent minutes is that we should then look to have a bigger squad to cover that risk, and I'm not sure Bonner will want a big squad or if we can afford it?

May is obviously due back, but is still missing so far in preseason so I can't see it being a quick return. I don't want us to be in a situation where we have to rely on an inadequate Lewis Simper. Unless we think one of the kids is ready to step up then we need another midfielder, and about 3 attackers or 2 very versatile ones.

First day the embargo is lifted and you sign someone on a three year deal. And I believe they still have a date with HMRC next month.
Genuinely can't make this stuff up

Was the best player on the park when wigan hammered us 4-0 a couple of seasons back

Ah, the Karl Robinson argument for squad building.

It's happened with a few clubs in this league. Break the rules, write it off with a slap on the wrist and start over. Meanwhile, the clubs actually trying to do things properly can't compete for signings. The whole thing stinks.

Set to loan Kofi Balmer from Palace according to Alan Nixon. Know little of him but apparently he’s mainly a centre back but can fill in either fullback position also. Crosby probably knows him from his time working with the NI U21’s.

Kane Vincent-Young signs at full-back (can play either on the right or left) from Ipswich, our second Ipswich castoff of the summer (manager Matt Bloomfield used to coach their kids in his days off from Wycombe so I guess knows the Ipswich setup).

Yeah guess he is coming in to replace Forrester, unlike us to venture far from Oxford or Forest for our loans!

To be fair the times we did with West Ham for Mipo and Southampton for Small left a lot to be desired as indeed has most of our use of the loan market generally last season. Hopefully can carry less injuries at the back this year and he won’t get put into the situation Aaron Donnelly was forced into last year.

He’s achingly mediocre. Decent bordering on good going forward and a liability at the back. Had a bad injury a couple of years ago and never recovered his previous form. He’ll do a job but I doubt there’ll be too many Town fans fussed about him leaving. Nice kid, though.

I’m guessing you saw him with Col U?

Actually the Ipswich fans are more positive about him than you suggest (admittedly on a limited sample), but the “spent a long time out broken” is a concern as you say - we already have enough of those.

You have to realise just how far behind other clubs on wages we are. We were 23rd last season, only Accrington below us. We simply can’t pay more than £3k per week so we’re confined to players not good enough, players who are old and been cast aside by others, youth players, those with a history of injuries etc. It’s a really tough ask for the club to find anyone who can be close to good enough for the division.

Fantastic signing for you. I was disappointed when I saw he was leaving personally. Should do a great job in league one. Not saying he’s the complete article but he’s a very good player in this league. Won’t ever forget when he ran almost the whole pitch to score. He did have a bad injury but I think he just needs a run of games to get his confidence back, which he wasn’t going to get with us.

From that, it reads like Cambridge have followed us down the dangerous path of taking risk on better quality players who you can't keep on the pitch. After the last two seasons, we've moved away from that though with Walsh being released this summer, Bridcutt the season before and I suspect we'll be looking to move Bishop on as well.

One of the first things Kennedy mentioned was availability of players, or lack of in some players.

After Tuesday's friendly at Kings Lynn, Kennedy basically said that Adelakun is transfer listed and doesn't have a future here, which is no surprise.

Seemed a little more coy on Bishop, not quite committing either way on him just that he needed more training time and was visibly frustrated by that so, as above, it wouldn't be a shock if he departed before the end of the transfer window either.

We went down the mix of youth and players making the step up from league two and it didn't work once the injuries hit. This time if the injuries hit we'll have certain players on back up who were starting last season.

We brought in experience in Jan - Morisson, Ryan Bennett and McGrandles and it transformed us. It's a bit if but if we keep certain players fit we'll be absolutely fine.

Dan Butterworth in from Blackburn on a 2 year deal.

Have to say I know F all about him.
Maybe Port Vale fans can shed some light.
