And the award for most obscure trialist of the season goes to:

Roussel Ngankam, a 21-year-old Cameroonian winger/forward who last played for FC Botosani in the Romanian first division. He was recently on trial with German side SV Wehen Wiesbaden.

P.S - Dion's Head evaded capture as I was too busy watching our fans sing Bob Marley songs to a Rastafarian steward.

So Pope breaking multiple club records and firing us to promotion wasn't excelling in the Vale shirt?

Hardly got an England cap or a move to a big club though did he? He'll therefore always be renowned for his achievements in the lower reaches of the Football League with a small unfashionable English club.

I would say players that excel are ones that go onto bigger and better things rather than have a phenomenal season in the fourth division and then scraping double figures in the next two in the third division before leaving for another unfashionable third division club.

I didn't say that they had, I said they excelled for Port Vale. I couldn't care less where they come from or what level they end up at, I care about what they do for PVFC. The players mentioned did very well for us.

If we wanted him that badly we'd have signed him up by now. However a crap first touch, godawful finishing and the fact we ended up having a one dimensional game plan of hoofing the ball up to him during our disastrous end of season run-in has meant we're looking elsewhere. No surprise for the final few games of the season he wasn't even a starter.

When Uche had confidence he was still a bag of shite, his only use being that due to his frame he was such a threat to bog standard League One defenders it allowed Nicky Ajose to prosper, soon as Uche goes Donny Ajose gets exposed for the limited striker he is too.

Looking elsewhere

Have you even signed anybody yet? Christ, you're making out as though quality strikers are lining up to sign for you!

Also noticed that your academy doesn't seem to be churning out the gems it used to. Been a few seasons since you got decent money for a youngster.

Maybe Dario scared all the good ones off!

You do realise that before we sold Powell in 2012, the last player we sold for £1m+ was Nicky Maynard in 2008. Before that, Dean Ashton in 2005. But we also make up our money on smaller transfers. Max Clayton for £300k plus add ons only 12 months ago, so it hasn't been that long. Daniel Trickett-Smith to Liverpool for £300k plus add ons, Murphy and Westwood both went for either £1m or just shy of it. Colclough will command a 6 figure fee is he ups and leaves. Pope and Occy went for reasonable fees, Vaughan for £300k. All that in the last 10 years, plus a few others I've no doubt missed.

Yeah, it seems like ages since we produced a big money player, but thats how it goes with us. Still a far better success rate than a lot of other youth systems in this country, both of our Cat 2 level or bigger. No academy of our size can produce £500k+ players on a yearly basis, just not possible. Our academy is just fine given that they made the U18s development league final in the 13-14 season, losing on penalties to Charlton. That group also made the 4th round of the FA Youth Cup that year. Then last year, the U18s made the quarter finals of that tournament, beating some category 1 academies like Fulham, Bolton and Arsenal along the way.

Don't you worry about us, we're in rude health in the youth ranks. Just in the seniors that we are being mismanaged.

Donny fans, what was Fabien Robert like for you on loan? Was impressed with him yesterday as a triallist.

It's alright you just keep on trying to reunite the worst Crewe side we've had in my 14/15 years of watching us. There's a reason those players aren't at Crewe anymore, they weren't good enough. We could've kept any one of them if we were serious about it: Byron was offered one year out of respect to his service for the club, if he was any good he'd have got two. Occy was sold for indiscipline, Grant, Ajay, Daniel, Yates were all released because the latter three were absolute horseshit and the former didn't feature in our plans for a new look midfield this season given his lack of positional discipline and the fact he gave the ball away too many times. Uche is an aberration of a footballer and it'll be a laugh when you're all on Praise and Grumble wondering why a professional footballer like him can't trap a bag of wind in a few months time.

If we were signing Port Vale cast offs I'd be embarrassed. I like Grant and Occy obviously has talent despite his bad attitude but the other five should be way below this level of football.

Would be hilarious if we beat Crewe with a team of their utterly wank cast-offs.
