Michael Jacobs has signed a new contract with us, which is great news. Not sure about the details. We originally offered him a pay-per-game type deal. If that's what he's agreed to then I'm surprised but happy.

Yeah that's generally the sort of signing we go for, players with potential looking to prove themselves higher up. He's 25 so probably a case of now or never if he wants to make it at this level so he should be pretty motivated.
I'm really enjoying this new tack in recruitment, especially as it does seem to be delivering the goods in lower league gems unearthed, such a contrast to chucking money at been around the block names in those conference seasons. Of course, few might not work out but long term it's got to be the way for a club our size.

I think your recruitment model is spot on. I think it's what we're trying to replicate and where teams like Bradford and Salford have failed. They basically sign 'names ' and throw them together and hope for the best.

I am expecting us to sign a player from a Scottish club this summer, as we did with Hendry last summer and Cadden the one before, as it seems we have some sort of scouting arrangement there...whatever is being done it seems to be working.

Notts fans seem to credit Burchnall with improving a lot of their players even if they didn't think much of his tactics in that league, so could be a good fit even with non-marquee signings. Thought whether he has RE's ability to get a tune out of them remains to be seen.

Finally got Josh Vela over the finishing line, he looks a more than useful player and will certainly be an asset to the squad. Any Salop fans out there, whats your view on him ?

Forest Green recruitment is similar to ours.

Taking punts on lower league players or looking at players with something to prove.

Mullin - out of favour with Tranmere.
Digby - out of favour with Stevenage.
Iredale - Carlisle fans laughed when we signed him.
May - couldn’t get a kick for Pompey.
Ironside - Macclesfield fans said he only scored pens.
Hannant - Limited player at Port Vale.
Williams - Bristol Rovers fans said he was shit.

Throw in one of the best managers in the league and he manages to get an extra 20% and get them all pulling in the same direction.

I'm amazed how you got a tune out of Hannant. He was ok for us but was the definition of average. I expected him to go into non league but shows what I know!

Hannant was a hard worker although have to be fair he was in an Aspin side which was set up extremely negatively so have to factor that in.

A lot are/were moving in that direction (we certainly were) and then sped up by Covid. Seems to be in the in thing now.

I think we had the lowest average XI last season at 22.7 or something daft (admittedly more by necessity at times).

Morecambe fans, any idea where Aaron Wildig is set for? Said he wants to be closer to his family, that wouldn't be in the south west would it?

Billy Bodin signs a new 2 year contract with us. Happy with this. He was very in the 2nd half of the season playing as a 10.

Limited quality but a good egg in the dressing room but worked his socks off out wide.

His shithousery won us so many free kicks which we scored from, including the first goal on the final day of the season to win promotion. I can't believe he didn't sign his new deal and went to Colchester.

He signed for Newport a few days ago

It's a good move for him, can still play at League 1 level imo, I'm gutted he's left to be honest but family obviously comes first.

Wildig had an injury hit season but him coming back into the squad near the end of the season was a big factor in us staying up. Very tidy player, keep him fit and play him in the right role, he'll get you goals.

I was aware he has family in the south west so was thinking Bristol Rovers, Us or FGR.

Sold Theo Archibald to Orient.

Weird one because we seemed to track him for a while but he only played 12 times in two years here so we didn't really see enough of him to know whether he'd be ok in L1.

Nah, he's a very good keeper at this level - co-winner of the Golden Glove last season and kept us in games several times.

I'm not devastated if he goes as I imagine SWFC can offer way more £££ than we can, and I feel there's a lot of decent keepers out there, but he's definitely better than average and would be a good signing for you.

I've just never rated or liked the bloke throughout his career, there's always a rick bubbling under the surface for me.

Rumour that Jack Tucker has left the club and signed for someone in League One.

Good defender but does make errors. Still young though.

Gosh -- I remember watching you when you had the England goalie Ron Springett. Wednesday really need to get back up the divisions .
