No idea what is happening with Luke McCormick. No news coming out of Wimbledon. My guess is that Bristol Rovers have made an offer and it's been rejected . If he doesn't want to be here then I'd rather he went. He's not irreplaceable. However the deals got to be right for Wimbledon. I'm guessing that Wimbledon probably value him at around 500 grand.

Bizarre transfer, what we thinking Grimsby fans more likely back at L2 before we know it or a success? Gut feeling.
For me I think he's got some lifestyle choices to work on. Apparently he drinks cans of cokeand plays FIFA until late every night and it's widely know that he loves a beer. The fact that he managed to carry on doing that and be one of the best players in the Conference though tells you what you need to know about his ability. I can't stress how good he is when he's on it. Without a doubt my favourite Town player probably since being a kid in the 90s. He just absolutely fucking loves it. Bags and bags of personality that shines through in the way he plays. He can twist and turn on a six pence and find space out of nowhere. Rocket of a shot, can thread a ball, can take players on, can win win the ball, absolutely grafts his arse off, is a complete shithouse, goes sick when he scores and is constantly trying to pump the crowd up.

Makes you wonder how much McKirdy would go for.

24 goals in L2, final year of his contract and only 18 months older.

My guess - £200,000 + Tyrese Simpson and he’s off.

Mckirdy I imagine is in a different world talent wise but obviously him being the massive bellend he is reduces his value.

You think Ipswich will give us £200,000 + Simpson for Mckirdy? Or we give them £200,000 + Mckirdy and get Simpson?

It’s slightly odd but think it works for all the parties involved.

Grimsby get a guaranteed year from him but are still getting some money which they wouldn’t have otherwise, we get a player we rate and who we think will develop over the next 12 months for perhaps a lower price point than we would have by giving up the year and jump to the head of a queue we would likely not have been near the top of if we waited until January or next summer.

He also gets to continue to develop into a championship player which he probably isn’t quite yet, without having to sit around on our bench or in our reserves.

Might not work out but logically it works for everyone.

Nope.
I think that’s our lot until we get some under 23 kid from Boro.
Gob shyte Hobin has disappeared without trace after telling fans we’re getting a marquee signing, but nothing has happened.
Our signings have made a mockery of Raj’s very good budget claims & I’m glad I didn’t get a season ticket this year.
I wonder how much money was wasted on the hotel etc for an over night stay to Walsall, bloody ridiculous.
Maybe the marque signing was going to be Luke James - but he read this forum so chose York instead......

Think that is an amazing deal for us, we get to keep him and gain 250k for a player out of contract soon because if he really wanted to stay beyond this season he would have signed the contract extension he was offered. The only way we lose out is if he has a storming 6 months and we could have got a lot more in Jan, and even then we would lose his services halfway through the season.

Its only a great deal for Luton if he has another good season and proves it at this level. If he flops they threw away 250k to us.

Yep definitely the risk is on our side now, but we kind of have to take some of these risks to be able to compete at the level we are at. Basically for players his age we have to get them in before they are ready, if we wait we are priced out.

I think it works all around but we have definitely bought some risk off Grimsby hands

Good deal for the Cods, we had a similar situation when Sean Raggett had a year left on his deal and Norwich wanted to sign him albeit he was loaned back to us until January rather than the full season.

Curious how we haven’t filled our number 9 shirt yet. I assume we’ve had some deals for “marquee” strikers fall through or still ongoing.

Yeah, although I don't think he was ever offered an extension? They said they opened discussions but nothing official ever came out of that. With Hurst saying we need to be realistic about him, I think we can read between the lines and deduce McAtee said he would be looking to move on in the summer.

Stockwood has said in the interview today an improved deal was offered in the summer and he had interest from championship clubs and only one year left so didn't want to sign.

Now we've just technically got 250k +addons for an out of contract player, and got that money a year early.

Edit:
He wouldn't reveal fee but he said its not the 500k reported, but it does include an up front fee, performance related addons and a double digit % sell on fee.

If he isn’t willing to sign a extension now it’s the correct decision for Grimsby.

I'd imagine if McAtee absolutely rips League 2 up Luton will want to recall him in January either for their squad or for a half season loan to League 1. A january recall options seems to be the case for most season long loans in the football league. But either way its still win win for Grimsby.

best thing Grimsby can do if he does rip up L2 this season is announce he's injured on 31st December and he'll be out for about 2 months... so he doesn't get recalled - then miraculously he's fit for the 1st game in February....
(will work even better if all Grimsby's games in January fall foul of the weather.)

Oh for sure it does, we were more open than the ozone layer. Look at the second goal there's no way a headed clearance from their own box should cut through the whole team like that.

It wasn't just the Scots mind, Featherstone was poor, Ferguson, Cooke, everyone really. Only Niang and Umerah showed up for the ball and put a shift in.
Only Umerah came out of Saturday with any credit at all for me.

One up front with wingers doesn't work.
We looked good last season with 5-3-2,hopefully we revert to that soon.

Ah nice, not had chance to listen to that. They must have offered him terms after the retained list then as it wasn't mentioned then.

We might be able to pull the shoulder op line we did in the build up to the playoff final.

It will depend if a Jan transfer window recall has been included in the loan and if it has, I imagine if he got "injured" during that time, Luton would just recall him anyway.

Pretty much standard practice to put in a January recall clause - It may even be a requirement but I’m not so sure.

Tad worried about Peterborough new young goalies not being up to much and then wanting Pym back!

Its not a requirement for a standard loan, but it has to be put in at the time of the loan, or can be added after 28 days if both clubs agree and can only be recalled during the winter transfer window. I'd be surprised if it wasn't included, but then I'm surprised Luton have even agreed to loan him back in the first place so you never know.

Nowhere near up to it. Very poor player. Literally can't think of a single thing he's good at. We got money for him as well, amazed. Hearing we've now gazumped Luton for that manc Grimsby striker.

Oi,Chipmunk, you know more than I do.
Anyway,we got money for him,Scunny must be really thick.
We got Ben Whitfield off Stockport for an undisclosed fee - which was free plus a sell on clause... I can Imagine the fee being similar - the Scunny chairman is even tighter than Raj....

Best news ever this signing.

Not because of the player but it must mean a new chairman is on the way as there is no way Peter Swann is spending money on a player.

He may be absolute shite but he's not Joe Nuttall and that makes me happy.

We paid for a player? Wtf.

Least we're spending some of the McAtee money.

I can’t believe this is happening to Barrow.
