while Courtney Meppen-Walter is on trial at another club.

Leacock could be a decent signing, thought we were crying out for another experienced centre-back, especially after today's showing. With Atkinson sidelined and Troy not starting, Raynes was our only proper centre-back. I feel that to play 3-5-2 you still need your back three to be proper centre backs. You can't just say, well there's three of them so we can get away with putting a left back and a right back in there.

Big news before our game at Yeovil today was that DC has told Steve Mildenhall we are looking for a new number one. He has been given this weekend to decide whether he wants to stay and fight for his place or move elsewhere for regular football.

A good move in my opinion. Mildy is well past his best and we need to bring in someone better if we possible can. It's sad, because he's a thoroughly nice guy and has been a good servant to the club, but he is no longer the solid goalkeeper we signed a couple of years ago.

We've got Dean Leacock on trial. I know Curle had him at Notts County, not sure what he's like these days, but no harm in looking I guess.

He was brilliant for us for a while then went completely off the rails and by the end was a complete liability. Not sure he was great at Crawley, either.

Liability at Orient as well. Slade called him a 'Rolls Royce', but he was more like a Yugo. A very slow, lackadaisical, pony Yugo.

Harry Lee has gone on loan to Welling for a month. Surprised he didn't head there (or lower) on a permanent deal in the summer.

First season Leacock was very good, second season Leacock was very bad. He's clearly a player that doesn't have much hunger for the game either

Not too arsed about Leacock, he hasn't even had a pre-season at a club so he'll probably be very out of shape and would likely just be one of those players who spends the whole year getting up to speed only to be released. Not sure why we don't just play Troy instead but oh well.

That's surprising.
Didn't really think a Championship team would be after him, maybe a League 1 side. He's definitely got some ability, but he's sometimes a liability in defence.

It was when Leacock got injured last season that our defence improved. We brought in Richard Wood from Rov'rum on loan and the difference was as plain as Steve Evans' gut.

Current rumour on Exeweb is that we're signing Kabongo Tshimanga on loan from MK Dons. He's scored about 8 thousand goals for their under 18s but is currently on loan at Corby Town....

I don't care if he's shite, what a name.

Seems Peterborough want any deal with Jack Payne to involve Dean Cox. That's dead then. Finally. RIP a month long transfer saga. Finally.

Payne plus cash, I assume. They can't seriously be expecting it the other way round just because they paid about 500k over the odds for Payne..?

I'd imagine if push came to shove, they'd have Payne + cash for Cox. Cox's value is much higher than Payne's to both Orient and Peterborough.

Thing that annoys me though is that I figure we spent £660,000 on Dossena's wages last season. That would probably cover a transfer fee and a seasons wages. He'd probably be a fantastic addition for this level and I'd imagine he'd be an improvement on Moore (based on seeing Moore twice for Wimbledon, couple of times in pre season and a video of the Barnet game). I'd also be surprised if there was a better centre midfielder available until next close season.

I've just talked myself into thinking we're going to poke this transfer again a few days before the window shuts.

Moore's a good lad; very much a League Two chugger, but I like him. Not difficult to envisage that Payne would be a significant upgrade. Problem is that Posh paid 700 large for him when he's probably actually worth less than a third of that, and they want a goodly portion of it back. Sensible to try an recoup the losses I suppose, but they're in cloud cuckoo land if they think anyone is going to be as dumb as they were.

The thing with Jack is that when we sold him to Posh for £700k or so, I genuinely thought they had got a decent deal.
He was a very good player at a good age.
Indeed, initially he was doing very well for them and was made club captain.
It is just that Posh have since fallen out with him, dropped him from the team and stripped him of the captaincy.
Now, after that, they are looking to recoup their investment. Ain't going to happen.
There is a very good player in there though and he could well be worth the sort of money that Peterborough paid for him again in near future.
Needs to get himself sorted with a club soon though.

Bristol City have offered Brentford
8/9 million for former Luton player Andre Gray. Luton will receive 20% of the fee.

We signed Ayo Obileye on loan from Charlton until January. This probably means Jodi Jones is going in the opposite direction but we'll see.

Did well for us last year so hopefully it'll sure up a leaky defence.

Jesus is he fuck worth 9M. The championship teams have been stupidly daft this summer. Luton could do some damage with that kind of money in this league if they spend it right.

Luton should invest the money in a cloning machine in order to achieve every Luton fan's dream of having 11 Mackail Smiths. Then their team could be:

Mackail Smith
Mackail Smith Mackail Smith Mackail Smith Mackail Smith Mackail Smith
Mackail Smith Mackail Smith Mackail Smith
Mackail Smith Mackail Smith

Wouldn't have thought we'd see much of it go into the playing budget to be honest. It will probably be used to either give the investors a year off or maybe even something towards the new ground.

We've already increased our playing budget for this season and there's not really any room for new players at the moment. Maybe a signing or two in January depending on how things are going but I certainly wouldn't expect to see us start chucking big fees around after Gray leaves.

We are apparently going to sign Olly Lee at some point before the end of the window per Still tonight.

I would say we don't need him but Smith and Doyle have been abject so far, Pelly still an enigma and McGeehan just meh so maybe we do. Hasn't seemed to have made too much impact in recent loan spells.

We really need some players to leave though.

Is that actually happening then? I thought it was just Outlaws bullshit, didn't hear his interview.

The midfielders have been awful but we can barely keep everyone happy as it is, seems crazy to be making more signings. Guttridge can't even make the bench (even though with only one functioning ankle he is still a better player than Paddy McCourt based on the first three games).

Maybe Lee will do something novel and actually try and pass the ball to a teammate though, that'd be nice to see.

Paddy McCourt was the only player on the pitch who looked like he wanted to be there last night barring Cuthbert. Some of what he tried didn't come off, correct, but if it did every time he wouldn't be in League Two. There was NIL movement wide or up top which left him having to try something spectacular to create a chance.

Barnet have signed Aaron Mclean on a short term deal. Interesting one that, not sure if he still has it or not.

Exactly what we are all thinking.

Doesn't appear to have pulled up any trees in the past four years, but I suppose we'll see.

I think it is just a short-term deal to have an extra striker whilst Lisbie gets back to fitness.

Lisbie missed most of last season and at his age I'm not convinced he will be able to get over all his little injuries and contribute this season. Batt just looks like a poor signing at the moment and I suspect McLean is Allen taking another punt.
