You're signing someone just because you've lost someone for pre season?

It really is another world.

We needed an upgrade in strikers anyway. Most people assume three of our current ones will be shipped out this summer (Waters, Dalby and Bickerstaff - the latter possibly just on loan as he's quite young)

we need another striker regardless but this will have increased the urgency.

Our current strikeforce is:

Mullin - 29 - talisman striker
Marriott - 29 - proven at L1 level and will certainly improve on last year with a full pre-season under his belt
Palmer - 32 - Has done his job for us but L1 may be his limit given his age
Fletcher - 37 - Can't finish 90 minutes and wont be able to play multiple games in a week so will be a cameo player

then 3 players who will almost certainly leave including
Dalby - 24 - Had the potential to be great but he hasnt pushed forwards with our progression. A loan to a L2 club would suit him to get regular game time. Akin to a Sheringham type player but not quite there.
Waters - 29 - Was signed as an emergency back up to Mullin in our promotion season to the league but hasnt played really since - Lower L2/NL quality
Bickerstaff - 22 - Parky likes him and is unofficially the best striker we have ever had during training sessions, but this hasnt materialised in games. NL realistically his level after an uninspiring loan at Accrington last year.

anyway, Exeter escaped non league just before FGR went on their spending spree where they basically signed any striker who had scored more than 1 goal in the season, that was halcyon days in our NL era!

Udoh to us now confirmed.
What a shit statement from Shrewsbury! Didn't even need to make it either really, I've never understood why Clubs release one about out of contract players joining another Club, unless they're U24 and need to say something about the compensation agreement (or non-agreement as it sometimes is).

He's having a weird career isn't he after lots of promise during his loan spell with you.

Pretty much out for the season here on loan, and has since bobbed about from one club to the next.
The good will he has for that bit of form through the play-offs will do him well to begin with, but he's done it no-where else. Hope it's a case of just fitting into the right place, and we just happen to be the club to get something fro . All three signings so far I'm a bit underwhelmbed by, particularly as it's just a loan and they've all come from League Two/Non-league but they all get 5 games to in the shirt at least before I'll start judging them.

We were very salty when we lost Appere to Stevenage, but there was a lot of pressure from all the fans speculating that we were broke and had no money (and until we made a signing this week, for the previous 3 days people were adamant we'd be been secretly taken over which is why there was no business - people had not kept their heads), so it may be a little petty but it's mostly going to be placating the fans; who I sense based on their input on the forum like us are feeling very frustrated and angry about the transfer window.

Rumours are flying that we may be getting Paris Maghoma back. At the end of the season he said his farewells and Evatt said we have no chance of getting him as we didn’t go up. I’d be stunned if this happened .. he’s way way too good for this level. It would almost make me excited for the new season having still not got over Wembley…

We're also rumoured to be interested in Jay Williams. Any use?
Played as defensive midfield dropping back into defence when out of possesion. Does a great job for us without being particularly good at either role.

As said before, he does have a problem with discipline. He should have been banned for all 3 play off games but got a reprieve when a yellow was overturned for mistaken ID....I would have booked him so imho, lucky.

He also has a habit of stopping playing when up against a big strong forward and getting into shoving matches instead. Joe Ironside took him to the cleaners and so did Bugiel at Newport.

He did really well for us though.

Casey

Edit: that would be 9 of the starting 11 !

You'd have to go some to be more wank than FGR were when they dropped to the basement.

Carlisle were pretty fucking appalling last season too, but FGR certainly take the crown for third-tier direness in recent years. Not sure what the lowest points total *ever* at this level was, though.
One of the worst teams I ever saw was Workington. Only good thing about them is they probably had the best goalie in the division.

But you still currently have 7, right?

We will be making do with a 19 year old up front again this season.

Parky is miles ahead of Clough, promotions with 4 different teams. Last season was the first promotion Clough can properly call his own in his entire career.

Challinor is similar to Parky, if we're counting Colwyn Bay and FLYDE as though they aren't pub sides that is.

As you say, all clubs are happy with their manager and that's it, been done to death this.
When Burton were promoted from the Conference, that was his doing. Granted he left before they got over the line but they were about 20 points clear when he departed and it was only Roy McFarland trying to help us out that nearly blew it for them.

Can’t comment on his other achievements but keeping Burton in the Championship was a particularly good one.

I think Parkinson has a great history too, especially his cup antics. And of course his conference title (even though it was heavily financed) still required an epic points haul and was delivered under huge pressure. They’re pretty even I’d say.

Signed midfielder Ed Francis from Gateshead for an undisclosed fee. Gateshead fans seem gutted he’s going which is a good sign for sure. He’s a very technical midfielder which will suit our style to a tee.

Midfield is looking much stronger now, so it’s been a good week and pleased with the recruitment overall.

Based on his time with us years ago I would rather have Morton than Appere. Gives you all the work rate but gave us a genuine goal threat at the same time. Its strange how his career has stalled since leaving us previously.

That being said, we are just replacing our squad players with more of the same. Need to get some real quality in the door as we have such glaring holes in the squad at the moment.

He’s said in his interview he’s played off the left since rather than up front like he did for us. Hopefully the reason.

Liam Kelly off to the franchise confirmed.

Undisclosed fee.

I'm pissed off we got promoted now. We had a decent side, not the best but could give anyone a game. It was fun watching us as we did our best to play football in the right way. Getting good and bad results and the players and fans just had a bit of a bond. Hey, a lower league club but it all came together for a magical day out at Wembley, our first ever.

It's been gutted ! I had us as favourites to go down but I thought the team would give it a go and maybe, a couple of additions and we might make a decent fist of it.

Now talk of protests at the first game, already people talking of not bothering and asking for the season ticket money back. How not to run a lower league football club 101.

It’s certainly an odd strategy Crawley are pursuing.

We did have 2 seasons going up from L2 to L1 where we completely failed to strengthen adequately in the summer, and then surprise surprise, went straight back down.

But in those cases, it wasn’t like we had a fire sale, it was just a combination of a lack of £££ and various crap going on behind the scenes that screwed us.

Crawley seem to be setting themselves up as this season’s shitshow before the new campaign has even kicked off.

Yes, there’s still absolutely plenty of players to choose from, and as the window wears on, players will get less extravagant in terms of their demands, as the available options of clubs to sign for become fewer and fewer.

But we’ve definitely been guilty of leaving signings too late in the past, and having been left with everyone else’s sloppy seconds, which is never that inspiring.

We've signed Diallang Jayesimi from Charlton on a 2 year deal, where it seems he had 5 managers in 3 years and never got going.

Wellens seems to be the only manager to get him playing well whilst both were at Swindon, so having to hope this gets his career going again.

I thought he was younger than 26, so very much last chance for him it seems.

There’s a player in there but was pretty dreadful for us. Quite surprised to see him get another club in the division but knowing us he will probably be really good for you.

We’ve lost out on Jai Rowe from Boston at the last minute. Will be signing for another League One club shortly. If it doesn’t rain…

Isnt that what you signed Magennis for?
Did i see you linked to Tom Bradshaw? be excellent if you could get him back at this level he was brilliant for us and probably more proven in League one than anyone you have including Mullin.

Are you returning him to DFS?
Didn’t they go pop about 15 years ago ?

our fans were critical of clough at the end but the reality is he kept us up (and bar a last minute goal at Bolton ) we would have stayed up again in the championship so for me he is an outstanding manager and hugely overachieved.
Let’s also not forget he got us to a semi final of a major trophy.

We are, although Millwall sound like they don't want to let him go. I suppose that could change if they buy Langstaff.

Current rumours are Bradshaw and Joe Morrell (who some are saying will be signed over the weekend) . Although typically the actual people we are signing are not the ones being rumoured. Brunt hadn't been mentioned at all before he signed.

I'm sure Jon Brady would like Jay Williams back. His captain in the youth team.

Lloyd Jones and Mannion potentially in there too.

Feels like a gamble and we don't often spend big on fees. Godden, Ahadme, Leaburn and Aneke on paper is the making of a pretty good selection of forwards.

You've become Cambridge B, but I am very fond of them all. Even if I forgot two of them were there!

O'Rourke claiming we've put in a bid for Harrison Burrows at Peterborough. Never heard of him.

Edit - Quality numbers from LB/LWB.
