Creativity now I think big key for Carlisle.

I’d said an old head in the defence but depends when Huntington is back.

But they need creativity, it’s not about possession it’s about making chances and Carlisle don’t make enough

Usually, Hartridge is very solid. Reliable. Always giving you a 7/10. But the past few weeks he's been shocking. Almost like his head has been turned elsewhere
With James Wilson's injury (out for 2 months we hear) we would definitely be looking for a CB with experience

Maybe not in league 2, but in this league I’ve noticed a difference in that respect. If you keep giving the ball straight back to the opposition like we have been, you get punished.

We need to be better in possession as well as creating better chances.

Experience for me, it's been telling how much more consistent a player such a Lavelle who was actually playing in this division last year is than everyone else, we need more Lavelles. I've still got faith in some of our creative players that if they have calmer heads around them, organising things a bit better and giving them the ball in areas they can do something with it then they can do well at this level.

Ryan Woods has gone back to Hull cutting his loan short.
He looked as good as Shrewsbury fans told us for the first 1-2 games, but then completely went off the boil and got sent off in one game at Burton and can usually be seen warming the subs bench.
Also seemed to always do pre match warm ups on his own which was a bit weird

But I doubt Stevenage do well on possession.

Our problem is we ain’t at all dangerous, if you don’t trouble the other side it’s not going to have them on back foot or worrying about pushing forward at you. Teams see us as no threat at all

Good Simpson sides never have possession but used to create 10-12 chances a game a good 6-7 goal scoring ones.

Problem presently is not a single L1 side is going to worry about going on offensive vs Carlisle with their two shots a game, all take game to us, all make us dance around our style and tactics worrying about them.

We need something to change that, make sides double up on someone or keep wingbacks and midfielders back etc etc

We’ve signed goalkeeper Harry Lewis from Bradford for an undisclosed fee.

I don't ever remember a time supporting us where we get linked with good players and have the money to then go and sign them.

A couple more quality signings this window is what we need especially in midfield and upfront and I think we will have a chance of staying up and if we don't then we will surely put up a good fight and look to come back up next season by investing again in the summer.

We've lost 4 loan players, James Beadle (who has gone to Sheff Wed on loan), Kyle Edwards (injury), Stan Mills (bad injury and rumours he could be out for 9 months) and Sonny Perkins who none of our managers fancied picking.

We've signed ex-Millwall winger Tyler Burey on loan from Odense and keeper Jamie Cumming on loan from Chelsea. Cumming is out of contract in the summer so hopefully we can make it permanent.

Still need a striker or 2 (we've been linked with Blackburn's Harry Leonard from their end but don't know if true), another winger and probably a central midfielder. 2 strikers means Gatlin O'Donkor can get regular starting football on loan somewhere.

Also, Joe Bennett and Tyler Goodrham have signed new contracts.

Josh Thomas been recalled by Swansea. Never got a sustained chance with us which I don’t get as he had some serious pace. Did pick up an injury on international duty so depending when that is fully healed who knows maybe he goes back out to another club in this league or L2.

We’ve signed left back/ LWB Ben Purrington from Ross County for an undisclosed fee.

Did well at Charlton and scored in the play final for them a few years back. He’s an Exeter lad and has been linked for a while.

If we can get a striker now I’d be delighted but doesn’t sound like anyone is close.

Sounds like we’re close to signing someone ahead of the weekend, hopefully a striker as we don’t have any that are fit.

I bet Stevenage don’t give the ball away like we do. Or if they do they probably give it away in the final third, where as our defenders (Mellish and Armer in particular) regularly give the ball away from defence. We simply have to improve that side whether it be get defenders with better distribution or players further forward who can make something of the shit distribution. The goalkeeper having better kicking will also help that I expect.

Good Simpson sides maybe didn’t dominate the ball but they weren’t sloppy in possession like this current rubbish.

Yeah shame that one but didn’t get a look in and I guess with Wilson signing a new deal and Uche and Loft it makes sense to move him on, especially if we want a new striker in.

Still need two strikers and a holding midfielder IMO...

Conor Coventry set to be confirmed tomorrow on a permanent.

Happy with that, too late for us this season but hopefully starting to build for next season.

A fee and a three and a half year contract.
Yep, going for it.

Turning into Lincoln 'B' - Appleton, his assistants, Edun, McGrandles, Fiorini and now Coventry!

Coventry was pretty 'meh' here albeit he did join at a time we were selling anyone with any value in January 2020 and starting a squad rebuild from an older squad into a young one.

I see he signed a short term deal with Wycombe back in November.

Doesn't look like he's played much football for sometime but at least it's a striker which we desperately need.

Skubala seems to be indicating he wants a bit more experience in the squad. Not 30+ year olds but that 26/27 mark. That makes sense because we're a young one.

Don't think we really need any players like that in defence because we have a couple. We could perhaps do with one in CM but it's really the top end of the pitch where we're short in that regard. Can't imagine bringing that age and level of experience in that area of the pitch either short or long term is going to be cheap though, albeit I suspect come the end of January we'll be a net loss in terms of squad size.

Happy with the ambition shown to beat Sheff Weds to Coventry, hopefully it's the start of better recruitment but would imagine it's a Dobson replacement so not sure if the team is strengthened or weakened as a result. Sounds like Macualey Gillesphey in as well which sounds like a solid signing but will take time to get match fit

He's looked crap for us, but in fairness:

  • We've played him as a lone striker, which I don't think he's cut out for - that's not on him, that's on us for playing him in a role he's not suited to
  • He looked woefully out of shape when he arrived - which you'd expect from anyone who's been out of the game for a while. We may have beaten some fitness into him, so you don't have to.

He hasn't officially left us yet, but he hasn't been included in the matchday squad for the last couple of games, and we've signed 2 forwards in January, so...

And speaking of which - the second of the new forwards I mentioned is West Ham U21 Gideon Kodua, who scored against us in the Tinpot on Tuesday, just announced.

Classic "oh he scored a banger against us, let's sign him" signing, but in fairness he did look quality.

We do play one up top but we are trying to play more between the lines rather than hoofing it up for him to hold up to get runners in behind.

If he's a fox in the box he will get chances for us because we are creating a lot of chances but not had anyone to put them away since Ahadme got injured.

I think he'll definitely do better with ball to feet, if you have a decent No 10 to feed him some through balls to run onto there could be potential there - but we weren't doing that, we were kind of expecting him to be Sam Vokes, which he isn't.

But I suspect we only took him because he was a free agent and we had no other options at the time.

Anyway - he's got at least one guaranteed goal (against us in March) - he seems like a bit of a petulant arse and exactly the type who'd love to prove a point.

We've missed having a petulant arse (Sam Smith). I think it could be a promising signing if true.

Lyle is the most love him if he's on your team hate him if he's not player I've ever known. If he's fired up and confident he's unreal and a complete shithouser but I imagine that will take time given the lack of match fitness.

When he played for us he used to buy so many penalties as well with Vardy style dives and was one of the biggest fan favourites in the last decade. Shame he ended up refusing to play for us, effectively relegating us!

Sounds like he needs a certain type of manager to get the best out of him. He’s 33 now so coming to the end of his career but if anyone can get a tune out of him I think it’s Neil Harris.

I do love a shithouse forward. I loved Sam Smith whereas many on our message board hated him and were happy he left. I think they’ve all changed their tune since though.
