100%. That Chesterfield away game where we accepted their invitation for a scrap, got King sent off and nearly got Dobra sent off as well before beating them... lovely stuff.

King should be sent off at the start of every game as a matter of course.

I guess the other part of it is how valued they are generally, and everyone will have their opinion on that, but I'm not disagreeing.

Thought this was interesting but only focuses on a single season, for someone with such a reputation, Ward-Prowse only finding a teammate 24% of the time seems really low. https://www.premierleague.com/news/2638312#:~:text=Over the last 18 seasons, highest share in a decade.
Yeah, surprisingly low.

The stand out information in that article is you clearly need big centre backs who are good in the air to make the most of corners. If you don't, then direct crosses from corners are a waste of time, you don't need stats to work that one out.

How much would you say Macaulay Langstaff is worth and is he any good?

Re corners and stats. Without looking at the metrics I would take all stats with a very large pinch of salt. For instance, with the corners where Ward Prowse doesn't find a teammate how many end up with a good chance? Near post corners are often flicked on by the defenders.

My bugbear at Crawley this season is we use one of our central defenders to take them. Fine if we had a lot of big players but we don't. We also have other players good with dead ball deliveries.

If you have tactics so you can play with a literal goal hanger, he's exceptional. Anything else for his game, he's absolutely shite. Easily goes missing in the big games.

FAO Carver

I can confirm that this Pretend Pilot is not a Notts County fan, but unsurprisingly he has a lot to say about the club, manager, players?

Worth? Obviously subjective and determined by how much someone will pay but he's a good age at 26, I doubt many more promising in L1/L2 at that age and having such a good eye for goal. Contract extended till 2027 and loves our moron(?) Head coach all in all I would guess £900,000 plus add ons.

55 goals in 63 games says it all even at NL/L2 level and of those you can comfortably count on one hand the number from the penalty spot so nothing inflated. Plus he has fantastic workrate off the ball in and out of possession. Nothing like a goal hanger

He's only good against average and poor sides where he has an absolute field day. Against good sides with good organised defences he struggles when we aren't dominating possession as much as we can.

If you play beautiful effective tippy tappy football he's well worth a punt if you can afford the price tag.

Just taking little digs to the 2nd best team in the league below :) I think people refer it as banter.

Think you're talking seven figures at the absolute minimum now with his new contract and the way he's cracked on with life in League Two.

Those dodgy Yanks at Carlisle don't have any proper money anyway, let alone what it would cost to get Langstaff.

Probably right, he's likely a rare million pound lower league player but fans tend to significantly overvalue their teams players compared to the owners/club. Plus the plan is surely to buy, improve and sell players so £50k to £900k in such a short period of time would be incredible.

Saying that the owners aren't money obsessed , they even restrict away allocations after all, and the contract extension was very well timed to tie him down till 26/27 surely with the idea of cashing in soon

£900,000 plus sell on % and other incentivised payments would be tough to turn down. Obviously the player also needs to want to go to the club making the bid, not sure Carlisle would get his vote.

I really don't know much about your league with it being lower than the one we're in but I noticed his goal record which was impressive and we are wanting to put together a deadly strike force.

£900,000 is just a drop in the ocean for us now and I'm sure he would run all the way to us to play at a higher level because honestly who wants to play in L2?

Being a Carlisle fan and flicking through the pages of the history you should know League Two (recently) very very well. This season should be similar to some of the seasons you were at this level ;)

In terms of this Langstaff fella you really should take the time to look at his Wikipedia page and you will see why he is probably very happy to be playing at L2 level this season. His move to Notts has worked out rather well for this fine young gentleman.

Personally I have a strong feeling he is going to attract suitors from more inviting propositions in League One (perhaps established clubs at that level) than yourselves or maybe the odd Championship club taking more of a gamble.

He's red hot. Feed him and he'll score more than he misses. When he's right on it he's lethal.
Got to be worth £1 million plus appearance, goals and sell on fees.

 that's a classic. On that basis he's on a steep upward curve of progression to what he's coming out with these days.

I'm very pleased to see that he has real self confidence, if he doesn't believe in his approach then the players won't that's for sure. So far it's working wonders, clearly. He also is very (too) respectful of the opposition teams, players and managers (Ian Evatt the latest name checked) , to the media, it gets a bit much when everyone else is brilliant and do such a great job especially after we in. He hasn't shown the mardiness and bitterness to disrespectful levels that most managers display when they don't win. Plenty of examples of that type, but he has time to develop this. Right now Strange Luke is a little to nice, but never a moron as suggested earlier.

In terms of the big brutes (and our need for one or two) that also got raised at the surprisingly enlightening fans forum and again he answered it well. Big brutes who can play a bit (as he and the tactic requires) are few and far between at this level, and the ones that are in high demand and don't come cheap.

With a squad budget outside the Top 6, we probably can't compete for these sort of talented brute defenders.
Did Wootton leave because Williams didn't want to offer him a contract or had he already basically made his mind up that he was leaving Notts? Would be interesting if Williams would be utilising him as I think he is one of the few at this level who isn't just big and daft up front.

Made the old owners pay off millions in debt so they could get a football club for free. That famously spells oil rich owners at every club similar has happened.

I believe Wootton left before Williams arrived. Unsurprisingly he was offered a contract but the fans kinda knew he would be leaving after a couple of seasons very good service for the club. Not clinical in front of goal but offers so much in terms of hold up play, aerial threat and good work defensively at set pieces. I liked him but we signed better after he left.

I believe the wages offered by Stockport were very generous and with a move up in division as well it was a no brainer.

Happy he's done well there and not surprised always looked a L2 player whilst in NL with Notts.

He’d gone before LW came in. In the end it’s one of those that suited everyone because, as good a player as Wootts is, he isn’t a natural goalscorer and Macca just suits our game far more. He was always out on the wing or something doing great hold up work for us to be there tapping in the one million crosses we fizzed across the six yard box, but maybe Williams would’ve done the same thing to him.

If Carlisle need a BIG NAME striker for this new deadly strike force they are building they can have ex Premier League superstar Troy Deeney for a very reasonable fee....

No thank you, we're looking at Connor Wickham.

Probably ineligible player
Back in 2007, we fielded an ineligible player and the Ryman League tried to dock us 18 points. After appeal (and my MP raising the issue in parliament), it was reduced to 3 and a £12k fine which us fans fundraised for.
