I do remember Town brining some very impressive numbers in the past to the Lane. However Grimsby have certainly brought under 1500 more than once, more likely under 1000. Which of course is absolutely fine.

Overall very decent number, like many, it's their home numbers that have tended to have been the issue.

Yeah home has always been a problem for us. Even when we were in the second tier for almost the entire 90s we never averaged over 7000 over a season.

Bradford fans what did we allocate you? I know you sold out so presume it was the 1671 that was announced on the day as I think that’s how we announce our attendances now by tickets sold not numbers through the gate but noticed we’ve given Wrexham 1721. I know it’s not many more but baffled as to why. Swear we pick a figure out of a hat

Pre Ryan and Rob, and for as long as I have been watching, Wrexham's attendances have always been piss poor. Awful long before relegation to Non League#stain

Now of course they are a different beast and both promoted clubs are welcome additions to this level of football, bringing lots to the table in the 2023/24 season.

In the 80s and 90s our home attendance was pretty poor. But then most clubs were the same back then. Football violence, rampant unemployment in Wrexham etc etc

Notts can't really throw shade at attendance figures, apart from a brief period in the fifties you've never been a particularly well supported club either, relative to your size and history. Last time you were in the top tier your average attendance was less than it is now.

Very true look at our attendances even during our glory period of the 1970s we hit a ceiling of 10,000-12,000 no matter what division we were in. Same applies to our last visit to the top flight in 1991/92 averaging just 11,000. Yes it's the sign of the times but that's still frankly awful considering the size of the away support at that level when the big boys came to town. I still remember it well.

To put that in perspective this season i wouldn't be surprised if we average around 10,000 which will be frankly sensational for the 4th tier.

Saying that we've never dropped before 4000-4500 averages (that's our hardcore no matter what) , still pretty poor admittedly but looks very impressive compared to many including Wrexham who I see often struggled to reach averages of 2000-2500 during the same periods. What happened there? Locals well and truly gave up it seems.

It was pretty miserable. Two successive relegations... Finishing bottom of the football league in 90. Violence, depressed economic conditions (Mines all shut a lot of other big industries in the area shut). As with many others in lower league as you say. I started going with my dad in the early 90s and I remember sub 3k attendances being quite a regular thing until Flynn got a good team together and stabilised things. Even then we were generally around 4.5k in Division 2. It's definitely a good time for attendances at the moment in lower league football, even before the takeover we were back up to 5k+ after a decade in Non league.

£27 is outrageous for this level, even our club charging £24 is a bit much. £20 is plenty campaign should be brought back in for EFL clubs.

1980-81 season we were in promotion battle with Notts for a while before we faded after West Ham tonked us 5-1. The Notts following at BP for a key game in March was shocking - maybe 500! Our home crowds were above Notts as well, 11,069 v 9,551, even though Notts were promoted. Since then our relative averages are not too different. Our main issue is half of Blundell Park is 100+ years old, built to view the game from terraces not seats, and with a usable capacity of about 8,400 with 7,200 home places.

I must say it's great to see home attendances getting some time in the sun.

I'm a tad young to remember it or to watch any games in the 1980-81 season, although I've been told endlessly how good the Notts team of that era was. I started mid/late 80s thankfully. But that's just one season.

I suspect "not too different' is definitely a stretch.

A quick look at the home season averages for both clubs they have been higher at BP than ML 2 of the last 20 years and I believe only 13 of the last 50 years. I fully expect that strong trend to continue this season.

Overall the average attendance difference is reported as 26% greater at Meadow Lane. Although admittedly NCFC have the advantage of playing more seasons in the top division.

More importantly looking forward you make a good point about the age and condition of BP. I didn't realise home capacity was down to 8,400 from the stated 9,000+? I know ours is a lot lower than the actual number of seats due to SAG and H&S , not that it's been much of an issue in my lifetime.

Came back after the full season out on my 12th (?) birthday in April and smashed in a hattrick against Ipswich. Legend. Seem to remember nobody even knew he was coming back, back in the day when a player could go from being out with a broken leg to on the back of the programme and in your lineup without anyone realising.

As difficult as it is to give Salford their due, £20 for me and my 16 year old lad on Friday. It will be 40 quid for Crewe.

I always had Crewe down as one of the good guys(apart from Dario Gradi obviously) so not sure why they’re intent on ripping fans off.

Bennell operated independent of the club and you have to ask yourself why you allowed Savage to slip under your fingers.
