Saw something from Alan Nixon about Agard travelling some distance to sign only for the deal to fall through because of the chairman on one of the Rovers forums, but no specifics.

Personally would rather we'd signed Agard than Maynard.

We are still looking for a free agent defensive signing.

Luke O’Neill is a free agent and would be a good signing for anybody in this division, we are overloaded at RB (although lack quality) so I imagine if we do sign anyone it be a experienced CB.

See Kieran Agard is still knocking about on a free. Can see him signing for a league 2 club soon.
Also Otis Khan.
What ever happened with Khan, we were linked with him when we were a top 6 team pushing for the championship when he was at Yeovil? Never seems to have done anything since of any note.

Feel embarrassed to say it but Theo Robinson wasn't bad for us. Scored 7 in 16. Decent at bringing others into play with the ball played to feet.

Maybe we were the anomaly or my memory deceives me.

No your memory is good. I liked him. We have a bit of a habit if having players that are great for us and crap everywhere else. See also Nicky Ajose.

Khan was reportedly one of our lower earners last year, some suggestion he'd accepted lower terms to put himself in the shop window. He did ok for us, Keith Hill persisted at playing him right-back where he got caught out a few times. Would have expected us to offer him a new deal, but if we did he thought could find something better.

Kahn is very easy on the eye and retains possession well, but his number of assists and goals last season was surprisingly low considering how busy he is. I think his lack of end product is the reason for the limited interest in him.

Tbf Robinson will most likely be shit but statistically is still likely to score more than George Lloyd, he scored 2 in 32 last season which is terrible in a title winning team. I’ve know doubt the Cheltenham fans were a bit more complimentary though as with all football fans when they’re ‘one of their own are’. Let’s be honest neither of us signed a player expected to be starting.

Lloyd almost scored against us last season but it went down as an own goal in the end. Tbh I thought that he looked like a weak link in an otherwise-excellent L2 team. No discernible attributes physically, mentally or technically. Albeit only on the strength of that one game, I would hesitate to recommend him to a top half NLS side.

i saw a comment about lloyd having a great work ethic and i think thats why we've signed him. all being well injury wise he will be coming on for the last 10-15 minutes here and there where we just need someone tearing round hounding defenders.

it's why i thought we signed garrity but he's had a great few games for us, to the point where it is difficult to see how he gets dropped again for conlon.

also, just to be serious on theo for a moment - he's so bad because he's actually got some ability - i think that's the problem. we've had loads of strikers that are genuinely a lot worse than him, but that's why theo is such a disappointment, i guess he just has a slightly higher bar and still manages to fall way beneath it. same when we signed martin patterson although he had the stoke link which doesn't help if you are lazy and shit.

Lloyd joins us with almost no expectations. and to be fair, as has been said, neither he nor theo are expected to play at all really if everyone is fully fit.

Turns out Agard has rocked up at our training ground this morning. Set to sign on a short term deal to prove his fitness.

I honestly think he'll be getting more than 10-15 mins here and there. We apparently had 4 other League 2 clubs asking about him and I can only imagine he was allowed to go to Vale if we got some assurances about game time.

fair play if it turns out that way, happy to be proven wrong, it's a low bar expectation wise either way. he'll do well if he's beating Jamie Proctor and James Wilson to game time and there's always Rodney who can play up front and talk of Amoo being used centrally now.

There's no such thing as assurances about game time though. I'm sure most clubs if they want to loan a player, will tell the parent club that they expect him to get a lot of game-time but as soon as the deal is signed all that talk goes straight out the window.

Hartlepool fans, what is Josh Hawkes like? We have just signed him on loan for the season.

Surprised no one has snapped Otis Khan up. I thought he put in some great performances for us at right back last season, most notably against Barnsley in the FAcup and Sunderland in the PapaJohns final.

He's a talented player with the inconsistencies that you often see with youth. He never quite established a fixed position in our side. He was an "attacker", but I wouldn't necessarily have pigeon-holed him as a striker, or an attacking mid, or a No 10, or a winger. I rated him highly, and wasn't surprised when he got a better offer than us. Plenty of Sunderland fans seem to rate him too, which suggests that he's managed to kick on nicely considering almost his entire career with us was at NL level. I would have been happy to hear that we'd signed him on loan, as I would imagine he's a better player now than he was when he left.

The players you are signing I'm surprised you didn't keep Nugent on

A lad who has talent, but in his time with us didn,t full fill it.
The defensive side of his game was not NL standard, never mind EFL2.

He did score some cracking goals but few and far between.
Would imagine he would be on the bench for yous.

Don’t think he’s found a club yet if you’re interested?

I think we all hoped when Nugent had regained match fitness he’d do a decent job for us, but it never really happened.

Our forwards before this week were all relative youngsters bar Dieseruvwe, who was signed as a squad player, but failure to get our main striker target thrust him into first team action, highlighting his limitations. I have reservations about Maynard based on what he was like last season, but he’s still the best striker at our club now. A fit Agard will probably offer more, if we can get him match-fit.

He was ok for us as well albeit in the NL. A decent back to goal striker in the short time he was with us.

Think we’ll need to look at a few free agents, particularly if the goals don’t start to come.

Too young for the first team. Be a good signing for the U18s.

In all seriousness seems to be a good signing that. We’ve got a good little squad now with the 5 players added and possibly Agard. Time for the performances on the pitch to improve!

Not to mention the money we got from Leeds for McCarron and Galloway... with McCarron close to appearing in the Premier League you imagine there may be add-ons for that... then there's the sell-on fee for Sam Cosgrove, all in all we must have raked in over a million in transfer fees in the last two years so why have we still got a 'bottom six' budget?
Chris Beech in a press statement just reminded me Swindon town paid actual money for Hallam Hope too.

Nice one Swindon!

Looks like to me like he's come on a lot at Sunlun. Think he'll do well for Tranmere.

DC has confirmed we are set to make another free agent signing, reading between the lines I expect it to be Solanke from West Brom who’s been training with us since early pre season.

Defensive midfielder.

I'd have loved Theo back here too. It was certainly very close at one point so not sure what happened with that one, but we still need a striker from somewhere.
