We had some terrible results in the league. The worst for me was losing to Hyde FC 2-1 at home in front of about 4,500 fans on a freezing cold Tuesday night. With their fans kept in a corner by the infamous SKF Clock. That's our only sub-5,000 attendance in the league I believe since the 1990s.

Going to Braintree and Barrow and any other northern shithole used to really be bogeys for us.

Everyone lost to barrow.

The bloody place is halfway to Greenland

And in the league, Bath, Hayes and Yeading (already relegated!)...
Alfreton,Salisbury, Tamworth bloody loads of teams gave us a beating in the first 5 seasons until the dynamic duo arrived.
Walked out of the defeat by NFU in the trophy in the time I sat through that car crash we couldn't muster a single shot on target.
The Cowleys first game at home was NFU and we beat them 6-1.
Don't get relegated your finances got into a total tail spin, it was horrible until last season.
Still waiting to be woken up and told the last 18 months never happened and we're at Solihull at the weekend struggling in the bottom half of the conference.

We drew 0-0 at home with grays athletic who managed 8 fans

We lost to Alfreton at home the season we won the league, it wasn't good.

Welling. We never seemed to beat Welling.

Lowest away attendance at SB was 12, which was Telford off the back of their 27 (at the time) games without a win. We nearly lost that one as well IIRC and scraped a late 3-2 win, which basically saw us safe from relegation with 2 or 3 games to spare.

Yeah Power got a late penalty.
Got one draw against Welling and lost the rest.

That day Hayes and Yeading beat us 4-0 will never be forgotten. If it wasn’t for the fact it’s the lowest crowed we’ve ever played infront of then it was Tyrone Thompson’s absolute peach of a finish, into his own goal.

It was about 25 degrees that day and it was also the same day as the Grand National, I was watching that on my phone leant on the wall with my hand on my face and the next morning I’d caught the sun and had a handprint across half my face. Also West Ham/Chelsea was on the tele before the game and as soon as it finished a table of about 5/6 grown men all changed their shirts from either of those team to Hayes and Yeading

It was fun but please never let us go back there.

If this is, indeed, a non league reminiscence thread, where are the Oxford and Bristol Rovers fans?

I see another late winner for you guys last night mate, before long you'll be coming to expect them as a given!
We expect one every match now mate it shows we never give up going for goals which after 4 seasons of shit football is great to see.

Didn't bring Nuneaton bring 9 when we beat them 3-1 in front just 1421?

Our first ever defeat in Non league was at home to Hayes and Yeading, we started with a win at moneybags Crawley opening day then a draw with York, thinking nice one 4 points from 2 tough looking games we're gonna piss this, then they come here with their 12 (I think) fans and turn us over 2-1.
Lovely stuff.

It seems a couple of times a season a thread turns into reminiscing about the good old non league days with all of us tinpotters who've been down there, bet it bores the arse off fans of teams who've never had the pleasure.

As long as someone translates it’s fine, seems a foreign language to me.

You lot are getting me all misty-eyed for the old Isthmian League days when I started supporting Yeovil.

Had to google them as I live in E17. Turns out they are basically Daggers now:

Wiki:
The club ceased to exist in 1988 when it merged into Leytonstone/Ilford, who later became Redbridge Forest and merged with Dagenham to form Dagenham and Redbridge

Absolutely.

The days of us, Luton, Wrexham, Grimsby, fleetwood and Newport all in the conference battling out for the playoffs and top spot.

Guess down in midtable it would have featured Cambridge and Lincoln also.

The conference used to be ridiculously competitive, it still is but the standard is not close to when Mansfield/Luton went up.

Don't know if any of you guys used to post on the old blue square premier forum but there was a deluded Luton fan on there called LeedsNo1hatter who was asking what odds people thought he'd get for Luton going all season unbeaten as he was certain they would, and real cocky about it he was too.
You've guessed it, first game of the season they lost 1-0. :10:

We were in The Isthmian League when i started watching Wycombe in 1973 and i do miss some things about those days, switching ends at half-time, some nice club bars to drink in before games and most matches were in the South East so i went to all away games as well. Saying that now we've been in The FL for 25 years i wouldn't want to go back to being non-league again.

At the top end it did but outside the Top 5-7 or so it was generally a poor division overall.

There's no Mansfield/Kiddy, Fleetwood/Wrexham, Barnet/Bristol Rovers, Lincoln/Tranmere down there this season and it's looking like a low league win points total.

You can get fucked. ;-) We’d already lost two Conference play off finals before you felt like joining us.

When we were trying to get promoted first time round, it was Exeter, Torquay, Burton and Stevenage who we were competing with.

In our 9 seasons down there, we finished in the play offs 3 times (2nd each time), we flirted with relegated twice and finished mid table (and out of money) four times.

The two fights with relegation were the low points - I remember getting stuffed twice on the trot 5-0 in about February/March and being several points from safety and having played more games than those around us. It genuinely looked like regional football was on the cards.

Just checked, and it's looking at 85 or so this season as it stands whereas over the last 10 years, an average points total for 1st has been 98 with 2nd 90.

Would be nice to see Wrexham tranmere or Macclesfield come up (if we're in this league that is) as close to Manchester. With bury and Rochdale looking like coming down it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

There's also a Sutton by Mansfield, though I suspect the one in the conference isn't that one lol

Ha. I always seem to remember you being alright. We had 3 midtable finishes, the playoffs (lost to york) the fa trophy final (lost to Darlington) and won it the 5th season (above kiddy) all 3 of those are all now in the conference north.

One of my earliest memories of supporting Cheltenham was a 3-2 home win over Baldock Town in the Beazer Homes Premier Division.

Going back to the Conference after 18 years in the Football League was scary, but because we were always up there, I have to say I loved it. I got to do a couple of away games that I normally can't do, and we had 5 games live on telly in one season.

Had we been losing, and not come straight back up, I'd probably bemoan the hell that place was (as some Cheltenham fans like to proclaim) but in fairness, I found practically every team friendly and the atmospheres just as good, if not better, than most League 2 games.
