Great result for us. First time I’ve been entertained at Vale Park for ages. Came out the ground feeling a lot more positive.

Today was more like a Micky Adams performance. Getting at the opposition from the off and generally being positive and willing to fight.

I’d forgot what it feels like to enjoy Port Vale. Bring on Yeovil on Tuesday where hopefully we don’t come crashing back down.

I thought #MaccAttack would eventually rise, but they're effectively 7 adrift now. Not sure what their remaining fixtures are like but I didn't think they be the first side ever to get relegated in their first season back.

Not sure whether it's the case, but it feels unusual for the bottom two to be the only two with such a bad defensive record, or defensive records that are out of keeping with those around them.

I had a look at all the sides that have been relegated from the League since automatic promotion and relegation between the League and Conference was introduced in 1986, to find out what sides have been relegated after finishing in the promotion positions the previous season.

I found three: Hereford (1996/97), Scarborough (1998/99) and Barnet (2000/01). No disrespect to those clubs, but should the worst come to the worst, Notts County being amongst that lot as part of a not so honourable elite would be yet another embarrassment to add to their history in a season that's already had its fair share of them.

I’m up for non-league now, just make this nightmare season end.
Genuinely hope you don't despite VM on here.
If you do it's got be Leicester in reverse. Red hot favourites, plenty of quality ( on paper ) signings .
Absolutely a humungous car crash. Not really had much of a manager bounce with either Kewell or Ardley.

Believe you me we are still bang in this. Today was excellent, 20 shots , that's probably more than in the last 12 games combined but I'm not counting any chickens yet with our last 3 aways all horrendous.

Don’t fancy us at Exeter in their current form with our away defensive record?

The home games which seemed to be massive asks look less stressful now,

FGR dropping like a stone
Crewe ran out of steam
Stevenage dropped into mid table

Sandwiched by Yeovil Tuesday and Macclesfield last game at home there’s plenty of points to be had there IF we don’t bottle it (which is no given) 2 wins out of that lot and the odd draw and we should be there I’d think. That would ask Macc and Notts to probably win 5 from 10 to catch us with our GD (Notts needing 5 and a draw)

I get you but you lot were up against MK, who IMO will make the top 3. They just had a little blip a few weeks back, just like all sides will have at some point or other.

There are no free hits in L2 and esp at this late stage of the season but a game against MK is the closest thing to it. I think your next two games are Exeter at home (and they are in poor form atm) and then away at Yeovil, so you're still in with a chance, esp if you can beat the latter side.
And what about Mansfield who have managed to throw 3 shit performances in against Vale, County and Yeovil yet play well against us. And yes I know that at the end of the season its only our fault we'll be down, we just need some sort of break.

We were terrible against you at your place earlier in the season as well from what I can remember.

Morecambe won't go down, clearly they have the potential to be WORLD CLASS based on the way they destroyed us yesterday.

All Notts fans have accepted the drop now. The next two months will be horrible but I think I would prefer this to being relegated at Swindon on the final day in the last minute or something.

From top to bottom, good return of 4 points for Cheltenham out of back to back home games. They are pretty much there and obviously won't go down. Time for them to come out of this table I think. Crawley are pretty much there after a come from behind win against Grimsby. Probably need another win to be sure, which I'd imagine they'll manage in the last 10 games.

Cambridge aren't far behind them, a comfy 3 points on Tuesday awaits them, so that should push them to being pretty much safe. Morecambe continue to somehow drag themselves to safety year after year, gotta give Bentley his due there once again.

The Vale get a desperately needed win and over Mansfield of all teams. Yeovil are the only team in the bottom 8 besides the bottom 2 to not get anything this weekend, still, no shame in losing to Lincoln. Massive game between these 2 on Tuesday. The loser is firmly in the shit should they lose I think, especially if one or both of the bottom 2 sneak out a win.

But in saying that, the situation looks increasingly bleak for both Macc and Notts County. Most of the teams above them had good results and they both lost, convincingly as well. Just doesn't look like it'll happen. But still, it's only 6-7 points to Yeovil. 1 win and the picture looks very different. Got to happen soon though. You suspect for both it's next weekends games against Yeovil and Morecambe. Win those and things get interesting. Fail to win and you don't see a way back for either.

I keep veering between total apathy and acceptance to seething anger at the ineptitude of Nolan for signing the dross, Kewell for being a characterless void when a big personality was needed, Ardley for being some sort of polite gentleman amateur of a manager rather than a grizzled street fighter who can rouse men, the bloated overpaid work shy "team" of forty odd slackers who've for the most part stolen a wage all season and Hardy our chairman, owner and clown Prince of Meadow Lane who has managed to leave us at our lowest ever ebb with the threat of administration and dropping into the amateur regional leagues hanging over us.

We aren't staying up, there isn't going to be a noble battle to the end it's just a miserable plod to a fully deserved relegation. Ardley can't wait for it to end, the players can't wait for it to end and for the first time in my life I can't wait for the season to end either.

Pretty much nail on the head there Optipez. The only thing I disagree with is the last sentence - there have been loads of years that I couldn't wait for the season to end!

That sums up Neal based on his time at our club, obvious qualities of leadership but maybe in your position you need a less thoughtful and quiet type of manager to get your players' arses into gear.

But it seems this time he's really showing who's boss and this could be the catalyst to kick-start your survival campaign:

After what I saw on Saturday, Notts are down. As I said on the match thread, the last time I saw a team that badly demoralised was when we were relegated in 2015. You can just sense when all the fight has gone and, once we'd gone ahead, that sense was over powering on Saturday.

Si, I've seen us go down quite a few times and each time's been the same. Turmoil in the boardroom, at least two managers and a temporary during the season and always too many players used with no difference in quality between the first team and the stiffs.
A slight improvement at some point but quickly dropping back to the baseline of crap that they can't shake off.

Time to close this thread, Notts and Macc are gone. Commiserations to both.
Maybe on Saturday. Notts and Macc playing Morecambe and Yeovil means neither can be ruled out until those games and out of the way, especially as Vale and Yeovil meet on Tuesday. Can see one of either Notts or Macc being closer to safety come 5pm on Saturday than they are at the moment. The gap could quite easily be down to three points with Yeovil's run in looking worse than anyone else's.

If Macclesfield lose or we win tomorrow, or both teams draw; we are safe from relegation :woo:

A lot depends on our game tomorrow. Win and we're almost safe. Yeovil could get dragged in, but it would take an amazing run from Macc or Notts to make that happen.

It seems most the other bottoms teams have been playing each other a lot recently with Morecambe especially, and Yeovil to an extent, managing to get enough points to drag themselves away whereas at the same time we've had a tough run and find ourselves adrift again. I think our game against Vale, Morecambe, Yeovil etc will now end up being too late in the season for us to make the most of even if we do win.

Adiós.

Tis true it’s almost impossible to be successful with off the pitch turmoil and as suggested most teams relegations it’s the key ingredient. Total shit housery in the boardroom and bizarrely Twitter is the main cause.

Just a shame the Bargain Stag Abroad isn’t around to enjoy it he’s waited about 50 years. Hope he’s ok

Please can you translate the word ‘Growna’ for me into English as I’ve never heard it before.
Or are you just describing your Mum?

Of course I can my fishy friend , it’s a typo ‘Growna’ = ‘Grow a’

That should clear it up for you. I estimate only 2% of people on this forum couldn’t work that out by themselves and needed assistance. You are that 2%. Born and bred from Grimsby by any chance?
