The point being none of those really good sides were good enough to blow this league away. They all did well but they were the best to come up. County will do well but without serious investment again I don't think they are promotion candidates (I said the same about Sutton last year so what do I know!).
Yeah, I'm not arguing against clubs coming up and blowing the division away but there are several examples of clubs coming up and being very comfortable, having a season of finding their feet and then having a proper go at it the following season. Then there's the majority consolidating/stagnating in midtable with a few exceptions that find themselves back in trouble and facing relegation. One thing you have to consider about Stockport is that they haven't lost anyone they didn't want to in this window as far as I'm aware whereas that more often is the case for sides promoted into this division. I think they'll be up there in the top 10 but I agree that they aren't red hot favourites like the bookies odds suggest.
Ragged it. Drew nearly as many games as we won. Most wins by the odd goal because Josh Koroma did something incredible out of nowhere. Had some good players (Jobi McAnuff, Macaulay Bonne, Marvin Ekpiteta, James Brophy) but didn’t play much football.
Had no idea Ekpiteta played for you. I was living in a house with some Blackpool fan mates throughout lockdown. Paying a tenner a pop on iFollow to watch us get relegated in my bedroom on my own during the COVID season while they were in the living room splitting their iFollow three ways watching their team get promoted. Screams of anguish and despair a common fixture from my bedroom as they come in one by one to check on me and almost wincing guiltily to tell me Jerry Yates has just scored another absolute banger. But Big Marv was one of my favourites in that team when I did watch them. Shame he's been cancelled now the massive homophobe.

Nobody ever mentions Harrogate, mainly because nobody cares, but their recruitment this summer looks like they're scaling back a bit - mainly L2 cast-offs and Huddersfield loanees. They were pretty terrible for the second half of last season too.

Probably not relegation material, but may be set for a season of struggle.

their 1 potentially very good signing is the central defender Ferguson they got from Altrincham.

Yeah, we picked him up from East Thurrock. Outstanding centre back - could probably play Premier League if someone takes a chance on him. Absolute prick of a bloke, mind. Proper yardie dickhead.

No idea. He’s definitely surplus to requirements, though, so wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him on the move to another League Two club.

Bennett did well for us, though. That’s the point I’m trying to make. Broadbent has been released by Eastleigh, Meyanese was never better than adequate.

Tom Nichols was also useless for you but done well since leaving.

See the pattern here. Tbh, I’d expect most L2 CBs to have a mistake or 2 in them, hence why they’re playing there. Depends on how teams set up

Tom Broadbent has just signed for South Shields F.C who play 1 league below conference north. That's quite a drop for him since leaving us after our league one relegation season!

The people who tell me this stuff don’t make it up, usually plenty of truth in it.

I wouldn’t be suprised if it’s already happened tbh and not announced.

As mentioned, he’s now surplus to requirements as he doesn’t really fit the way Wellens wants to play and right back isn’t his best position and we now 3 who can play/cover there.

Our first friendly is tomorrow at 7pm so if it’s not announced by then, we will likely know more tomorrow if he plays or not.

If Khan does go to Grimsby then I think that's a fantastic signing for them coming back up into the league.
Thought he did a very good job for us under less than ideal circumstances, played an absolute blinder away at Walsall towards the back end of last season.
But as Term & e10 have said, possibly surplus to requirements, though if I'm being honest I think there's several worse players in our squad than Khan, I think he'd be a very useful player to have around, especially as the season wears on and injuries take their toll.

Khan played 8 games on loan for us (from Sheff United) back in November/December 2015 - he played 8 times scoring 4 and looked a real prospect then. One of the goals he got was scored direct from a corner at home against Grimsby

We have signed Jon Nolan from Bristol Rovers on a 1 year deal. Looks to have suffered with injuries lately but from what i can remember, he was a good player a couple of years ago.

When it says he was signed from us . He did'nt actually play one full match. But I believe he was good at Shrewsbury.

We've gone from 0 keepers to 2 keepers in 48 hours - 23 year old ex-Newcastle Jake Turner joins the club. Has had loan spells at Morecambe and Colchester United in the past few years

There's no way a club with ambition would fail to keep any of the four, plus Oates last year.

There's just no long term planning, penny pinching and shit or bust tactics like sacking Lee, getting Hartley and his Scots signings. If they don't work out it's going to be a painful season. I can see why we're tipped to struggle because as it stands it looks that way.

A month to go before the season, let's see who we get but if recruitment ends up like last season, no doubt we're officially in the basket case category.
Worryingly this sounds very similar to us under Fenty’s reign, happy to just plod along penny pinching before the inevitable relegation battles followed by the inevitable relegation.

Great signing that IMO I was hoping Hurst might have tried getting him back here.

The thing with Bennett is that he starts off well with clubs then nosedives. We signed him in Jan and he was great for the rest of the season, then awful from the following season. Portsmouth fans said similar things.
Nichols had to drop down a league as he flopped here in L1
When we got Nichols he said he had a bad time at the Gas. Said he seemed to play mostly on the left of a three and play one game miss two-that sort off stuff.

He was excellent for us (lower division as you said) first season but had the same problems last season, due to injury woes at Crawley, as he had with you and his game suffered as a result.

My personal view is he would do well for a mid/lower league 1 club if played in his preferred position but he will never be a consistent 20 goal a season man.

Neil Byrne has been pictured in a Tranmere shirt at the training ground. Looks like a picture ready for a twitter announcement. All but official by the looks.
