It's a cut throat business these days with little loyalty on either side. If we took him without signing him there's little extra cost for us and a better chance he'll gel, enjoy and sign. If he goes elsewhere they will have known it was possible.

Now that we finally have Henderson off our books, we could do with a striker like Craig Mackail-Smith.

Not sure where we'd stand on his wages though! We seem to be downsizing to our rightful level!

I'll be pretty amazed if CMS goes to Notts. He's already rejected clubs for being too far north according to an extremely reliable ITK type on our forum. According to Barry Fry, he wants to stay as close to his current home as possible, so we've got a huge geographic advantage in addition to the John Still factor. Notts would have to blow us out of the water financially to tempt him I reckon... maybe they could do that, I have no idea about their budget.

I still doubt that we'll get him either mind you.

Starting to look like our budget is pretty silly, but I don't really know what these continentals are going to command wage wise.

I think it's pretty obvious we've got money allocated purely to splash out on a striker. We've even had a bid turned down for Reuben Reid back in June, according to Ray Ray.

I just hope we don't spend it for the sake of it. Stead and Spencer are clearly good enough as central strikers.

You sure your chairman isn't just pulling your legs a teeny bit?

"We're 90% about to sign CMS"
- CMS goes to Portugal with Luton 24 hours later

"We're in talks with Craig Davies"
- Craig Davies signs for Wigan 12 hours later

"Well, we put a bid in for Reuben Reid..."

Sounds like he is just softening you up for when your big name striker signing is actually Lateef Elford-Alliyu...

Well, if you completely change everything he actually said then of course it sounds different.

He never said 'we're 90% about to sign CMS' - like, nothing remotely close to that. He's never even said we're after CMS explicitly and the 90% was when someone asked what our chances of getting a top striker were.

with Craig Davies, someone mentioned his, Robinson and McLean's names and he said 'we've considered all 3' and then said they were in talks with TD and CD but what does that mean? He could have spoken to Davies last week.

Everything he's said so far this summer has come true, we've got no real reason to doubt him.

He didn't say we were 'in talks' with Davies but that we'd spoken to him, which is a pretty big distinction. Didn't get any indication that we're still interested or indeed that he ever was.

See if we sign a random attacking midfielder from Europe tomorrow, eh? :D

We've got Gibraltar's wing wizard, Aber! Admittedly he was born in Oxford, but he still counts!

Ignore what Bish says

Montano grew up in London but was born in Colombia, so whilst he may not be as exciting as all the foreign imports Notts County are bringing in right now, I'd still count him!

I'm happy enough with our dodgy Colombian/ cockney . On a different issue wtf is going on with Dawson , I thought we'd be nailed on for signing him after his release but he's been playing friendlies for barrow . Bizarre

Filip Valencic and Graham Burke looking likely to be our next two signings.

Know nothing of Valencic, obviously, but we had Burke on loan at the end of last season and he was pretty good, scored the goal that nearly kept us up. Would be a really good signing.

Do these foreign players who are joining County all speak English as well? I can imagine there will be a natural clique in the dressing room anyway but could be a bigger problem if they don't speak English. I thought we were going continental last season but you are taking it to another level, ours turned out mostly shite but yours seem of a better pedigree to be fair.

Burke would be a good signing in current circumstances. He gives you a known quantity among our other wide options who are basically foreigners. I don't think he has enough pace to ever be anything special, but he's kinda 'good' at just about everything - he's intelligent, decent crosser, could probably score a few goals, isn't slow by any stretch.

I didn't rate him enough during his loan move to pretend to be thrilled about him joining, but it's hard to argue that he won't be an asset and should probably have a decent career as a L1/L2 winger.

John Still confirmed that Mark O'Brien is on trial with us and played 45 minutes in our friendly in Portugal last night.

Howells tweeting that today is probably a frustrated tweet that a deal has possibly fallen through with us. Another come get me plea me thinks.
Looks like it might still happen - provided no one comes in with a better offer. Still in the press today:

“Jake said he always knew there’d be a time to move on and he thinks this is the time.

“There’s been no fall out, he’s a great lad, we’ve had some enquiries, but nothing has come along yet.”

Still also admitted there had been some tentative interest in Drury from National League side Eastleigh, but it wasn’t something the midfielder had been keen to pursue.

After making nine new signings, Still has allowed Matt Robinson and Alex Lacey to go on trial with former club Dagenham,

He added: “We’re working hard both ends to move the lads out as we want to get the right squad for when we start.”

To be honest, I don't think DC was enamoured by Dawson like some of our supporters were. His attitude couldn't be questioned, but perhaps DC thinks he can get someone more consistent with a bit of experience, because we lack that in our current wide men. I think it's safe to say he won't be signing for us unless we miss out on several other wingers.

I liked him and wouldn't be against him joining, but I am more than happy to trust the manager on this one. With Ajala, Bodin and Myrie-Williams on trial we have a few other options, which is good to know.

I rated Burke in the few games I saw. I feel he could be a real asset at this level, looked comfortable enough at L1.

He looked like he could play as a CM, or as a wideman

You do know Lateef played in the Premier League this year, don't you? See his wiki page.

Yeah, it puts us to shame really. It's ignorant that schools in England don't give much importance to languages which is a serious skill to have.

BUT THAT'S FOR THE GENERAL CHAT THREAD.

WOOOOAHHHH FILIP VALENCIC
