We've sold Ollie Crankshaw to Stockport.

We had 2 fit wingers including him with 5 forwards out injured. Now we're down to the useless Alex Gilliead and nobody else.

We are an absolute joke.
You're playing Gilliead on the wing?

He was by far at his best last year in a free role in midfield, would glide forward with the ball it's just a shame his end product was poor.

He wasn't good here when playing RM, struggles to beat a man down the wing.

Yeh, RM in a 4-2-3-1 and whilst a good dribbler his end product is woeful. Only place he really fits as he isn't dislodging Cooke in the 10 role.

I think that's being generous to Rupp. The Januarys under Bowyer and Hopkin were a disgrace. Players like Guthrie, DMH, Clarke, Anderson etc were signed for example.

You may be right, and I hope you are, but personally the idea of us 'doing a Bolton' is fanciful without further investment.

Hmm, not entirely correct.

The year we were relegated, Rupp invested heavily in Jack Payne. We were paying around £4-£5k per week up to January. When he was set to return to Hudders, everyone panicked. He was on £13k per week, and it was reported that we started to cover the vast majority of his remaining salary. We also signed Jacob Butterfield on loan, of whom was on £15k per week at Derby. Paid fees for Paudie O’Connor from Leeds, too.

The season after, we paid fees for DMH, Guthrie and Lee Novak. Latter was on very good wages for what was a L2, injury-prone journeyman. We also signed Glenn Middleton on-loan from Rangers. Another player who couldn’t justify his mega high wages.

What we learn here is, recruitment is most definitely questionable, but once again, Rupp always backs the club. Some fans are quick to question his commitment to the club, and yet he throws money at it every season - with nothing in return. If only we had Mark Lawn in charge, eh. I wonder if he’d request interest to paid on any future club loans as per before - and somehow we were somehow financially better off under the previous custodians.

I forgot to mention ex Cobbler, ex Bradford, ex Swindon and a few others player Mark Marshall has signed for Crawley on a rolling monthly contract.

I presume we don't have enough money in the budget to sign him properly as he certainly looks good enough for league 2. Put a couple of good crosses in v Bradford on Saturday after coming on around the 70 minute mark.

He was a good player with us, quality at this level.

Yep he was very impressive at Vale, probably not got the same pace any more but as an option off the bench at least he is a really good addition for Crawley I reckon.

I don't understand. How are Stockport signing players outside of the transfer window?

….a Marshall goal compilation. He won POTY that year, too. Not sure whether he still has it, after all, this was 4/5 years ago now.

Think the transfer window doesn’t operate in the NL for English teams?
Yeah, could hand Stockport a real advantage over Wrexham, who are affected by the window. Assuming those two big-spenders end up in a title race, but neither have had a rip-roaring start to the season exactly

Wrexham have had a ridiculously tough start to the season to be fair to them.

Have you learnt nothing from Man city, when you're mega-rich you can bully the authorities into doing what you want

Correct, the last time there was a transfer window in the NL was 2015/16.

He doesn’t really, has lost his pace and was injury prone

Dion-Curtis Henry signs in time to sit on the bench today. A month to month contract as our injuries keep occurring.

Keeper, 24yrs was at Palarse. Nowt known by me. Wiki says he was at Billericay last.

Last cd I brought was by Dion. Shoo Bop is a great track. Even if you don't like that style it is still worth a listen.

Unconfirmed by the club but one of our fans says former FGR keeper Adam Smith is on trial with us following an injury to regular keeper Magnus Norman.

Spent most of pre-season with us and we then signed Jonathan Mitchell instead.

Currently getting caned by Preston reserves. Last I looked they'd put five past him.
Preston named a strong side it seems, with the likes of Barkhuizen and Potts starting and the local Preston paper seems to be fairly complementary towards Smith, saying he made a sequence of saves before also stopping a penalty.

Smith is a decent enough keeper, but was a bit of a bellend by all accounts.

Any Walsall fans on here?

Dan Scarr has been immense for us as 1 of 3 centre backs thus far. Seem to remember reviews from Walsall fans at the time as being glad he left and certainly shocked he'd got a L1 deal.

Funny how it works out at some clubs and not at others.

He looked well dodgy in the pre season friendly against us, got bullied by a 16 year old rookie

Yeah I think him playing in the centre of a back 3 for you is the difference, it is protecting him and making him focus on the things he is good at. He was constantly making mistakes in the 3 seasons here and couldn't pass wind - but he was always good at winning headers, just not anything else really.
