Signed regan Poole. Ex Lincoln player. Thought he was a RB but we have announced him as a CB.

Depends on formation, I’d guess. A right sided centre back in a three, a right back in a four?

He’s a good defender, not much of an attacker. Good signing - Portsmouth should be well placed for a promotion push this season!

He was League Two POTY wasn’t he, sure I read that?

It’s just been announced. Happy with that - I hadn’t realised he was so highly rated at WBA and within the England set up at once upon of time. He seems like an ideal signing for us given the system.

I believe this is actually the first player we’ve spent a fee on in four years too - although Rotherham will receive a fee for Washington if we win promotion.
Like I said, decent in a poor L2 but, as we have found, out some players dont make the step up. Not saying kane won't be good but he is untested in this league and on the back of a season injured

Unfortunately it does look like he’s going to Tourist FC. Shame as he’s been one of my favourite ever players to play for us but if he joins them lot he can get fucked. Hope he’s a huge disaster for them!
We said that when he fucked us off for yourselves. He would get a LB spot for us but wouldn't get into our midfield right now so I'd pass on him and let deadpool fill his boots

There’s a big difference though, at the time of leaving Rovers for us was when you had just been relegated from League 1 and about to start the new season in League 2. Plus there’s over 100 miles that separate us.

Leahy leaving us now would not only be leaving an established League 1 club for a newly promoted League 2 club, but Wrexham are also historically one of our biggest rivals. I’m aware that they’ve got plenty of cash to spend but Leahy is so much better than League 2 football. Would have no issue with him moving to a bigger League 1 club but Wrexham. Fuck me.

Leahy has only played a handful of games for us at LB/LWB and he’s terrible there. Cotterill converted him into a a box to box CM and he’s thrived in that position. Our midfield is certainly our strongest department with Leahy, Bayliss, Winchester and Shipley. Needs more strength in depth though and will need another big name to replace Leahy.

You guys are building up a pool of ex Imps who we could no longer afford!

A wholehearted player who never let us down. Slightly surprised he's back in L1 as the noises were that he was going to have a crack at the Championship. Can play RWB but his best performances for us and his favoured position was RCB in a back 5. I think staying in L1 is the right call for Regan, I have doubts as to whether he could make the step up, so attempting to make the step-up for a club in L1 makes sense. Not the most athletic but he actually enjoys defending and isn't bad at all in bringing the ball out of the backline.

Pompey have really flexed their financial muscles this summer. Like the McGrandles move to Charlton last summer, this highlights the two financial leagues in L1 .

Lashers losing Yates for £2.5m, instead of the £4m minimum they claimed he was worth.

Presume Rotherham will get a 20% chunk of the profit.

Happy with Regan Poole. Seems to be a solid player who was expected to play in the Championship. Could do with a statement attacking signing and i’ll be pretty happy.

Poole to Pompey is very disappointing - not because of where he's gone, Pompey are obviously a bigger Club than us, but he's been consistent over 6-12 months of wanting to get a Championship move.

In that respect my theory is that either a) he didn't have the offers he thought he'd get, which might explain why it's nearly mid-July and has only just signed for someone and/or b) he's had assurances that if he plays week in, week out at L1 level then he'll still get a Wales call-up because that was one of his reasons for wanting a Championship move (probably looked at Morrell's situation). I suspect he's also looked at the likes of Scully, Morrell, Edun etc who've moved up to the Championship after spells with us and seen their careers stall/not quite been good enough and has played it safe.

He doesn't like playing at a RWB/RB so I wouldn't be expecting to see him play there, his strongest position is RCB in a three (I thought he played better in a three than a two anyway with some cover around him).

This is what I said about him a few weeks back when he was linked to Wednesday:

No-one will say a bad word about Regan - never injured, always gives 100%, happy to get kicked in the head and throw himself into tackles, a good defender and a nice guy as well.

It'll be interesting to see how he gets on in the Championship because his attributes would suggest he's capable of playing at the level. He's not the tallest but has a good spring on him and is a front foot, aggressive (in the sense of attacking the ball) defender, so that's not a problem. Where he might get caught out is his lack of genuine pace. He's not slow, but at Championship level I'm not sure whether he'll get caught out or not by that (he played here mainly in a three but can play RB). Not sure I'd class him as a ball playing CB either but he's not bad on the ball.

He's still fairly young anyway, 24, and plenty of experience and game time behind him (125 or so in 2½ seasons for us) so plenty of time to develop further.

Even if it doesn't work out, he's a good L1 defender so a pretty risk free out of contract signing because someone will buy him. Similar to how I viewed Scully to Wigan last season (albeit they paid for him).

Seems quite a coup for us to land him.

Reading reports that he was all set to join Sheff Weds before Moore left. For whatever reason it doesn't seem like there had been much interest in him from other Championship clubs. I wonder if he needed a better agent.

Seems like our gain though. Imagine that'll put to bed any thoughts of signing Bernard permanently, but this seems like a great alternative. I can't see him playing as a full back. It is probably our strongest position already with Rafferty and Swanson battling it out. I'd expect him to go RCB and Ragett to drop down to understudy for him and Towler.

We've Liam Smith on trial. A rwb who's played for a number of clubs in Scotland - most notably Dundee United.

OK, well this one's enough for me to quit bitching and moaning for at least a couple of minutes.

Man City midfielder Kian Breckin arrives on a season-long loan.

If a bunch of Prem clubs were interested in signing him permanently (and of course the below article could be bullshit, it's the Sun after all) then I have no idea what the hell he's doing with us, but I look forward to finding out.

It does seem like a combination of reasons contributed to us landing Regan Poole. We were pursuing Di'shon Bernard from Man United but that didn't seem to be happening, and Poole was looking towards the Championship but that didn't seem to be happening either.

Very pleased with this one though. We definitely seem to be tempting players with better contracts at the moment.

We've signed ex Cardiff forward Mark Harris on a long term deal. I know he is meant to be fast and he doesn't have a particularly good scoring record but other than that I know little about him.

A shame to still see him in League 1, but he'll have a crack at promotion with yourselves and I wish him every success. A great player, happy to put his body on the line, a real favourite

Having witnessed first hand our match at your place the only thing you seen to be missing was something who could score. ODonkor run as ragged but couldn't hit a barn door. Manning needs to get in someone who can consistantly gets shots on target. No good having another forward who can run fast but can't score, otherwise you'll be in the same situation again next season

I think O'Donkor just needs a few goals to get the belief going as he has everything else. He can properly finish as well based on what I've seen of him in the youth set up so I think it will come.

Agreed that was a real problem last year so we will be looking for a goal scoring forward but then everybody is looking for one of them unfortunately. I'd happily have Kyle Joseph back as I think he'd improve again and he was looking a different player up top under Manning at the end of the season. He is also effective wide right so could play there. Even if we got KJ, we'd need another out and out forward I think

After releasing Elliot Bennett last month, we’ve now resigned him on a one year deal. No idea what’s happening with us at the minute.

Was Karl Robinson genuinely that bad towards him???

Dan is a top bloke and was a credit to our club. Can't fault his effort or attitude. It actually astounds me that he was so poorly treated as I can't see why he would deserve that...
To be honest, I was being kind...

Yes. It was bad.

We had Harris on loan about four years ago so a very different part of his career. Seemed a player with a decent workrate and can play through the middle and out wide. Never really looked like threatening a goal himself and that’s played out with his record since but lots of experience now at a higher level.

We have Taylor Perry on trial but face competition from other League 1 clubs. Also rejected a bid from Wycombe for Luke Leahy apparently.

Luke Leahy is going to Wycombe. Will be announced either tonight or tomorrow. 100-120k the fee is.

Shame we’re losing one of our best players to a smaller club in our division but that’s football, it happens. He’ll do well if they play him in CM not so well if he’s at LB.

Great, lots of good signings by others and we seemed to have been linked with most of them.
When is it appropriate to panic?

I don't want to alarm you, but disrupted summers like this usually only lead one way. Why would you re-sign somebody that was not deemed good enough a month ago?

Apparently Cotterill & Wilbraham decided to release Bennett which is just bizarre as they knew they were leaving at the end of the season. We’ve had worse players, Bennett is good enough for us to reach midtable but I personally wouldn’t accept that. We need better to push for the play offs so hopefully he won’t be first choice as we’ve said we need another RWB to join.

I’m gutted to lose Leahy this evening. That one is frustrating. I’m far from worried as like I said before, no chance are we going down. We’ll be midtable but that’s not progress for me. I’ll really panic if we lose Bayliss or Udoh. Marosi will most likely be next and we’ll certainly struggle to replace him as he’s one of if not the best GK in this division.

We need to sign a lot of new players. I’m happy with Feeney & Winchester coming in but we need plenty more of that calibre.

We apparently have Marley Watkins on trial/training with us. No problem with having a look but on paper, his recent years hardly set the pulse racing.

We are chronically short in both departments (CB and LB) but I suspect he's been signed as the former.

Understandable that Shrews fans would be highly unimpressed to lose him to us, but I guess at least you get ££ out of it.

Seems like a good signing on paper although I'm not that familiar with him.
