I think it does depend on a lot of factors. For example if we went into the Wimbledon game needing a win and they had nothing to play for I'd probably fancy us, Tranmere I have a feeling will get themselves out of it and start to pick up.
I think apart from the points you already have, you just about have the hardest run in of all the teams down the bottom. It's going to take one hell of a turnaround in your fortunes to pull away. Having said that you're playing the team with the worst home record in the division on Friday, think that's already close to a must win game for you.

I'd say if Cheltenham don't win that they've seriously f*cked it. Even if they draw they're talking 10 more points from the last 6 games to get to 48, and they'd only have 1 more game against bottom half sides.

If Carlisle go they will deserve it, they have had 5 years now to sort out the defence......I'd say no club in the entire FL will have leaked as many goals as we have in the last 5 years, that we sit here still leaking goals for fun with terrible defender after terrible defender is frankly our own fault and unlike last time we cannot complain.

but I think Curle has 7 games to save his career.........we CANNOT go down and keep Curle it will finally need a fresh start with fresh owners and fresh manager, we made that enormous mistake in the previous 2 years and its taken us from L1 to possibly non-league.

I must admit I was surprised at just how awful we sounded on Saturday, I had hope after Morecambe but if we've a side that cannot motivate itself for crucial huge 6 pointer games at this important stage of the season then its extremely worrying.

Story of our season Dave. That's why I've been resigned to certain relegation for months now. This team is spineless, there's no fight, a serious lack of quality, a lack of balance, players playing out of position. When the going gets tough, these players shit their pants.

The worst group of players in the football league by far and if any team finishes below us then they should all give up and find a new profession.

Gary Johnson appointed at Cheltenham could be a master-stroke, one last big roll of the dice for them.

Fuck's sake
My thoughts exactly. Having said that I think any manager would struggle to squeeze the required 11 or 12 points out of their last 7 games when they have to play top 12 teams in 5 out of 7 of them.

I'm sure we'll hear tomorrow that Alex Ferguson has come out of retirement to manage Tranmere. Assisted by the ghost of Brian Clough.
I thought Tranmere were on the verge of sacking Adams a few weeks ago.. they're probably regretting not doing it now. If they'd escaped the bottom 2, as well as Cheltenham hiring Johnson, I wouldn't have given us much chance of beating the drop.

And there was me starting to think we might actually avoid finishing bottom at Cheltenham's expense. :ffs:

Good appointment, if anyone can grind some results out in a short space of time, he can.

Makes it interesting for that second relegation spot.

Well there's always the hope that York's excellent win at the weekend was just a false dawn, and Tranmere continue to sleepwalk to relegation.

Over the last couple of days I've been trying to convince myself that the conference isn't that bad.

We might win some games down there, crowds might go up because we're winning. We'll be a big fish in a tiny pond. The away terrace at the shay is decent.

Then reality hits and I realise just how shit it's going to be down there. :(

I honestly think you will finish a good 4/5 points off bottom two.

Hellogregory's extreme pessimism is starting to grind my gears. Stop being so miserable/attention seeking all the time. Cheer up...

Try being in this position and see how you like it. If you don't like reading negativity, a relegation thread is the last place you should be!

I've seen Bury relegated from L1 and almost go bust in the process and I was still more upbeat than you. You're just craving attention is all.

haha Carlisle fans are probably some of the most negative in football, its why we can go from 8,000 gates to 3,000 in a season because a slight dip in form is the end of the universe, although it is worrying times when I've become the more positive Carlisle fan on this forum!

Johnson is probably the type of manager we maybe needed at Carlisle, if we're never going to ever sort our horrendous defence we may aswell have said sod it and gone for a gung ho manager who doesn't give a sh*t about defending anyway..........maybe Keegan is still about Newcastle and can come in for afew weeks.

If I wanted to crave attention, I wouldn't come on a football forum.

Take a look at the goals conceaded by Cheltenham and Mansfield at the weekend if you want poor defending, no one down the bottom is exactly rock solid.

We've got the 2nd worst defence in the division if stats are anything to go by, only behind Accrington.

This season so far and the previous 2 seasons have seen us concede 207 goals, won't be too many worse than that.

We're joint 10th for goals scored this season, scoring more than Southend, Newport and Plymouth who occupy playoff positions.

We've conceded 3 or more goals on 12 separate occasions this season.

Yes, we are shocking at the back, and it needs to be massively improved.

And Curle, an English international defender, is the third manager in a row to not recognise that.

One month today we'll play our last game as a football league club (for over a year at least). I'm going to "try" and enjoy and appreciate this month because it may be a while before we're back.

Had a look at the table and its far too close for me to make any predictions. All I will say is that this time last year we had just been beaten 3-0 at Rochdale and were 22nd. I was 100% we'd be relegated.

Luckily we got rid of Barker and appointed Awford who won 5 and drew 2 of our last 7 games to keep us up. Before Awford I didn't know where our next goal was going to come from let alone point. It's far from over is what I'm trying to say. Cheltenham appointing Johnson could have the same effect we got with Awford.

I'm guessing you were underachieving at that stage though, and probably had a side worthy of better than 22nd place? I think Cheltenham have just about the worst team in the league, maybe behind Hartlepool, which is what'll make it so difficult for Johnson to do any better than the previous 3 managers.
