Yeah, i seem to recall you have a wee nipper of a lad (possibly on loan from hull) who was class that night, the 2nd that night was a worldie though!
That was Jamie Devitt yeah he was great then on loan for us although I seem to remember he came back on loan a second time and wasn’t as good.
One bizarre thing I always remember about that game is we had a free kick early in the second half and Devitt stood in front of your wall doing star jumps I’m guessing to try and put them off or something but it didn’t work as Ross Hannah just smacked it straight into your wall anyway.

I appear to have started some kind of off-topic Rhead mania…

so, to correct - just over 900 going to Wrexham tomorrow apparently…

I was there and 21 years later still think there's a case to be made that he wasn't offside tbh.

edit to explain: always felt like that ball forward by Gadsby (RIP) was falling into midfield and never reaching where Christie was. It was only the County header that sent it backwards and (more importantly ) back up into the air that put Christie in. It wasn't just a deflection on the original ball forward. Was a separate hit of the ball, so like a separate phase of play or summat. Not saying he was definitely onside here. I think it's an interpretation of the rules and one side will always argue differently to the other and after 21 years folk aren't going to change their minds either way tbh are they.

Remember that very well sat behind the goal with my dad, in the Kop with over 5,000 I believe.

That was the uninspiring second loan spell wasn't it? The first time we had him was when he almost single handedly saved us from relegation from the league.

Aha yeah I just looked it up and you’re right, funny how your memory plays tricks on you as you get older isn’t it?

Just checked he’s still playing in Conference North for Alfreton!
I was only told last week that Matt Rhead has had to retire due to a neck injury and has played his last game for Alfreton.

It was 21 years how can you remember??? I remember the goal for the obvious reason but couldn't even remember the end scoreline, let alone the game itself.

Either you were a wee nipper back then so have a good memory still, I've been to far too many games or it just meant more to you and travelling 4,458 in the Big Kop stand.

If I remember correctly you had the 1st half 1 0 up we did the battering 2nd to go 2 1 up before your offside equaliser.

The reason i recall that day is that we did a charity bikeride for a blind girl called chelsea barsby, so was knackered when i got there.

Back then notts county were a club that mansfield really looked upto, and being in the same league was a big thing, obviously tables have changed a lot since then.

Also i’ve a very good memory.

Pre sold 552 for Wimbledon away tommorow. Pay on the day available aswell so hopefully be over 600 there. Even with cheap tickets not too bad considering how expensive travel is.

Is now a good time to mention that we’re the first team so far not to sell out Wrexham away? :animatedf:

On the evening where we rise temporarily to 1st place from 2nd in that other table, more importantly we temporarily drop from 1st to 2nd in the willy wavy one.

Mental to be looking at either this early in the season obvs, but at least we are consistent in both.

As reported during the morning of the game the reported 1,245 is another booming following from the Pies.

Not sure if you saw if further back in the thread but we all had a chat and it was decided that selling out Wrexham is actually more tinpot than not selling it out so once again we're leading the way in terms of L2 away support.

To be fair you've played us plenty of times over the last decade or so whereas some haven't visited us for twenty years.

1,025 GY - nice to break a thousand for such a long trip but not quite sell out, to retain our non tinpot credibility…
