So our former chairman was telling fans at the friendly last night that we've got a massive signing coming from the Premier League and he's only coming because of Hughes.

Obviously speculation is rife with some people saying Shane Long but I imagine wires have been crossed somewhere and it's a young loanee.

Noises coming out the club a few weeks ago were that we’d ended our interest and he was heading your way.

Guessing he’s lowered his demands to enable him to stay local.
I'd have thought Stockport these days can offer more financially than ourselves.
The only pulling power we have really is that Barton signed him before for Fleetwood and knows him well, everything else would be in your advantage i'd imagine.

Think you lot are gonna have to go on the Going For It™ list. Currently we have:

Stockport
Bradford
Mansfield
Northampton
Barrow (season long running joke deal)

can you not wait until we’ve signed more than two players?

Keith Hill deployed him as a right wing-back for Rovers. It wasn't a total disaster. Khan never really took control of the midfield when played there while with us. Unsure what his best position actually is.
Kahn is a 'nice' technical player but just does not offer enough in the final third, in terms of assists and goals. His statistics were very poor in that regard when he was with us.

I imagine Shane Long to Bradford isn’t a crazy idea at all. He’s 34 now and may fancy being part of a huge club like Bradford, particularly if he likes playing for Hughes. It’d be a real coup of a signing though.

Nope, Mansfield are lifetime members of the Going For It™ list, you know how it works.

Even under Clough! The bloke would take a Burton reject over a expensive player any day

We're still trying to bring 3 players in.

Told we've been trying to sign James Norwood but his wage demands are the reason he still finds himself with no club.

We've also spoken to Jack Payne from Swindon, but I am convinced he will play higher and it will be for Charlton.

we've apparently got a couple of loanees that we've not announced yet - the only thing we know so far is that one is from Sheff United who we often get players from.

Mansfield were waiting for two loanees from the same premier league club to be ‘ratified’ on monday, a attacker and a defender, then we need another GK (linked to Pym) and one more attacker (linked to Nichols)

Plus we generally sign one more than what we say which could be anywhere on the pitch maybe down the left or Ryan Stirk if we can agree terms, plus Danny Johnson is still on the books.

We've made him an 'incredible' offer apparently according to our technical director in today's local rag.

That can be read in a number of ways but in my eyes I reckon he's off and those quotes are for positive PR. Hope I'm wrong as he's a superb player for us.

Hopefully it's Jebbison, who is away with England U-19s at the moment.

7 goals in 20 for Burton in league 1 last season, I doubt a spell in league 2 is next on the agenda for his career. Surely he'll go back into league 1 at least again?

I didn't realise he'd been out on loan before - just seen him scoring for England. Yeah, it's more likely to be one of the kids that were in the conference last year - still nothing wrong with being hopeful.

And without hope you have nothing.

Shane Long, Joe Allen, and Fabian Delph. Officially entered silly season. Maybe when he said 'massive' signing he meant someone like that 6'9 lad? Could be talking nonsense of course, which wouldn't be surprising given the source.

We could and talked to him but our local journo briefed a few weeks back that in the end we decided against signing him as we got CLE and Wright combined for the same wage and we went for depth in an already strong area.

It looks like his agent tried his luck with perhaps both of us and had now come back with his tail between his legs.

We’ve gone for the unusual approach of naming all our trialists today so here you go: Leon Davies (Cambridge/Southend - DF), Bruno Andrade(Lincoln, Salford, Stevenage - FW), Jordan Green (Dulwich Hamlet - FW), Lewis Walker (FW spent the last couple of seasons in Italy) and Henry Wise (Watford - MF)

Andrade was excellent in the National League about 5 years ago, dunno how he's got on since.

Just said in the L1 forum, but Andrade lost his way when he went to Salford for the money when we sold him rather than bettering himself. Needs a manager to give him a good shake and get him back on track, he's only 28 I think.

Benni Smales-Braithwaite from Southampton was our triallist who scored a good goal today. Also had a kid from an American uni team called Max Riley upfront, and a right back who looked young and was called Jamie...

The Southampton lad seems like he could be a prospect.

We’re due to sign a defender before our pre season training camp so will be a key test of our ‘going for it’ credentials

Odimayo is signing for Cobblers, I think. I liked him a lot. Replacement for Horsfall I presume. Won’t score many goals, though.

What’s he like? Been told he’s signed to ‘provide competition’ so sounds a bit of a back up

As I said, most fans liked him. But for some reason he wasn’t played regularly. Can’t remember him ever having a horrendous game. Bit strange really. You’ll like him I’m sure.

We had Mark Howard, most recently Carlisle keeper and Kyle Jamieson ex Oldham as triallists today. Howard’s already been commented on here fairly favourably, although was expecting we’d be looking at a younger keeper to be coached up by Joe Murphy.
