Dan Potts joins the ever growing list of ex Luton players at Charlton. LCB felt like a position to get an extra bit of cover for so makes sense

He’s a steady sort, definitely a LCB of a 3 and not a 2 though. He was originally a fullback but he doesn’t have the attacking dynamic to his game so was gradually phased out there and became a rotational centre half for us.

Was cover at LCB for a number of seasons but had the annoying habit of always being slightly injured when needed at times. Not tall but he’s got a great leap on him and a real threat from set pieces, almost got double figures in league 2 one season for us. Nailed his penalty at Wembley despite being a bit part player in the game and hes got the leadership skills NJ loves.

Definitely hoping you lot do well this year with the ex Hatters contingent now.

Cover for LCB is exactly what we needed so sounds like the right move to bring him in.

Sounds like we will be adding to the contingent with Hylton set to sign too. Seems a bit unnecessary given we have good options at striker but we will see

People with have a pop at us for this and fair enough, but it reeks to high heavens of jealousy. Nothing more nothing less, nobody gave a toss when our previous owners ran us into the ground... now everyone seems to have an opinion, funny that.
Just caught up with this thread after being out of the country, but this post from Dave is 100% a mirror-image of what we've been through at Wxm - worse for us if anything, bc we've REALLY been in the wilderness, whereas Brum have at least...still been in the big leagues (but balanced by the fact they're a bigger, but under-achieving club)

Whenever a club - other than your own - finally gets a stroke of luck, they are fair game for abuse and vitriol by some (but not all) of the other fans you're now mixing it with. Jealousy - it's understandable, but not a nice thing.

We all know Brum are too big for this league and I hope this forward-thinking by their owners pays off for them.

That one seems a bit much, Hylton is passed it as a player and has been since pre Covid imo. He’s probably going to be more of a coach I’d assume rather than actually playing I’d hope anyway!

Obviously people are jealous, Birmingham have assembled the most ridiculous squad league one has ever seen and as a result people will enjoy it every time they drop points. No club is too big for this League and I hate that line of reasoning. Birmingham are rightfully in this league because they weren't good enough last season. If Birmingham want to spend £30 million and can afford to spend £30 million on players good for them, but fans of teams in the league are always going to be frustrated by it as it is anti competitive. We are literally talking about a team spending 30x more than the second largest spenders and those second largest spenders only managed that due to a sale to Birmingham :bg:

I agree on the point about no one caring when the owners ran them into the ground though, that is hypocritical but fans are always likely to be against teams that just buy their way to a title.

This is why a lot of people were rooting for Luton Town last season. They did it without spending the many millions others have (and like our neighbours, failed), and that was a massive achievement to get from non league to the prem league in such a short space of time.
Birmingham like Ipswich basically have a season of prep for the Championship.
Fair play to any club who has the money to spend but there is no skill involved in doing it in L1 and L2 as money generally = promotion
Then said club cries for sympathy when it all goes tits up

Spending so much brings it's own pressure.

Keeping so many good players (probably with with big egos to match) happy will be a big test for an in-experienced manager.
Paying big, big wages for this division will help but most players are not happy when they are out of the team.

They will also find that all the teams will be busting a gut against them, hoping to come away with a result and let's face it a point will be a good result.
Managers have their team talk written for them already and they will all be pretty much the same rhetoric.

If, as expected Birmingham do win the league, they will have earned it because every other team is desperate for them to fall on their arses.
I want to see my team giving everything against them and I'm sure everyone else will want the same from their team

Anything other than being champions is relative failure, lets see how they live up to the hype.

Big crowds, big players, and big spending brings big expectations, if they cope with it all they will deserve it.

It can also be argued that spending BIG doesn't always equal sucess [cough....] Chelsea... but it certainly helps!
Even more-so at our level! So I think Brum's obvious quality will easily take them up this year.

Parky has a no-knobhead policy at Wxm that has served us well so far. Any new signings MUST be able to be humble & wait their chance and be a part of the squad. The season is long and ALL will important members of it.

Birmingham! Small fry.

Being reliably reported we paid over 2 billion for Tanimu. 2 billion Tanzanian schillings. :)

Tell you what though, Our Jimmy Mac is one hell of a nice chap face to face. Fair play to him. His mrs was nice too when we were talking to her in a taxi rank at the end of last season.

I’m sorry but McClean is a knobhead of the biggest magnitude.
A phenomenal statement to make from a club that’s signed James McClean and made him captain

The above is what I wrote ages ago but forgot to post. To be fair knobhead is way too soft for someone who at the very least sympathises with terrorists.

I've got no problem with McCleans views. And not just because he plays for us- I've always felt that criticism of him went too far. It's not that hard to imagine someone from Derry would feel a certain way against the British.

Don't really care about McLean's views, I just think he's an attention seeking wanker

A few members of our squad have shared sentiments that were later echoed by Billy Sharp

I’m sorry but McClean is a knobhead of the biggest magnitude.

I remember seeing an interview years ago when there was this huge outcry about him not wearing a poppy.

He was giving his reasons on why he won't wear one with his Derry connections, Bloody Sunday etc. I thought to myself, 'You know what? That's fair enough for me...'

I'm British - yes I'm Welsh, but still proud to be a Brit, despite the mess we're turning this country into these days!

The knobhead title he's got is probably because he gives the shitloads of stick he gets from opposition fans, back in spades whenever he can...and even before he came to our place, I used to find it great - coz that's exactly what I, and 99% of people would do too. As Pilot said, off the pitch he's a different person; nice & polite and a proper family man.

He's a massive wind up artist. I can see why people wouldn't like him for that, but the IRA stuff that gets levelled at him is completely misjudged imo.

I don’t care about him not wearing a poppy not even crossed my mind, I have no issue with his reasons for not doing so, but like I say he’s at the very least sympathetic towards terrorists and I’m probably being kind with that.

The bloke likes dress up like a member of the IRA, he’s been happy in the past to flaunt it.

8 of what would be regarded as our first choice 11 were with us in the National League as well.

We assembled a squad down there that could take us all the way to competing in L1 and it looks like that initial outlay has served us well so far.

Fair play. We did the same when we came up from the national league, although we didnt really spend anything.
We would have finished higher than 10th in our first season back in L1 too if Matty Taylor hadn't slithered off to our neighbours. Might have even got in the play offs

The side we built in the conference took us to 10th place in league 1. If we hadn't sold our strikers who knows?

Sold them for over £2 million

Looking like Freddie Ladapo is coming in on a free, we need another striker due to how injury prone our current lot are and missing out on Alfie May/Joe Taylor , don’t know much about it him.
