ok for what it is worth, most clubs unsurprising see their average increase if you don't include midweek night games. The only club to show a decrease is Morecombe (162 to 160)

We don't have any local games bar Scunny and that's a sell out this Saturday. Next nearest club is Mansfield (I think) at about 80 miles away.

Yeah, we drop from an automatic place (third) down to a play-off position (fifth).

Lincolnshire clubs have so far taken a total average of 2,472 away per game (Lincoln are currently at 1,238) with (my) estimated average home support of Lincoln 8,200, Grimsby 4,300 and Scunthorpe 3,200 = 15,700. That's 15.75% of home support at away games across the three clubs - pretty impressive. It must be the nordic genes and Lincolnshire diaspora...

The biggest problem Swindon have is all of our localish games dont have big away ends and have all been sold out Cheltenham, FGR, Newport, Northampton, Orient(Fast Train to london). The fans are trying to get a 3K to walsall initiative going at the end of the month and as we creep towards Promotion we should see some decent away crowds at northern outposts.

I've still some distant relations in Nth Lincs. My three children support Town but have never having lived in Lincolnshire. Whether the Mariner lineage will die out after them, who knows? Like you I attend more away games than home.

I doubt there will have been too many. Most who went first time, but were told the game was off for safety after Swindon's security had started letting supporters in, will not have gone down again. Cost and getting time off work will have worked against them.

Yeah, Scunny runs about 15% average (away/home support), which we consider decent for a small town club. Bigger Lincs places of Lincoln and Grimsby have strong away followings too. Places with a lot of shift workers suffer more, I have always thought. No numbers to back it up though. Do agree with BlackHaddock's point about fans spread around the country.

There is certainly a massive imbalance in this division when we are averaging over 1000 fans across the grounds and only 250 odd of you lazy buggers can be assed to travel down to sunny Devon. 750 people at say an average of £10 a ticket works out an awful lot of money over the season.

Had one of my most memorable awaydays at Plymouth on a Tuesday evening in 1992 in the Old (old) 2nd Division. Towards the end of the season and both teams were at the wrong end of the table so it was a big 6 pointer. Poured with rain all game and "Super" Clive Mendonca scored his first of many goals for the club as we won 2-1 with the 100 or so Mariners fans "singing in the rain" doing the conga around the away end. At the end of the season we stayed up and they were relegated so it was a massive win for us.

That was my 2nd visit to Plymouth as I also went in 1987. That time it was memorable for all the wrong reasons as we lost 5-0 at it turned out to be the final game in a Mariners shirt for our keeper Nigel Batch which was an awful way to end the Grimsby career of such a legendary custodian.

Sorry chap, but life is not like that. Some of us have responsibilities and family and jobs that make not going to a game every Saturday afternoon a possibility. I get to 3 or 4 away games a season and have a great day every time cos I’m with my mates having a few beers and usually watching shit football which is immaterial.
jeff is my saviour. He brings me joy and despair week after week. It doesn’t make me less of a fan but gives me options because a. My life is different and b. I have a life outside of football.

You have mistaken what I've been saying - I haven't done an away game since Boxing Day in 2015 for the very reason you've given (4 kids and a wife who begrudges me even going to home games).

My issue is with the Plymouth fan calling me a plastic because I think Plymouth is a shit-hole and I wouldn't want to go there ever again.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone who supports lower league teams, even those johnny-come-latelies can't be called plastic. Plastic is the Man Utd and Liverpool fans on my Facebook who I grew up with and have never been to single game, or even left their small corner of Gloucestershire, but refer to each other as Scousers and Mancs because they definitely are as they watch all the games at home don't you know. And they'll never go to Cheltenham because it's shit. Someone told them it was once and they must be right.

People only support the clubs like ours because of some familial or other link. I support Cheltenham because it's where I'm from, I know a lad from Derby who supports Cheltenham because his Dad is from here and took him to Cheltenham games, etc... If Salford are followed by United and City fans then credit to those fans for at least going to the football and not being armchair supporters. If the new FGR fans are only going because of Vince's eco-trip then at least they're going to the football. I could go n.
