where does it leave Aspin though? Played well tonight, but never massively threatened. Newport were poor and that looked winnable.

It did... that said he’s got two kids up front... Pope and Miller would of probably won that today. I have a feeling Aspin is gone anyway... looks to me if Askey is in line that it’s all set up. Maybe hence why the striker is yet to sign?

Lets hope you are right, although Harris and Elliott both played well I thought. Hoping Askey is in before the weekend.

Aspin suggests he will probably be gone tomorrow... I hope Askey is in tomorrow and he’s got some players lined up! If we have pretty much appointed ready you would hope that he has been getting things ready.

Nice for there to be some actual football last night. Decent point for the Vale.

We signed Mitch Rose from Grimsby yesterday, would expect one or two more in before the deadline as well.

I think it's two from Morecambe, us and County.

I'm predicting after the games a week on Saturday (9th Feb) there will be a 6 point gap from 3rd bottom Morecambe to 4th bottom (Cheltemham/Cambridge).

You're a goner then, because Morecambe never go down

I would completely agree with you but...we were once perennial just-staying-uppers, until we went down (albeit in a season plagued by injuries, remarkably sinilar to this one).

its too earlier to narrow it down to 3 teams. Everyone up to us on 33pts can consider themselves at risk.

We're gone ! Failing to beat both the Imps and the Stags at home will spell Relegation for the 1862 boys

Even Cobblers and Crawley in danger still IMO. Northampton have less wins that us I think!

Crawley doubled by us... never a good sign!

Don't worry, we are still looking down as opposed to anywhere else in the table.
Our problem is that we keep drawing games that we probably should have got more out of and our next three games are Colchester (h), Tranmere (a) and Lincoln (a) which, at the end of, could confirm us as real relegation contenders!

In Macclesfield's favour is the fact that I don't think anyone who has come up has ever gone straight back down.

We lost at home to County and beat them away. Morecambe we lost to away playing most of the game with 10 men. The two losses were terrible games of football when we were a terrible football team. Morecambe at home isn't until April.

They haven't but it's getting closer - both ourselves and FGR were close in the last two seasons.

I think FGR's problem was the financial fair play rule, which didn't apply to them when they were in the Conference and it nearly bit them on the bum. I suspect they've been more circumspect this season. They could be the first village team to play at level 3.

Rushden and Diamonds surely the first? Although after that season it was the beginning of the end for them.

Rushden is hardly a village. It's the 5th biggest town in Northamptonshire with a population of around 30,000 and that's without Irthlingborough.

Morecambe fixtures are not favourable but they are the draw specialists and will probably stay up knowing them.

Rushden were based in Irthlingborough, so I think they count personally.

I don't like the idea of FGR being touted as some sort of miracle story - "oh look this tiny club is playing in the 3rd tier" - they've spent more over the last 10 years than the vast majority of clubs. The money they've spent they should be pushing for the 3rd tier.

I think your argument would be good, but the name Irthlingborough doesn't appear in their name. They were based in that village because it was convenient for Griggs to build the stadium there. FGR are merely an advertising machine for Vince's Ecotricity. They will eventually go the same way as R & D.

Whoa there this last page had proper derailed into talking about relegation stuff, let’s all get back on topic to the real issue here about Notts ground lease and what year they were formed.

It depends on which degree you wish to take it. FGR may be based in Nailsworth, but the common consensus is that they are a Stroud team - the club being called Stroud FC at one point and I'm sure that's where the majority of their support comes from - and that's a town that's bigger than Rushden.

I feel you are right, and when Vince does go (and he isn't going to be around forever) they will go the way of Rushden.
