Had a bid rejected for Harvey Knibbs from Cambridge.
We rejected a bid from Pompey in the summer. Any idea how much?

If we weren’t down to bare bones and the bid was a fair price I’d take it. I just don’t see what all the fuss is about with him. Works hard but not technically great.

Yes I’m surprised about that, not championship quality at all.

We’ve also made a 200k bid for Dan Nlundulu. Can’t say I know enough about him. Any good Cheltenham fans?

Evatt and Bolton trying to fix the problem of the manager not being as good as he or the fans think by chucking coin around like last January

It’s two Januarys on the trot already actually, they did it in the year we both came up from League 2. They usually get about a third of their points in the first four months, sign ten players in January and get the other two thirds of their points in the last four months.

One season it won’t work!

“Manager spends money in transfer window to improve team”. I mean what manager has ever done that?

You are paying Michael Smith per year what we have spent on fees in the last year. And Bannan more than that. We pay small fees for players we believe have a sell on value and pay lower wages to counteract that. They are also heavily performance based with add ons for promotion, appearances etc. Hardly chucking coin around. They’re investments. They were also the first fees we’d paid for a player since 2015. Whilst you haven’t really paid fees you probably have the biggest wage bill in the league. In terms of overall playing budget for the league we are about where we should be. Yourselves, Ipswich, Derby all have bigger budgets than us. And just for clarity we are also moving at least 2/3 players on too.

We’ve confirmed that there is no recall option for Trafford loan so he won’t be leaving in Jan. Thank god for that!

That alone should guarantee playoffs for Bolton. Nailing down that position is that important.

He's spending money correcting his own mistakes.

How do you know what Bannan and Smith are on? You don't you just make blasé assumptions.

Evatt isn't the messiah some of you lot think he is, he's actually fucking bang average.

We didn’t pay any fees in Jan whilst in league 2 to be fair. It was mainly loans in that Jan. We didn’t really have any players from league 1 relegation season and our director of football panicked and brought in a lot of crap. He was then sacked just before January and Evatt was given control of the football side. He made the changes in that Jan and brought in his own players. Since then the recruitment has been pretty good.

As you make blasé assumptions that Evatt is correcting his own mistakes. Do you think you go from a league 2 club out of admin to walking league 1 with a smaller budget than your rivals in 2 seasons… it’s a constant evolution transfer window to transfer window as we can attract better players. You came down from the championship with better players and a bigger budget yet he’s closed the gap on you hasn’t he. And no one claims he is the messiah. We just back our manager and support him. He’s not perfect but wears his heart on his sleeve and is passionate for our club. He’s better than a lot of managers we’ve had in recent years.

Smith turned down a contract to become Rotherham’s highest paid player ever. Then drops a division to sign for you. You don’t drop a division unless it’s for more money or for location. As Rotherham is less than 10 miles from Sheffield id make the blasé assumption that it was for more money. There’s also reports from national newspapers with total wage bills etc.

He was a donkey here but seems to have fared a little better at Cheltenham.

Does not normally loans have a sale return opt out, so if Rangers are going to buy him does that not have the potential to break the contract? That is the scenario we possibly face with Whittaker at the moment.

We came down from the Championship in an embargo and half a squad, how have you closed the gap on us, we're miles ahead of you.

You were in the championship… we were 20th in league 2 less than 2 years ago… I’d say that’s closing the gap.

I’ll defer to Si’s greater knowledge, but the one game I have seen, Boxing Day, he is a fairly big unit, reasonably quick, but he really huffed and puffed and got nowhere with our defence.

My understanding is that is only if there is a recall clause in the contract. If a permanent bid came in and Trafford wanted the move we’d have to agree some sort of compo deal to terminate the loan early. Either way I hope it doesn’t happen.

When we had Tyler Walker the other season from Forest on a season long loan, they had to pay us to break the loan deal.

okay I suspect every contract is slightly different, and the more the loaning club want the player the more they may be likely to agree to looser terms. I’ll guess it will all come out in the wash.

He can look brilliant at times, and dreadful at others. He's not worth £200k. His loan with us ends on 8th January and a lot of fans would be happy to see him sent back to Southampton.

He's very languid, and takes far too long to decide what to do with the ball when he gets it. He's also very quick to berate his team mates if the pass to him is not inch perfect. Don't expect him to press at all, and he picks up the most pathetic yellow cards - usually for arguing with the linesmen or the ref.

Having said that, he can pull something out of nothing when you least expect it - his ball for Broom to score against Bolton at Whaddon Road for example.

If he doesn’t press then I can’t see why we would be after him. We are all about the press from the front. Strange

Well the only positives I can give him tonight was that he won most things in the area and kept possession well. Went to lash the ball into the net after the whistle went and completely missed the open goal which was quite funny

Not changed too much from here then, although there was a little sympathy for him here being played as a lone (and loan!) front man in L1 and thrown into it.

He'll end up being a L2 player, I think. He'd suit a direct set who look to disrupt, someone like a Burton, how I imagine Stevenage are, Northampton a three years or so back.

He can become a League 1 player - he's got the talent - but his attitude will be what lets him down.
I did notice in our game this season at yours he stopped and argued rather than try to win the ball back if he lost it. Seemed very angry when things didnt go his way but you can see he has potential, albeit a lot to work on!

Charley Kendall is being recalled from his loan spell at Sutton. He's hardly played down there, which is a shame but I do wonder whether part of the reasoning behind the move was to have him in a full time environment but closer to home having moved up from being part time at Eastbourne in the summer.

Either way, it's another body in attacking areas.
