Ahh shame for Macc Town!

Bury 0-0 Ntown

Think both sides had good spells in the game by the sounds of it, draw sounds about fair in a game that fizzled out. Given the Northampton players might have been fired up by the new manager effect I’ll take the point.

Mansfield up next and the return of David Flitcroft.

Northampton V Bury 1 of the poorest match's I'v seen for a long time.
Their number 6 was a disgrace and we seemed to believe panic is the best form of defence

Nice to see us take more than one chance tonight. The result was never truly in doubt once we grabbed the second.

Never in doubt after Manny Oyeleke went off the pitch. Quite simply, without him we are bottom 8 and with him we are top 8.

My little optimism bubble well and truly burst last night. Incredible start where we had 2 golden chances and one half chance within 2 minutes of kick off.
Once MK got a foothold they absolutely ran the show and Smith reverted to type by being bullied and made to look what he is, distinctly average.

To say the half time subs were bemusing is an understatement, 0-2 down, takes off 2 possible goalscorers for a holding midfielder and a guy who has been out for 5 weeks and was carrying strapping.
End result 10 men for the last half an hour and Montano probably due another month on the sidelines. Pure genius from Aspin.

Well deserved win by MK and no complaints about the result.

Il be worried if we lose and play anywhere near as bad Saturday, especially with some real tough games up after on paper, my worry is with Manny out does Aspin revert back to his weird tactics that’s dont work to accommodate his loss. Surely Hardcastle just slots in there!

In fairness MK like Exeter were a cut above other sides we’ve faced, I said Exeter were the best team we’ve played since relegation and MK were arguably even better. When we’ve come out of a game like that and with the way they pass the ball and overload the midfield we just didn’t have the energy levels certainly once Manny went off to keep up. Had we taken one of the three chances early on then maybe a different story.

We’ve shown the last four games we can be decent and have the qualities but i really hope it isn’t all requiring the glue that is Manny.

In terms of the subs... why not bring Kanu on instead of a visibly unfit Monty! Or even Dodds with the three man attack we went too.

I can’t be too critical after all they’ve given us the last few games however as long as it is a blip and we are back to the levels we’ve been at on Saturday.

Vale fans ambition bar is set so low it’s incredible. Which is a little surprisingly as L1 football was so recent. I’ve never seen fans of a traditional club so easily pleased and content.

Its just being realistic after two years of utter turd. Its depressing we accept just competing at this level but the damage done to the club in recent seasons (ironically started over losing to a league two side in a cup tie!) has been huge and will take time to turn around.

From beating the likes of Sheffield United and Wigan to this is in such a short period is annoying but lets be honest it was two points away from being much much worse... and taking Chesterfield who were in a similar boat now struggling to even stay in the National League things can easily spirial... if we show signs of turning the corner after a third squad overhaul in three years and can then make tweaks in the summer to challenge next season most Valiants will be happy.

i am far from content VM. If our aspirations are to finish 15th we might as well all pack up and go home now.
As you allude to if you accept mediocrity that is what you end up with.

There's a small section of our support who would clap us down to the National North, they're just happy we exist. However, the majority would definitely aspire to be in the league above but understand that stopping the rot this season is progress.

There's also a lack of belief because of the owner. He's the elephant in the room that it's best not to mention because it'll make you give up all hope. The feeling I share with many others is that regardless of who is the manager, who the players are at the club, what the support staff do is never going to be enough to outweigh the anchor at the top of the club, who's mentality is Sunday League. As much as the feel good factor builds after a few good results it can soon be tempered by the fact we have no full time physio, the players have no training kit, we still have half a stand etc. That's why the bar is set low.

It's ridiculous how we've got from 6 clean sheets and 14 points from 18 to no clean sheets and 1 point from 12 in the blink of an eye. It shows yet again that Darren Way has no clue what to do when his first choice XI gets disrupted. As my old father in law used to say "Every blind pig finds an acorn". I genuinely think he got lucky and his first XI happened to click, but as soon as we got a few injuries he didn't know what to do. I particularly concerned that we are very dependent on one player in particular:

League games where Gary Warren has started: 6 Clean sheets: 6
League games where Gary Warren hasn't started: 5 Clean sheets: 0

Here's how ridiculous Way is:

Darren Way (April 2018): “I think that next year the pressure has to be on a top seven. Anyone who can't provide that, they shouldn't be involved, because that's where we're aiming for.”

Darren Way (October 2018): “I know that one or two have mentioned that if we don't get promoted this year, then it's been a failure. It's absolutely ridiculous.”

He's not starting on Saturday then, I hope.

No full time Physio? I would have tought, after the manager, that was one of the most important appointments going. A good physio is woth his weight getting your players fit quickly.

Apparently he could be on the bench but definitely won't start. We've got 8 out injured at the moment, Way has said 4 should be back after the international break but not which ones...

He didnt turn up on the first day that we employed and for whatever reason haven't filled the vacancy yet.

Fair play to the 50 odd away fans and a that was a match you could have easily won which is hopefully a sign for better things to come. Someone ought to inform our defence that it's not compulsory to provide visiting teams with a two goal head start.

Trevor Kettle is the worst referee I have ever seen. Why he gets gigs in League Two I do not know. I lost count of the number of bookings yesterday and it wasn't a dirty game. He made many poor decisions against both sides. He is always dreadful.

Whistling Kettle wasn't good enough for the Conference when he started reffing our games 20 years ago. It was like some sort of sick joke when he got promoted to the football league the same season we went up. He's really likes being the centre of attention no matter what it takes.

You have to feel for Macclesfield.

Why the hell did they appoint that useless loser as a manager? Were there no better options for them like?

This is my take on Trevor Kettle so be nice! Problem with the guy is there is no middle ground with him - he's either terribly poor or, surprise surprise, actually quite decent. It all depends on which Whistling Kettle you get on the day of the match.

Other refs are generally consistently good (well, good enough for L2 footy at least) or else consistently poor. But there's no such thing for Trev. The man simply loves change! Thing is that when's he's poor he's like really really poor.

When the club is run by people who effectively sacked Askey after getting us promoted, the recruitment process was always going to go tits up. Having said that the problems go beyond Yates.

Why was your previous manager sacked after getting you promoted??

He wasn't technically sacked, but absolutely no effort was made to keep hold of him this summer.

I watched it on iFollow and to be fair Newport battered us and even taking a point was daylight robbery.

Like you say not a dirty game, but loads of bookings. I actually thought all the pen decisions were spot on but your guy should have got a straight red IMO due to not making a genuine attempt to play the ball, and exactly the same for Kelleher too for your penna.

Newport looked a very decent side. Quick, incisive, strong, technically sound, energetic, move the ball with quickly with purpose. Can see them up there come May.
