Unless anyone leaps out of the chasing pack, or one of the teams near the top sees their form plummet, it is looking like the current top eight fighting for the promotion and play-off places...our home game on the last day of the season against Exeter may have something riding on it.

We appear to be sleepwalking to the end of the season, which considering we're not even remotely safe yet, is a bloody dangerous strategy. We might have got wins against Macc and Yeovil but we were helped massively by sending offs in those games. Even then Yeovil were the better team.

We have two massive home games now against Cambridge on Tuesday and Vale next week. We need a minimum of 4 points to ease our fears.

Do your lot practice stamping on players in training or is it just a natural talent?

As I've seen nothing of yesterday's game, I can't comment on any incidents from it. Your's is the first post I've seen mention a stamp though.

As we've had no players sent off for stamping, or punished for it since Danny Wright in 2016, I'm going to guess you might be over-egging the pudding somewhat by insinuating that the players do it a lot.

There was only one player likely to score for Stevenage yesterday and he did. He was doing the same thing all game and cutting back inside. He hit the post, bar, scored two, then forced a good save late on. We scored two and had two off the line.

We seem to be stuck between two ways of playing at the minute for some reason. We have the players to go and score goals - Akinde, Anderson, Andrade, McCartan, Pett, Frecklington, Rowe but our default setting is to defend leads, or at least don't get countered, which isn't really fitting the players we're playing at the minute.

I've got little problem with what we're trying to do, but the make-up of the midfield isn't quite right and that's what's causing the issues IMO. It's been a season problem rather than a recent one, though.

Just since the turn of the year there's been Vale (93rd), Mansfield (93rd), Swindon (88th), Bury (87th), Stevenage (87th and 94th). 10 dropped points in 6/7 weeks.

It's hard to say after one game but Lincoln, with the exception of Andrede didn't look very creative against us and I can see why you're drawing a lot . Hard to beat but not finding it easy to get the win.
still look certs for promotion though.

Down to 14th but 6 points off 7th with a game in hand. Going to be some run in. Grimsby and Colchester up next. Yuuuuuge.
So how many of you fishy fuckers are coming next week? Will we need to stock up on various flat fishes?
I'm in Leeds on the Friday and looking at trains down to Swindon on the Saturday. If I get into Swindon at 2.30pm will I be able to make it to the match on time? Don't mind getting a taxi if needs be.

Those finishes yesterday were stunners, if he had got the hat trick in similar spectacular fashion it was folklore stuff
Yeah the second one was a beauty. Great technique. Sounded like Lincoln took an absolute battering yesterday. 40% possession at home? Might have to assign them the nickname Limpoln as that's how they're seeminlgy getting over the line!

There's no way it was that low.

Dino got a bit carried away post match as well saying they'd battered us. I think the injury time adrenaline rush got the better off him.

BBC stats are bollocks, though. I think we all worked that one out years ago.

For a start, I can think of 5 shots on target for us - 2 goals, 2 off the line and 1 disallowed goal.

Fotmob has it down as 49/51% but only 3 shots on target. Don't think disallowed goals count as registered shots.

All joking aside though Luke, are you getting a bit twitchy?

I'll let you know if 4 games time when we've played our game in hand! We have FGR/Exeter as teams up there but also Morecambe/Yeovil so anything less than 6 there and then I'll start to worry.

In one respect, we keep ticking over without playing too well but by the same token, we're probably capable of more so I'm not really sure where I stand with all these draws at the minute.

I'm all about the gap to 4th anyway, which at this point is 6 points, better GD and game in hand so we're still well placed.

Regarding this stamp yesterday on Cook, from the Lower it looked like minimal contact but obviously the foot was on the other side of the player from my perspective so couldn't see what exactly happened. The stupid part of it all was the yellow card, either it's an accident or it's violent conduct and a straight red? How on earth does a yellow card even get considered unless it's for Cook for simulation?

Not that a stamp would surprise me, mind. Every Cheltenham side I've seen for the past few years has been full of shithousery, worse than Mansfield and Lincoln. Can see clear as day their 4 deliberately tripping Woolford over after the penalty. I thought the referee wised to it though and had a decent performance in the end.

Yeah, you'll be right. Least likely to drop out the top three in my opinion. Those FGR/Exeter ones are gonna be key.

This mid table battle is the epicentre of the game right now though. If you aren’t on 46 points, you’re nothing.
Critics and pundits were billing Grimsby v Crewe on the final day of the season as the BATTLE FOR 10TH way back in July and they all laughed at us three months ago when we said it was still on, but both teams have beaten all the odds to get themselves into a position to be able to fight it out and the two sets of fans are absolutely buzzing to be in the big race.

Akinde had two headers cleared off the line and McCartan had a shot blocked.
Their manager is right though they definitely battered us, smith and Andrade probably have the bruises to prove it.
Lies, damn lies and statistics Luke

Oh shit, were you down? Was with a load of Blackpool fans, would have been good to have a pint. Do you go to all their matches, then?
Yep, was at Sunderland away on Tuesday night and Charlton on Saturday...

Which stand were you in?

Was in the upper tier of the West Stand, great view. First time there and I really liked it. Loads of space to get around, massive toilets and a nice open air concourse, which is probably a pain in the arse when it's freezing but it was alright on Saturday. All the other old London grounds I've been to have been really tight on space, which is good for heightening atmosphere but if you're just going as a casual fan it's nice to be comfortable. Whereabouts where you?

Yeah I'm a fan of The Valley. Last season was the first time for me and I just expected it to be your generic former Premier League 'bowl' or arena, but it's a really good ground. Modern and practical but still has that bit of character. Decent atmosphere as well, which was obviously helped by the cheap tickets.

I'd have been near you then as the press box is on the first row of the second tier on the main stand. Great view to be fair.
