Aye. From 2017 when he was at Blackburn. No idea what punishment the club will get.

I know it’s a fine line but if you’re not betting on your own team’s games I dont see too much of a problem.

I do have sympathy for footballers who get pinged, but at the same time, there are plenty of other sports to bet on. Horse Racing, Darts, Boxing etc. If you must get your fix, just don't do it on football matches, not worth the risk is it?

Are UK footballers allowed to bet on oversees games or is it a complete ban?

From the BBC article:

"Under FA rules and regulations, there is a worldwide ban on betting on football in place for those involved in the sport from the Premier League level down to step three of the non-league pyramid."

I always feel that banning a player for betting is punishing the club rather than the player and the club have done nothing wrong.
A better solution, in my opinion would be to give the player a hefty fine, related to the size of his salary.
It would have to be severe to act as a deterrent.
The money could then be given to a charity such as Gamblers Anonymous.
That way the player gets punished and not the club.

Why do you? I've noticed that you only ever name 6. Is it something to do with academy trained players?

Pretty much, with our near half decade in the doldrums we've never had the finances to run a recognised academy or youth setup to which one of your subs has to be 'grown' from. We're running a B team from next season with plans to get something properly established over the next few years I believe.

I think you just have to have one registered rather than one on your bench. We consistently named matchday squads without an academy player in it and named seven subs for every game.

It doesn't have to be an academy player. Just someone who's been at the club for so mNy years prior to his 18th birthday.

Crawley don't have an academy but I believe they can name 7 because we have Khaleel in the squad.

You do have to have at least 1 “home grown player” in the match day squad to be able to name 7 subs.

Last season Gills often named only 6. We’ve got a number of young home grown players, but NH said he wouldn’t put them on the bench if he wasn’t going to use them. I thought that was weird, as surely even the experience of being in the squad and on the bench is a good learning for young players. Don’t need to tell them they won’t be brought on regardless?

Not sure what the full definition of “home grown player” is. We’ve not had an academy before this year, only U18’s. I think it’s simply if a player has been at the club before turning 18, or 16 or something.

It’s only just come to light because he had a bet on Bradford City shifting 15000+ season tickets for 23/24 and he got collared when he went to pick up his winnings.

Well we definitely didn’t have one in the vast majority of our matchday squads and named 7 subs every week.

As I understand it as long as one is named in your registered 22 outfield players then you’re good to go and can name seven subs whether that player is included in the matchday squad or not.

That would make more sense, because if you have 1 and they get a serious injury which is out of your control, why should you be punished by having a short bench? Still a silly rule, especially for lower league clubs who are finding it harder and harder to justify having expensive youth teams.

Sharpe done a decent job in his time and improved quite a few things so it’s a lost, but the Radfords are back in town now and I think that’s a good thing.

I expect/hope we will bring in a head of football type to help run the club now though.

It was great getting most of our business done early but now it’s very boring down at Donny, one more definitely to come in (Wilks/Sadlier/Kayode or for the delusional Sharp) are the name’s being mentioned. The squad have gone up to Scotland for some team building so there might be some casualties from last season’s squad if they don’t measure up. Roll on Saturday for our first pre season game not that we will be able to gain much from it

Must admit I'm not surprised. I'm not sure Dunc understands lower league football at all.
